Winnie woke me up just after 2 am with a constant series of sharp little barks
I found her disorientated and distressed in a corner of the living room with the other dogs and Albert milling around in stressful circles around her
I think she's had a small stroke in her sleep
I calmed them all down, checked her neurology and cleaned up a large pee stain
And a few minutes later she shook her massive head as if waking from a long sleep and climbed onto the couch with an over serious Mary in tow and fell into a long calm sleep
It's 3 .22 am now and I'm just about to go to bed.
She's home and she's now comfortable so I'll leave her until dawn
She's an old gal, so lets be serious here
Then we will see what we will see.
These dogs ..they.break my heart
Sending special thoughts and good wishes to Winnie.
ReplyDeletemy childhood dog had a stroke at nine and lived to fifteen so here's hoping your heart doesn't need to break just yet

ReplyDeleteI hope she's OK. As Joared said above; maybe it was just a nightmare. I presume dogs have such things.
ReplyDeleteOh poor darling Winnie! I just wish I could think of something more intelligent to say than that.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could be there to give you both a hug, but Australia is a bit far away, so you'll have to settle for being in my thoughts.
When they're not breaking our hearts, they're filling them full of love. I hope Winnie's ok - and you x
ReplyDeleteSweet Winnie is so gorgeous, I hope she will be fine.

ReplyDeleteI have cats and can completely understand your feelings. Hope they are all OK this morning.
ReplyDeleteOh John, they break our hearts don't they ?
ReplyDeleteWe lost our amazing Dillon a few weeks ago, a huge part of our lives missing.
We now have Raffie, a bundle of golden Labrador Joy ! We will never replace Dillon but RAfa has brought much happiness and hilarity into our lives.
I adore Winnie and hope she is much better today . Thinking of you xx
Perfectly phrased! My thoughts as well, thank you Ray.
ReplyDeleteI hope that you found Winnie in good health this morning. Just a dream? You don't need anymore heartache. Love to you all. xx
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Winnie. Sending hugs to you all x
ReplyDeletePossibly a seizure? Very touching that her feline and canine family were so concerned for her. That kind of disturbed night is horrid, have a hug xox
ReplyDeleteOh Winnie.....my favourite girl. Hope she will be back to her slipper humping old self soon. John, you don't need anymore worry and heartache right now. X
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed she’s a bit better this morning xx
ReplyDeleteOh sorry to hear it - hope she is ok this morning. Pets do break your heart, but the joy they bring is worth the pain they put you through.
ReplyDeleteThey fill your heart and they break it. Wishing you ... and Winnie.., well.
ReplyDeleteHugs to you all.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, so sorry to read this John. It's such a blessing that you have your medical training. You are perfect doggy Dad. Love to you and all the furries, but special love and kisses to the magnificent Winnie. ♥️♥️
ReplyDeleteHope all is well this morning. xx
ReplyDeletexx
ReplyDeleteHope Winnie is okay this morning. You don't need any more heartbreak.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if she was just having a bad dream - like a canine sleep walk.
ReplyDeleteHoping you're all ok and sending ((hugs)) to my favourite Southern Belle.xx
ReplyDeleteThe heartbreak never seems to stop.
ReplyDeleteHad anyone other than you,John, told me that had happened,I would be far more worried than I am. Winnie could not be in a better home or better hands than yours. May today's news, whatever it will be, include as much love and comfort for you and her as possible,-Mary
ReplyDeleteHoping Winnie is well this morning. Are you going to see the vet this morning?
ReplyDeleteDear Sweet Winnie. Hope you are feeling better this morning. XX
ReplyDeleteOh dear. I hope she is not too affected when she wakes up. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to Winnie. I hope it was just a bad dream, as others here have said.
ReplyDeleteWishing the sweet old Winnie well.
ReplyDeleteWishing you and Winnie well. What an unpleasant way to be woken up, for both of you. -Jenn
ReplyDeletePerhaps it was a nightmare and she will be back to normal at breakfast and having a flannel.
ReplyDeleteOh no! Poor old lady. Very best wishes to you and your furry house mates x
ReplyDeleteI hope she's ok.
ReplyDeleteOh, so sorry to hear this :( Fingers crossed that it was just a mild seizure, not to be repeated...
ReplyDeleteBless her heart, I know how she feels .. I have had old dogs and cats that have done that. They shuffle off to the door but stop in the middle of the trip as if to think ( as we humans often do ) what was I going to the kitchen for ? I totally understand the broken heart .. I always swear I will never get another dog or cat ... and here I am .. with 3 cats. One who is very very old. But he isn't ready to go yet ..
ReplyDeleteBless her.
ReplyDeleteI hope things are better for Winnie this morning. I am thinking of you.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking intensely loving and positive thoughts for Winnie.
ReplyDeleteBeing hopeful me, I want to believe it was a dream she was having and not a stroke.
ReplyDeleteIf it's not people it's animals they all break you heart. Heather
ReplyDeleteSweet girl.
ReplyDeleteHope Winnie is bustling about like Margaret Rutherford in no time and there are no lasting effects.
ReplyDeleteThinking about your sweet Winnie and sending loving thoughts for her. I have had an opening on my sofa for another couch potato so a very plump 11 year old chihuahua terrier rescue has joined my loveies this past weekend. In honor of your lovely friend we are calling her Gladys.
ReplyDeleteOh dear. When it rains it pours. I hope she'll be ok. Hugs to you all.
ReplyDeleteMy heart goes out to you. Last night our 18yr old yorkie fell on her side and was not aware of where she was for about 10 mins. Then she got up as though nothing had happened. The vet told us to expect this as she has a heart murmur . I dread days like this not knowing. Take care xx
ReplyDeleteThanks, John. I hadn't heard about the other dogs in a while, that I could recall. Not the best news, but news.
ReplyDeleteI did not know she was old. Makes me sad. Let's hope for the best. My weenies are 14 and it weighs on my mind. Donna@Gather
ReplyDeleteThey do that....break our hearts. But more importantly, they fill our hearts with the most unconditional love.
ReplyDeleteIt's good that you have medical training. I hope things are okay this morning. Take care.
ReplyDeleteBy now you will have a better idea of Winnie’s condition. I hope all is well. We want them to live forever in wonderful health, but.... Hugs to you and your furry family.
ReplyDeleteYou have a brave heart.
ReplyDeleteLook at young Mary, healing Winnie with love.
ReplyDeleteXOXOOXO
I would love to read a follow up to this ... soon :)
ReplyDeleteI have ancient pets .. they act like ancient humans most of the time.
Don't leap to conclusions .. she might have just been dreaming ..that is my hope and I am sticking to it !
Sending love!!!
ReplyDeletePoor Winnie ..... hope she is back to her normal self again today. Hard for you as well John. Look after yourself and Winnie. XXXX
ReplyDeleteWishing you good thoughts and much strength to your clan. Get well soon, Winnie. I'll say a prayer for ya'll.
ReplyDeleteOh no! I'm so sorry, for Winnie and for you. Winnie is my very favourite blogland dog X Here's hoping that she hasn't broken your already fragile heart today xxx
ReplyDeleteDarling Winnie, bless her heart! I hope she’s okay! Gabs
ReplyDeleteYou and Mary seem to be very much alike. So caring.
