Night Out

Blowing away the cobwebs on a blustery beach today

Last night I went out with Bunty and her new girlfriend Katy.
I was still hung over from my night shift and tried to give Bunty a raincheck text but she was having non of it. They picked me up just before eight and we were in a gay pub in Chester by a quarter to nine.
Bunty checked me over after we had exited the car.
"Nice new pants Graybags!" She bellowed pointing at my clean trousers
"Sainsbury's " I told her
Bunty rolled her eyes
It's been a while since I've been in a gay anywhere!
The pub was loud, good humoured and busy and apart from a somewhat sticky moment where Bunty tried to introduce me to an uninterested but polite bear cub half my age, the night went ok.
I would have preferred a quieter venue but Bunty was on a roll

As Bunty got happily drunk and flirted in a loud goodnatured way with everyone, male and female Katy and I had a long chat . Katy, I liked immediately, she has a job working with abused women and deals with sex trafficing issues locally so the conversation was a rather illuminating and interesting one to me, a bloke who has absolutely no experience in such issues and the two of us carried on the conversation on the way home as Bunty snored away on the back seat.

When we neared the village Bunty was still asleep but she rallied briefly at  the suggestion of a McDonalds stop off.
" We'll go gay clubbing next time" she suggested as she bolted down a handful of fries and I was grateful for a wink and shake of the head from Katy which said don't worry- it's not going to happen- I know you are not up to that!
At the top of the lane I said my big sloppy burger tasting goodbye kisses with Bunty and a more civilised peck with Katy who , as I started to get out of the car, squeezed my hand  " Chin up dearheart" she said
She obviously reads my blog

Very brave John. After a nightshift I'd have been hanging and as for a nightclub, as a bloke in his 50s there are gentler ways of meeting people and having a good time! Living where you do I'd join a walking club - the dogs would enjoy it too!

  7. It sounds like there will be more meetings, hanging around each other's living rooms, with the occasional Bunty excursion. I think she get over needing them, though, or lose the girlfriend.

  10. The more I learn about Bunty, the more I like her. To me it speaks volumes that she chose you as a friend and Katy as a girlfriend- both persons that have depth and often devote themselves to people in need. I always am disappointed to find someone I care about has chosen a vapid, shallow or self-centered person to become involved with. It makes me question their values, and even long term success in terms of what they'll contribute to friends, family, society and our relationship.

Great photo of Mary and you on the beach today! - Mary

    1. Bunty is a livewire I don't see her often but she intrigued and entertained me the day she came and bought three aggressive geese off me. What you see is generally what you get

  20. A fun outing perhaps coming at a bad time after your first night shift on the new job. I do agree that I don't enjoy the bar scene as much as when I was much younger. But for now, sleep!

  22. It sounds like Bunty and Katy are a case of opposites attracting, maybe. I expect it was good to get out, even if just to get out of your own head for a bit. Doing something different, or with different people, is like a mini-reset for the brain.

How sweet it is ... even when still befuddled by a night shift messing with your biorhythms.

Friends are the sprinkles on the donut of life. Enjoy!

I sense you are a bit tentative in moving forward, perhaps this is not the venue for you. In the past, you would have been in your groove, but have moved on. But, you should find you way and commit to creating the future you envision, understanding the mixed emotions.

  32. Well it's good that you got a night out, though I completely sympathize with not wanting to go gay clubbing! I hope your lonely feeling the next day stemmed at least partly from fatigue and that after a good rest you felt somewhat better.

  34. Sounds like a good night, and it also sounds like Bunty has met a good 'un there.

Sometimes you need to be dragged out when it is actually the last thing you feel like doing. A change of scene, some fresh companions and a little bit of alcohol can work wonders :-)
