Back In The Saddle

Only a brief morning post today as I am saving my creative juices for tell you all about the choir later.
I've been chasing paperwork and officialdom from 9 am as I have hopefully got myself a part time , 2 nights a week job. A job that will pay some of the bills, support the animals and stop me thinking of what was and what could have been.
I won't tell you all more than that given that all of the i s have to dotted , suffice to say that after my non too reticent criticism of senior management decisions and abilities at my previous employ , I won't be going back to ITU.
Thank God!

More about the choir later......

  2. Dear John , please consider a paypal button on your side bar. I would love to at least contribute the price of a book. The equivalent of what I’ve been treated to for free. I know from your writing that you are a proud man. Readers , please respond below if you agree that we should kick in to repay John for all the ......well you know exactly what I mean

    1. I am up for that. John is (blog) family and I will gladly pay the price of a book.. Heck, he gives us something fresh to read just about every day.

    2. I look forward to your blog posts John every day. Have been casting around for a way to help a bit in exchange. My bank does not have international money orders, don't know if you can exchange USD for pounds conveniently. Paypal sounds like a good idea.

    3. Great idea! He has no annoying advertisements on his blog which I appreciate immensely! I have stopped following several blogs because there are all kinds of advertisements dancing around. This blog is one of my top 4 favorites, and I'd love to contribute the price of a book. I read a lot of books, and this blog is absolutely a live on-going drama. I love it! And, yes, I do have a PayPal account.

I'm in! Super way to support this blog. I enjoy it more than Netflix or any of the other cable junk we pay for.

    6. Why is it always me who tries to explain to you the error of your ways - to then get a clip round the ears for my efforts?

"No matter how skint I am I'd never hear of it". Well, John, you have already "heard of it". And I think what Curly Club suggested, and others support, an excellent idea; a tasteful idea - the book that you have largely already written, in blogform, now being "purchased". This is not charity because you are "skint"; this is born out of genuine affection. Call it an exchange of goods it that makes you feel better.

Think about it as gifts among friends. You give your readers pleasure (obviously not me - so please do expect a heavily discounted contribution), so why not let them give you something in return? You don't refuse cupcakes or scones from the likes Aunt Gladys when you visit her (insert x examples of your life in the village), do you, or Christmas presents?

How many times have some of your readers tried to persuade you to write a book, make the film, whatever. I hasten to add, not me - but that's because I know what a tough industry it is.

What has been suggested is not some noble gesture but literally an expression of affection.

And do remember, there is an art to receiving gracefully. Employ it. Writing thank you notes will be your punishment.

Can't wait to be put into my corner once more.

Patreon and paypal for individuals is American. It,s really not the done thing in the UK, unless for charity just giving etc. The thaught of such thing would mortifyingly embarass most people in UK. Guess we are a bit more stiff upper lip. Whatever happens in US usually catches on here sooner or later. But this hasnt yet!. Xxx

    8. Ursula, you put it so well. I have no idea why you are constantly jumped on... it often feels very unfair when I read the comments directed at you.

  12. Good luck! I look forward to hearing about the choir. I have admired your restraint when talking about your husband's decisions, and now I admire the way you're working toward establishing a new life. If you put a Pay Pal button, I will certainly contribute.

  14. Two nights a week sounds good .... it leaves you with five more available for potential AirBnB customers in the spareroom 😁

You can earn something like £4000 a year from your home, completely tax free. Why not look into it 😊

My son owns 2 houses in popular areas in the States and makes about 50,000 a year renting them out on airB&B. Check your area on the website and see what others are charging. Also it isn't mandatory to serve a meal to the renters.

  20. All the best in your new job. Having had more than my fair share of hospitals recently, I have to say that all the nurses on all the wards so far have been the most wonderful people. Anyone in your care will be very lucky indeed xx

  23. You do have a huge following:) and you don't have annoying ads pop up. I quickly leave blogs that do.
I think a paypal button would be good. I have one but it's not been used but a few times. It's easy to add to your site, and you could say to 'help with the animals or ??' I enjoy your blog although I as everyone else is saddened by your current life passage.:(

  25. Glad to hear about the job John - something to occupy your mind on the future and not what might have been. I have been there and I know how self destructive it can become. Look forward to hearing more.

  26. Great news about the job. You have a lot to give, John. A Paypal button would be well used, I think.

  29. Another blog I read calls his button the Generosity Enabler. https://benhewitt.net/

I see nothing wrong with it to be honest. You do not run ads and people can choose whom to read and support. Quite frankly you have dedicated followers, myself included, who clearly want to support you financially. Arts have always been subsidized by patrons, look at it that way my dear.
    Congrats on the job!!

  30. Choir sounds like a great idea. Hope you enjoy your new job, you have so many skills and such compassion to offer your patients.
If you did use some of your space for AirBnB, you know you would have all of us booking in!

Well done on getting the two night/week job! They are lucky to have a most excellent nurse like you. Hope you enjoy working there.

I'm so glad you've spent part of today singing with the community choir. How splendid that must have been.

  32. Good luck with the new part time job! I can't wait to hear what it is. Two evenings a week is good to make some money but still have lots of "you" time. The choir sounds interesting. You know you will eventually have to post a video or sound bite for all of us!

  33. Another accomplishment.. goes to show your skills are needed..you are needed and will be appreciated. Two nights will probably feel like a week! Good luck and well done getting back in the saddle.
