The Haunting Of The Internet

Maddie, William, George and Meg

Evan Williams from Shropshire sent me the above photo last week. He found it on the internet when he was researching something to do with dog behaviour. It was the banner photo of a webpage I had no knowledge of.
Evan Emailed me the link thinking that I would enjoy the frolicking Terrier shot. He had no idea that the dogs in the photo were indeed mine and that the photo was taken by me too.....albeit one from ten years ago now.
How strange.
How strange that our work, our photographs and our ideas can be all be " out there"  forever and a day almost without us knowing or remembering .

  4. It's bloody scary actually, it's like Big Brother, everything we say or do on the internet is monitored one way or another. Lovely photo of the dogs though, they all look like they were having a great time.

  5. That's the internet. Let's not blame the medium. We use it. And, in return, are, occasionally, being used. Albeit use of your dogs a nice one.

We can't walk from A to B without CCTV following our every step. Freaks me out if I think about it. So I don't. Welcome to Big Brother. Let's hope he is a benign one.

    2. You don't have to do anything to copyright words and photos, they are covered by copyright as soon as you make them, even without any "copyright" notice. People should not do these things without at least giving credit and a link back to the source, but of course they do.

  17. Wow, that IS strange! I've never come across any of my pictures THAT randomly, but I've been contacted by people who often want to use them -- and although I usually say yes, I bet for every person who asks, there are plenty who don't.

  18. You took the photo, so you own the copyright. You should ask them to credit you with the photo at the very least. Too many people assume a photo is free to use just because it's on the 'Net. It isn't.

  19. I never really worried since no one reads my blog anyway lol; however I was on Google images one day and pictures came up, that really startled me. Years ago there was a blogger that everyone in group was friends with, turned out to be a total fake, the person had been taking posts and pictures from other blogs for years. It happened one day that the original posters came across the false blogger.

  24. A great picture. Anything I put online, I expect someone will some day, use - not much I can do about it.

Many years ago, I was at the Lincoln Memorial taking a picture of travel penguin perched on my finger. A couple of days later, someone posted a comment, a picture me, taking that picture. I freaked just a little on that one.

  47. The owner of another "dog" blog I follow is a fabulous photographer, and she was notified by a follower that another person was using her photos on this person's blog, and even pretending that they were her dogs! Bizarre... She sent her some kind of notice about violating rules of usage and that she needed to cease and desist. There ARE rules about this...

  49. So many strange and wonderful things happen. I once posted about the wood floors we put in after living with wretched concrete ones for 2 years. A year or two later, my oldest daughter in San Diego was working at her desk and her office mates were discussing wood floors. One girl pulled up a photo and said, "I like these wood floors", which made my daughter look up. She told them, "That's my mom's house!" Such a coincidence.
