The Acorn Didnt Fall Far From The Tree*

I helped out at my sister's flower Show today. It was nice to see several of Trelawnyd Flower Show's regulars win prizes in the art, cookery and vegetable classes....another case of the ebb and flow of such events.
I was tired when I got home and had to clean the cottage for it's first viewing.
I need not have bothered as the woman who had booked the appointment never actually got out of her car.
"I don't want to live on a main road" she said through her drivers window
"It's actually a quiet lane" I corrected her as Winnie blew bulldog kisses from the front garden gate
but she didn't slow her car down before she drove off.
I can't say I was bothered
It stopped me writing another, more waspish post

  1. In the US, the homeowner is never home when someone comes to view a house that's for sale. Is it like that in Wales, or do homeowners and prospective buyers interact?

  2. You win some you lose some John. There are bound to be folk who just don't live up to expectations.

  3. What a cow. We had people actually viewed so many times we thought they were going to move in. Then discovered their house wasnt even on the market. Good luck John.

  4. I also find it odd that you are there to show your own home. Does your real estate agent come as well? Here, if you list with a real estate company, the agent tells you when someone is going to be coming to see your home and you'd better not be there! Of course, you are at the mercy of whether your agent is good or not. -Jenn

  7. I use to stage and show homes for a few years. I got into it to help sell my X homes. I liked the staging and selling part, hated all the money problems part.
    Your lovely home looks beautiful.

    cheers, parsnip

  8. Her loss.
In Australia the home owner is strongly encouraged to be absent from home viewings.

  9. The acorn may not have fallen far from the tree but the American grey squirrel picked it up and ran off to bury it in the middle of the village bowling green.

  10. Years ago I showed a family of -young couple prospective buyers, her parents, sister, boyfriend & little girl around my small house.I made them a cup of tea & biscuits & felt uncomfortable as the boyfriend kept looking at my neck. The mother said''he loves anything that sparkles''.Think he was after my necklace. I was pleased when they left x

  11. Interesting differences in real estate practices. The pictures from the flower show looked great.

  12. That's a lot of work to go too for such an insensitive reaction. The least she could have done was come in and have a look anyway.

I miss the Novelty Veg competition this summer!

  15. What a rude woman. Your lovely cottage doesn't want someone like her in it anyway.

  16. What were you referring to when you originally called your blog the acorn doesn't fall far from the tree?Mary

  17. Re your past post on pronouncing your village name (which I only comment on here because the original post is now, well, past):-
I only noticed yesterday, watching the Proms, that there's a BBC broadcaster, usually unseen on Radio 3 but last night front of camera, with name of Petroc Trelawny, pronounced, as he does himself, just as the spelling looks it would be. So, just add a 'd' and voila!
Just thought I'd mention - now back into shell.

  19. That was a shame John, you didn't have time to tell her the vehicle noise kept the ghosts down in the cellar. A few plastic cockroaches tossed around the kitchen is good. Knock up some newspaper items about the vicious large black cat that reputably roams the area, and don't forget the scrappie infected sheep that waits for strangers. Between you and I, we should delay the sale for at least two years.

  20. Well that women.... what a bitch! LOL

  21. Better to tell you rather than waste your time, and invade your privacy, by still looking round the house even though it wasn't for her. Not so bad. I have had similar experiences. It is nothing.

Don’t want her living in your charming home!

  25. Yes in the US it's the realtors job to show the house and earn their keep. What do they get paid to do there then?

I will miss that cottage when it sells.

  26. Rude woman! I had a woman (again!) tell me as she was walking around that there weren’t enough rooms. She had the printed details in her hand and our semi was 4 bedrooms and 3 reception rooms plus a utility. There’s no pleasing some people.

  27. She could have saved your time and hers if she'd checked Streetview or Google Earth beforehand.

  28. When mum in law was trying to sell her house, a couple turned up to view. Mum in law had a strong feeling, as she was showing them around the house, that they weren't very interested. Eventually, the woman admitted that they had only made an appointment to see what a pergola was, as they had never seen one before, and it was mentioned in the particulars!!!

  29. I just looked at the listing for your cottage on Zoopla. It's charming. I don't understand how that woman couldn't have known it was situated before coming for her appointment. I hate selling houses and having to listen to people complain about "Where am I going to put my 9 ft. sofa?" At one home we sold, a woman came back several times and really seemed to like it. On the final time, her real estate agent asked me "Don't you think it's a little small?" What the hell? It dawned on me that she was trying to get the price down by bad mouthing the house in front of the potential buyer. Not gonna happen.
