Parròquia de Sant Bartomeu i Santa Tecla

Sitges is dominated by the ancient Church of St Bartomeu and St Tecla.
It presides over the town with all of the warmth and care of a broody fat hen and I love it because of that fact.

Yesterday I walked around it's base and giant walls as I have done so many times before and felt somewhat melancholy for a time as my husband wasn't there to enjoy the views with me as usual.
Even when you are silent, sharing a view from Sitges Church is a powerful event no matter how many times you have done it.

From the plaza in front of the Church doors I looked across the Promenade. I could see my great nephew on his skateboard, and his dad, my nephew, waved up at me. The rest of the family were dotted around, either swimming or walking or sleeping on their Sun chairs or playing rugby, but it was sort of  nice to sit by the Church in the setting sun and watch a thousand swifts soar around it's bell towers like a giant swarm of friendly bees.

  2. You describe it so well, I feel like I am there. Would enjoy seeing the swifts. We have them in a few places in Nova Scotia, where they roost inside old industrial chimneys at dusk. It is quite a sight to see them flying in like little rapid arrows.

  4. Good to see you open for business as usual, John.

Sounds great. A moment's or two of melancholy or not. I could do with the setting you describe.

You know how you sometimes say at the end of your posts "comments on a postcard please"? My problem being that my handwriting is, let's say, expansive. Meaning I can't say anything within such limited and limiting limitations. Other than sign off.

However, here goes - and if you heard it before and groan, my apologies; it made me laugh when I came across it yesterday:

"The weather is here. Wish you were beautiful."

    Hasta la Vista,
    U

  11. What a wonderful picture. Sounds like you are having a great time. Would love to see Spain one day and yes, sure I have romanticized what it is like, but that is the point isn't it?? Enjoy!!

  12. I'm glad you're enjoying your time away!

I'm used to being without my husband, the military life always came first. Independence is good. I never thought I'd drive across the Rockies with small children and dogs, but it happened twice a year because Daddy was away.

Safe journey home to your pack.

  15. Gorgeous foto! Marvelous and wonderful descriptions of an enchanting place. I'm glad you're embracing the moment. I'm happy you're spending a great time with your family. It's ok to miss the loved ones not there to share in the moment. But there's always hope for next time. The place makes a lovely honeymoon destination.
