Carshare

Many readers here will never of heard of the gentle Uk comedy series Carshare.
Following such Northern based classics as The Royale Family and Victoria Wood's Dinnerladies , Carshare's plot and narrative are simple, plain working class affairs.
Set essentially in a small car on the A roads of rush hour Manchester it is the will-they, won't - they story of John and Kayleigh, two retail workers who share a car to get to work.
John ( Peter Kay)is a lumpy commitment phobe who hides his shyness behind exasperated humour and Kayleigh ( a delightfully warm Sian Gibson) is a bubbly , slightly dippy girl looking for the Mr Right, and together they chat about life, music, shared colleagues and gossip and during the series' brief three year run. All over that time audience has been busting a gut to see the two of them finally get together and bowing to that need Kay has produced a satisfying ending to the uneven courtship
Last night's finale was a typically gentle affair.
There was no big kiss.
No big, drama .
Just a gentle love story of two, slightly sad souls who finally hold hands and commit to each other on the way to work.
Not a dry eye in the house

  6. I have loved "Car Share" and watched last night's final episode with a permanent smile upon my face. Peter Kay is a comedy genius. My favourite episode was probably the one where they visited a zoo and accidentally picked up a simian hitch-hiker! Hilarious.

  7. Loved it - it was such an appropriate ending instead of being soppy and out of character with the show. Wistful and gentle and no less touching for it. Peter Kay is often very clever in his understanding of human nature.

  8. I loved it too. It's probably much more true of how people get together, i.e. awkwardly, than the bolt of lightening or glances across a crowded room. Let's face it, we can look at some couples we know and wonder how on earth they managed to get together!

    1. i’m sure people wonder about us. Today is our 47th anniversary and sometimes we wonder about us too. I think it is laughter that gets us over the rough bits.

  10. I'm a big fan of this programme, funny and the music on the car radio was cleverly put into their conversations on their way to work. A perfect ending, the two sitting on a bus, hands entwined. As Yorkshire Pudding said, possibly the best episode was the pair bunking off work and visiting a safari park, and mistakenly getting an extra passenger.

  12. Have I told you lately that you have my favorite blog - I don't know if it is because of you or because of all of your animals, but I just love it. No, do not be polite and go to my blog - I have't written on it in years.

  13. It was a brilliant end to a brilliant series.

Through every episode we loved playing spot the 'funny sign' lots of signs, posters and graffiti that is absolutely hilarious and form part of the humour along with the radio soundtrack. Just two of yesterdays were a coffee shop call He-Brew, with two very obviously Jewish people sat drinking coffee underneath the shop name, then there was 'Buy 3, Pay for 3' on the poster outside the drive-through.

The poor car at the end ... they might have had a happy ending but the poor Fiat 500L didn't :-(
