Simple Things

I've just bought a set of dominos from eBay ...
I had to follow the bloody thing until 22.40 before I " won" it!
It cost me £ 6.99 ( including postage)
Is that surprising for a man of 55?
I've bought it because when The Prof and I were in Broadstairs I escaped to the micro pub The Thirty Nine Steps  and had a lovely hour teaching the Prof to play dominos!
I could have bought a bingo dibber as on New Year's Eve , ( and much to my horror) , The Prof's family set up a game of bingo at the dinner table ...- and that provided us all with a strangely entertaining and somewhat lively after dinner pastime!
But I didn't
My innate snobbishness precludes buying bingo accessories !

Scrabble is my favorite game followed by cribbage. Cribbage is huge here in the U.P. My husband doesn’t play games so we don’t get invited out much. I miss it.

Somehow Bingo has developed a decidedly trashy image over the last few years thanks to the images portrayed on TV, going from a quick and easy method of entertaining old farts to a way for groups of overly excitable women to feed a gambling habit.
Dominos seems to retain an image of more cultured gentlemen hunched over a slightly worn table in an old country pub with pints of ale on the go.
    Enjoy!

  21. I feel much the same about Bingo John, but dominoes - up here in Yorkshire, when I first married the farmer twenty four years ago, almost every village had a winter domino drive and we went to them all. I had never played before and was a rotten player - he was quite good and won a few prizes.

  22. The trouble with bingo is that there is absolutely no skill involved ! One of the reasons that I stopped going to a " club"......speaker some weeks, activities others.....you know the sort of thing....was that if there was any time left at the end they got the bingo out ! Also the quality of speaker was going down.
