Winter Morning
Not sure I have anything to say today.
The cottage is uncharacteristically quiet
The sun is weak and watery and all I can hear is the tick of the clock and the squabbling of the hedge sparrows by the front door
There needs to be a quiet time after the Christmas merriment. Miserable day on the east coast, pouring rain, greyness everywhere. I’ve got Christmas lights on and music to banish the gloom.
I'm surprised you can see the sun through all the thick rain clouds. Like Albert you should make the most of it while it lasts ... cats have the right idea don't they :-)
I actually did brave the weather to go for a walk down by the lake. It was cold & windy and it's been snowing steadily all day but it was good to get some air. The plows cleared the sidewalks just as I arrived so after climbing over a snowbank (with the help of a friend) we were able to enjoy a nice walk in safety. I do have to be careful as I walk with a cane but it was good to get out. Now I'm home and watching the Hockey Game with the Juniors from the outside rink in Buffalo - they are tough kids - you can barely see as the snow is coming down so hard and they have to keep calling time to clear the ice! It is about -22C but there are thousands in the stands.
Always with comfort being paramount, he chooses the sunny i.e. warmer spot, then will move to the other side, if that's the way the sun's going. Funny and fascinating.
Looks like a scene from 'Little Women'....which was brilliant, btw. I'm crying Freedom until next Thursday.I'm quite giddy at the thought of it, don't you know!!
Quiet moments like this are things to treasure! I love the peace and quiet of the days after the Christmas rush, it is nice to relax with my cat and enjoy a good book, or a shaft of sunlight where kitty sleeps. It's all good. Have a good New Year, John!
I love quiet days like that. Probably just as well because I have a lot of them. Love Albert claiming the spot in the sun. A good vantage spot to see anything going on too.
Lovely. Beautiful photo. I posted almost the same photo. Mandibles and I did this early on Christmas morning. So quiet in the house with the only light coming from the Christmas tree. He searched for Santa and I sat with a coffee and enjoyed the moment.
It is very quiet here but that is partly due to the fact that it is very cold for Florida ... like 7C .... the world is coming to an end .. :) The cats have all gotten the best warm spots and I am drinking hot tea by the gallon. It is very quiet here too ... the birds all froze.
Your cottage looks so peaceful! I’m fond of Albert! He’s a beautiful cat. He beats to his own 🥁 I, too have had a quiet day of reflection. I’ve gazed at the bird feeder throughout the day. The gangs all cold and need some seed. My red headed woodpecker has made his presence today.
Ah, the quiet after Christmas. Most necessary. We are in the "Knock off a couple of summer jobs, then relax with a book" mode here. Bill scrubbed the front porch and I scared the bejeebers out of a couple of kitchen cupboards.
nice pix of albert in the sun.
ReplyDeleteThose quiet moments are treasures.

ReplyDeleteAnd he does frequently

ReplyDeleteHe's unnerved cos the cottage is so quiet
DeleteNice. I like the eclectic assortment of cushions and how they are all arranged on the point :)
ReplyDeleteThey are not usually that neat. Winnie usually scatters them
DeleteSome days are like that. I hope you are ready for tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteOff to Kent to see in-laws Albert has a house sitter
DeleteLooks like a good day for an interesting bake.
ReplyDeleteJust watch your step. Albert is keeping a beady eye on you.
ReplyDeleteHe misses nothing
DeleteBeautiful photo! That says it all.
ReplyDeleteA peaceful day. They are few and far between John...enjoy it while it lasts.

My goodness
DeleteMontreal here! Totally enjoying a quiet day - debating whether I should dress up and go for a walk. Or maybe not.

DeleteDoing the same in Ancaster. Brrrrrrr
DeleteGood day to stay home and be cozy. I love those kinds of days.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately that's not going to happen
DeleteI like peaceful moments and clocks that tick.
ReplyDeleteJohn sometimes you have to let the peace and quiet speak for itself. Your cottage front room oozes coziness on a very cold winters day, Enjoy xx
ReplyDeleteA peaceful and cosy scene. East or West, Home is best.
ReplyDeleteMake the most of it only being sparrows squabbling

ReplyDeleteI love really quiet mornings when on can sit with the first cup of decent coffee (Kenyan first thing) and do absolutely nothing.
ReplyDeleteI always like seeing pictures of Albert.
ReplyDeleteAs it is a little untidy and crazy in our house at the moment I could just do with a bit of that peace and quiet.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely photo.
Looks like a scene from 'Little Women'....which was brilliant, btw. I'm crying Freedom until next Thursday.I'm quite giddy at the thought of it, don't you know!!
ReplyDeleteSounds perfect to me.

ReplyDeleteI love the photo. We're having more snow at the moment. Our high today was 12°F; Jo is curled up in front of the wood/coal stove, happily snoozing.
ReplyDeleteLovely lad. Albert that is. Your nice too John
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to have moments like these.
ReplyDeleteSounds very peaceful to me
ReplyDeleteAnd in typical cat fashion, Albert has found and claimed what sunlight there is.
ReplyDeleteEchoing Elephant's Child in that I have a lot of days like this and they are my idea of heaven.
