Gold Lamé Underpants

One of the gifts my sister bought The Prof and I were a pair of gold ( for him) and silver ( for me) novelty underpants which went down a bit of a storm.
I was reminded of a long distant Christmas from childhood when my father ran into a crowded room in his vest and y fronts and fell into the Christmas tree with an inebriated in law.
That was in the 1970s and public underwear wearing was deemed hilarious way back then.
We seem much more sophisticated now

The Prof is cooking today in his Christmas pyjamas !
He is presently cooking a ham and is preparing a mountain of bubble and squeak.
I am sat in the living room armchair, still a bit washed out but grateful that my now chest infection is becoming more mobile. I sound like a pan of scouse which is bubbling away on the stove top.
Yes I'm painting a rather attractive picture of myself rant I ? .....lovely!

I better get up....as the dogs need feeding,
I've been reminded as I've just seen Winnie eat a very small hand knitted Christmas pudding tree decoration.
Hey ho

We were fed and watered wonderfully at my sister's home yesterday so today's its 1970s Boxing day fare with a retro trifle !

  1. We really MUST see you wearing those undies - and with the Prof too, if you can get him a bit tipsy. You say they "went down a storm" so you've already shown them off. Don't worry - you're allowed to wear a mask if you want to preserve your dignity. (Dignity? What dignity!) Come on now, otherwise we won't believe you!

    1. I have just been sent a photo of the Prof IN his underpants but I am afraid no one will ever see it, I would be hung drawn and quartered

    2. He's only kidding, J.G. (Tee hee!) Don't let him intimidate you. Go ahead and let us see - and, of course, we do really insist on seeing YOU in your glittery smalls.

  2. Sounds like you're nearly over the dreaded lurgie. I'm carrying a symbolic tissue and waving it at anybody who wants to approach too close with their hand outstretched of lips pursed. Also I'm drinking gallons of ginger tea. And eating tons of garlic. And washing my hands every five minutes. And wafting incense around. And wearing my grandads long johns if it's cold. Unsociable and unglamorous I am I know. But last year I was laid low 3 times. It's not gonna happen this year I hope and pray.

  4. I simply do not believe that you received gold and silver underpants for Christmas! You have probably just made it up. The only way I shall believe otherwise is if you post a photo of you and Chris in these pants.

  6. The trifle and ham look very tempting!
Hope you get over the chest infection quick sharp. I started in October. It's taken two courses of clarithromyacin, two of Doxycycline and a five day course of steroids so far........
    Best wishes.

  9. Indeed, if the underpants "went down," I imagine they did cause "a bit of a storm."

  10. Somehow I think the only time we will see Silver and Gold, is when Winnie is wearing them.

  13. John, get better soon. The prof's ham and trifle looks very good. I am now thinking I should have bought a ham too. Our Christmas was just a really good one. I loved it all.

  14. I can't tell you how happy I am that the American colonies didn't pick up the boxing day tradition. By the time Christmas is over I am feasted out and couldn't take another day of it. But I do hope that you and the Prof enjoy your day.

  18. We may not have Boxing Day, but here in Texas we do have this: "The annual German tradition, Zweite Weihnachten (“second Christmas”), will be held at the Gillespie County Historical Society Social Hall. The event is sponsored by the Fredericksburg German Club and includes food, drink, music and fellowship. There will also be the traditional baked Stollen and warm Gluhwein." Gold and silver underpants optional.

  20. I hope it wasn't a case of gold for 1st place and silver for 2nd place; what are we to make of that??

And wait a sec, the Prof can COOK??

All kinds of Christmas surprises! Get well soon, John.

  25. My 'retro trifle' looks similar - no cherries and sprinkles - sliced almonds and Amaretti bits! Do use a glass dish though and soaked those sponge cake babies in a lot of Harvey's Bristol Cream - how about your version . . . . . .and does Winnie enjoy it? Has to be better than a hand-knitted Xmas pud!
    Happy Boxing Day
    Mary -

  30. Shame you were not feeling well. My cousin who lives near you has also been suffering from the same sort of illness so the whole district must be passing it around. hope you will be back feeling on top of the world by New Year. Cheers.

  31. Yum. The food, not the undies hehe. I couldn't find a ham on the bone small enough so bought three pieces of it which was FAR too much. We've had ham with salad, ham with onions and leftover new potatoes fried in butter, and tonight we had a ham and potato and onion frittata. MrC thinks Christmas is still with us!
