....and finally

Lifestyle blog today. That mixed with a tale of some monumental sulking after the floor layers refused to say hello to Winnie and she in a fit of pique flung herself onto the vinyl like Scarlet did after being rejected by Ashley Wilkes.

Two open shelves need to be built on the wall behind the table but apart from that the kitchen is now finished and remains clean, tidy, bright and fresh.

Hey ho

  2. Looks fantastic John - wishing you happy days in your new kitchen. For me the kitchen is the busiest room in our 'cottage' - I seem to spend half my life there - no complaints though. Looking out on a rainy morning here so have my Christmas lights on and will be busy making those mince pies later - Christmas music playing the background. Life is good!

  10. I predict that Ikea is going to get a huge run on orders for new kitchens in your little part of the world. You should get a commission.
It really is lovely, John. I would cook there most happily.

I've refrained from commenting on the kitchen until it was finished, and I must say I'm rather impressed - especially with that sink, and the block worktops!

Stunning!! I spot something black and hairy under the chair. Is that sweet George? "Fiddle-Dee-Dee" to the workman for ignoring the gorgeous winnie x

  20. It's lovely John. I like the table and chairs very much. Poor Winnie looks just like a toddler who is about to flail her arms and legs about whilst having a tantrum and announcing 'It's not fair!'

  23. It's beautiful John...just beautiful...and I absolutely LOVE the bulldog floor mat. Give her a hug for me.

    ReplyDelete
  24. It looks really gorgeous ❤

Love the 'bulldog rug' ... but having one with such a deep pile is a tripping hazard...lol 😉

Might I just suggest a white radiator cover, as the radiator is against your table this would give you a nice ledge to put condiments, tablemats etc on and really finish off the room. Our radiator cover started quite minimal though and has now developed into another surface for books ... so maybe not such a good idea!!

    1. I am grateful for more ideas to tweak the design keep em comming

    2. In that case .... I also think you could have a nice vase of seasonal flowers (or a pot plant) on the window sill of the little window that looks out over the lane. A little bit of privacy for you in the kitchen but still in keeping with your lovely new kitchen, rather than nets etc.

Oh ... and a Pug rug for the floor ... to keep Winnie company ;-)

    3. If you do put a radiator cover/ledge I am afraid what will happen it will start to collect stuff and then there goes you neat kitchen

    4. Isn't a radiator cover a fire hazard? And will it impede the heat coming into the room?

  40. Shufftie the table along a bit and you could get a nice corner unit in that space to display your other bits and pieces and put a lamp on top for mood lighting when your kitchen' s closed!or not as the case may be!All tickety-boo though and love your table and chairs.

  41. Can you provide details of vinyl? Did they put plasterboard down first? I've been quoted 500 quid for mine but feel it's too much.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Our went on a concrete floor and the floor had. To be moisture tested but it was cheap considering 310£ and 60 fitting

    2. Mines is wooden floorboards in bad nick and not even attempting to sand and revarnish. It nearly killed me last time!!Hence the need for a new floor. I'll think about it tomorrow!

  42. Very exciting. I got new flooring in the entire house about a year ago and I still get giddy when I notice it. Poor Winnie!!! Also, is that a washing machine for clothes in the kitchen? Is that typical? Here in the US we have a separate room usually. I've been curious since seeing it in a picture awhile back.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes it's common , especially in smaller houses in the U.K. to have the WASHING MACHING in the kitchen . I'd love a utility room

      Delete
    2. And some people don't even have HOMES in the UK, let alone a separate room for the washing machine.

  43. Scarlett also flounced out of the room .. I like this one better, just throw yourself on the floor and lay there like a dead thing lol

  44. I remember the tile dilemma we went through .. ok, that I went through when redoing a 50's kitchen in Buenos Aires .. I did what you did .. white subway tile .. I had a Standard Poodle on my floor though ..

  45. I have such serious kitchen envy therapy might be needed! I love the colours, especially the change from the splashback to the window area. I love the antique china (there’s a minimalist thing going on s part of the world where NOTHING, BUT NOTHING can be on a bench.... how can one work without tools at the ready! And if there is limited storage it’s even more of a cram.

Oh! The sinks!! You lucky guy! Mine is a sink and an eighth/quarter, and just totally inadequate... you’ve done a fabulous job....

Poor Winne, she’s definitely having a Diva Moment!

  46. Lovely! I'd sit in there all day if it was my kitchen.

  62. You have created a lovely, cheerful kitchen that feels very welcoming. I am very impressed and very pleased for you.

Poor Winnie, lying there so dejected due to the aloofness of the floor layers, can't even appreciate the charm of the kitchen in the state she is in. I feel bad for her.

  66. It is GORGEOUS! You did a wonderful job planning. It really didn't take too long, either, did it? Done in time for the holidays - excellent!

You may also have solved a problem we are having; we need to replace our vinyl kitchen floor, and I like the look of yours far more than anything I've seen. We just finished a two-year replacement of carpeting with hardwood but it can't go in the kitchen. This vinyl would go well. Thank you for that idea.

  72. I love that you have photographed it as a genuine, working kitchen rather than a magazine piece with empty bench tops and a pointless but pretty, excessively large floral arrangement

  73. Well worth the time and money and effort and inconvenience methinks. Kitchens are so expensive! But when we think about how much use they get, it's worth it eh! xo

  74. I love white kitchen cabinets! They always tell you where to clean whereas the dark wood ones always get sticky eventually!Good choices all round! Rope lights for your beautiful pots on the cabinet tops?
