The End Of The World

11am Trelawnyd

Ophelia hit West Wales harder than here in Trelawnyd so The Prof's University closed for business at midday. With him home with the car I was able to take William to the vets for his medication review.
The Spanish vet, with the sexy lisp saw us and she mentioned the strange phenenomen this morning when the sun went all red and the sudden darkness sent the bachelors scurrying back to their hen house.
" I heard it was Sand from the Sahara , pushed up into the atmosphere by Ophelia " I told her
" It was like the end of the world " she lisped seriously

  1. It was like it here at 4.30 pm and everywhere was yellow, grey and dark all at the same time. Lots of people photographing it.

  2. That is eerie. We had a similar effect from forest fire smoke once.

  3. And from the Portugese forest fires. Very strange sky here in Scotland. Day turned into night then the sun appeared and it was red!

  5. It s good you re all home safe and together, and have your car. [you can run the car to charge your phone in an emergency!/ crack the window so you don t suffocate tho.]. Hurricanes should be taken seriously, John.

    1. Both of us hate posh cars so we bought a tiny mini car with low taxage which we share

    2. The car wasn't what was important, tho even if small it should still be able to charge phones for emergency use during massive power failures...what was important was that you and the Prof were together at home, if indeed the storm was very bad.
Tho I used to think of you was the type to own an ancient but mechanically sound, only slightly smelling of barn yard old Land Rover. Back when you were farming more w all the animals.

PS My big Jeep and my friend's similar Jeep were the only vehicles of our neighborhood that survived Hurricane Sandy and drove out safely when we had to evacuate afterwards, so a big off road SUV is at times a blessing.

  7. Has the world ended? I wish somebody had told me! I would have polished off the bottle of Jamesons in our cabinet and eaten the last of the bacon in our fridge.

  8. Our sun looked similar most of the summer- wildfires burning up the province and smoke everywhere. I called it the zombie apocalypse sun...

  11. I have a feeling that when the end of the world happens, we will not have the time for it to register in our brain.

  12. I have seen skies like that. Very scary.

  13. That is one spooky sky. We saw something like it in a firestorm. By 3pm (in summer) the sky was pitch black - except for the leaping flames on the hills.

  14. Is your car now covered in fine red sand? I remember that happening here!

We had it here too. It was like being in a very old photograph - everything went all sepia. Weird.

  23. It arrived here in Sweden this morning. It was December dark outside and very eerie. Our newspapers reported that it was a combination of the forest fires raging in Spain and Portugal, combined with the strong winds from Ophelia, driving the heavy cloud and soot over Scandinavia. There is certainly a kind of burnt smell as well.

  24. An eerie looking sky. I recall watching a sandstorm filling the sky rolling in when we lived in southwestern U.S. state of Arizona. An awesome sight! The sand somehow penetrated the tightly closed house leaving a light film of dust over the furniture. Outside a few huge sand-filled drops of rain dirtied the pavement.

  26. God I feel like Mother Nature is giving people a real ass kicking these few short months. I feel so bad for the people who have lost their homes and their lives whether it was/is the fires or hurricanes. Stay safe everyone.
