11am Trelawnyd
The Spanish vet, with the sexy lisp saw us and she mentioned the strange phenenomen this morning when the sun went all red and the sudden darkness sent the bachelors scurrying back to their hen house.
" I heard it was Sand from the Sahara , pushed up into the atmosphere by Ophelia " I told her
" It was like the end of the world " she lisped seriously
It was like it here at 4.30 pm and everywhere was yellow, grey and dark all at the same time. Lots of people photographing it.
ReplyDeleteThat is eerie. We had a similar effect from forest fire smoke once.
ReplyDeleteAnd from the Portugese forest fires. Very strange sky here in Scotland. Day turned into night then the sun appeared and it was red!
ReplyDeleteWalking dead only a week away!
ReplyDeleteWetting my panties
DeleteIt s good you re all home safe and together, and have your car. [you can run the car to charge your phone in an emergency!/ crack the window so you don t suffocate tho.]. Hurricanes should be taken seriously, John.
ReplyDeletelizzy
Both of us hate posh cars so we bought a tiny mini car with low taxage which we share
DeleteThe car wasn't what was important, tho even if small it should still be able to charge phones for emergency use during massive power failures...what was important was that you and the Prof were together at home, if indeed the storm was very bad.
DeleteTho I used to think of you was the type to own an ancient but mechanically sound, only slightly smelling of barn yard old Land Rover. Back when you were farming more w all the animals.
PS My big Jeep and my friend's similar Jeep were the only vehicles of our neighborhood that survived Hurricane Sandy and drove out safely when we had to evacuate afterwards, so a big off road SUV is at times a blessing.

Your picture looks like it was taken in Mordor.
ReplyDeleteHas the world ended? I wish somebody had told me! I would have polished off the bottle of Jamesons in our cabinet and eaten the last of the bacon in our fridge.
ReplyDeleteHa! You could pretend the world had ended - no one would know
DeleteOur sun looked similar most of the summer- wildfires burning up the province and smoke everywhere. I called it the zombie apocalypse sun...
ReplyDeleteBarb
My Mum's staying in Llandudno at the moment John.Hope she doesn't get blown away 😲😲😲
ReplyDeleteThey showed it on the news here....it did look a little 'end of the worldish'.
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling that when the end of the world happens, we will not have the time for it to register in our brain.
ReplyDeleteI have seen skies like that. Very scary.
ReplyDeletecheers, parsnip
That is one spooky sky. We saw something like it in a firestorm. By 3pm (in summer) the sky was pitch black - except for the leaping flames on the hills.
ReplyDeleteIs your car now covered in fine red sand? I remember that happening here!
ReplyDeleteCertainly looks odd but somehow quite beautiful..
ReplyDeleteWe had it here too. It was like being in a very old photograph - everything went all sepia. Weird.
ReplyDeleteSame here in Naughty Nunthorpe.. Yellow tinge to the day and a red sun. It was really quite creepy
ReplyDeleteJust the same here in Suffolk but my photos were rubbish
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the BBC will have a really boring explanation.
ReplyDeleteI love a mystic vet......
ReplyDeletePersonally, I put it all down to Ming the Merciless.....
ReplyDeleteand along with the dust, ash from the forest fires in Iberia..it smelt weird
ReplyDeleteIt arrived here in Sweden this morning. It was December dark outside and very eerie. Our newspapers reported that it was a combination of the forest fires raging in Spain and Portugal, combined with the strong winds from Ophelia, driving the heavy cloud and soot over Scandinavia. There is certainly a kind of burnt smell as well.
ReplyDeleteAn eerie looking sky. I recall watching a sandstorm filling the sky rolling in when we lived in southwestern U.S. state of Arizona. An awesome sight! The sand somehow penetrated the tightly closed house leaving a light film of dust over the furniture. Outside a few huge sand-filled drops of rain dirtied the pavement.
ReplyDeleteFollow the chickens, and everything will be fine.
ReplyDeleteGod I feel like Mother Nature is giving people a real ass kicking these few short months. I feel so bad for the people who have lost their homes and their lives whether it was/is the fires or hurricanes. Stay safe everyone.
ReplyDeleteThat does look scary. Strange weather all over the world it seems.
ReplyDeleteYIKES . . . scary. . .
ReplyDeleteThere is certainly a kind of burnt smell as well.
