Clinton

ok ...I wasnt going to post anything else but I have just watched Hilary Clinton being interviewed on the UK chat show Graham Norton's show
Now Last year I heard her interviewed on radio 4,- and she came over as a rather bland character
But tonight with Norton's relaxed interview style She came across exceedingly well.....the President the US should have had

  1. Sigh...
In a parallel universe, perhaps she IS the president. i wish I resided there.

I think Hillary has let loose since the election. She's not the most charismatic politician we've ever had, but the American media and the regressive right over-scrutinized her to such a degree that she couldn't be authentic. While I understand some of the critiques against Hillary, she was far too qualified to lose an election to anyone, much less a racist, sexist, incompetent buffoon.

  4. In my judgement, Hillary Clinton is a good and decent human being. In addition, she is very intelligent and politically astute. No wonder the Russians wanted someone who was her direct opposite in The White House.

  5. She can get a little too rigid and rehearsed while campaigning, but just sitting and having a chat she can be very good. I'll look for that interview when it airs over here.

    1. The tone would be more civilised and less divisive. Noises about kicking off a nuclear war would not have been blurted out. There would be less thoughtless tweeting, less narcissism and more compassion. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act would not be so callously threatened and construction companies would not be forming plans to build a ridiculous wall along the Mexican border.

    2. The tone would be that of Adults having a conversation or discussion .. no waving baby hands and spouting off nonsense .. The US lost respect in so many countries

    2. In theory yes, Jennifer. Though I think people will think twice on this occasion. There are many who will not wish to admit to the colossal mistake currently representing the States and therefore will keep shtum. There is one blogger (not American) whose views on Hilary Clinton I know only too well. Like most her views on politics, I'd say unbalanced. She was the first who popped into my mind on reading John's post. Oh dear, I thought, this won't go down well. Amusingly, so far she is nowhere to be seen. But then, in all fairness, John's post was more a human interest piece rather than a political broadcast. I wish I could tell you what a good friend of mine (she is American, married to an Englishman and lives over here - in England) reacted when the election result was announced. Unfortunately, I can't because I am not even supposed to know. Suffice it to say it was hilarious. Not least because she has quite a temper. That she didn't trash her American passport in disgust is a miracle.

I will watch this, but don’t expect it to change anyone’s mind. There is a very right wing blog BloviatingZepplin that I read from time to time. He posted a clip of Clinton being interviewed by the ITV or Channel 4 guy. She was commenting on Weinstein, the interviewer asked about Bill! She said that was all litigated and in the past. BZ picked up on the fact that she said it was in the past and then slammed her for that.

    1. What is so stupid about the comparison Weinstein/Clinton that I do not believe Bill Clinton would ever coerce a woman. Trust me. Call it intuition. Anyway, he wouldn't have to. He was/is an attractive man with a natural aura, natural charm, that certain something. Admittedly I didn't like his "that" woman remark (pretty demeaning) but then neither do I think there was any need to justify himself (other than, maybe, to his wife).

    2. I I agree with you Paxman (UK newsreader/interviewer) wrote a book recently about bits of his life. One of his comments on Bill Clinton was that if you could bottle what he had you could make a fortune.

  21. I would have missed this interview so thanks for highlighting it. I thought her comment about during the debates when Trump 'loomed over her' trying to intimidate her was so right; she couldn't get aggressive nor be seen to shrink but what she wanted to say was 'back off creep'. A very enlightening interview.

  24. My daughter and I are going to see her speak in Atlanta in a couple of weeks - looking forward to it! She is an extremely intelligent and thoughtful woman who has devoted much of her adult life to public service and been pilloried for it... She absolutely should have stopped dead during that debate, turned around and asked "Can I help you?" when he was intimidating her. And when he said "What a nasty woman", she should have stopped and said, "Wow. Well, I guess I'm lucky that's the worst thing he called me, because we've all heard the tapes of how he talks about women." Fighting back like that might have helped her, idk. But she took the high road, and unfortunately it did not serve her well :(

    1. Interesting, I am one third of the way through her book. Re the second debate she wondered whether she should say “Back up, you creep, get away from me, I know you love to intimidate women but you can’t intimidate me, so back up.”

But she chose to keep her cool.

Another statement that made me step back was:
“To divert attention from his own ugliness, Trump brought to our second debate three women who had accused my husband of bad acts decades ago, plus a woman whose accused rapist I had been ordered by a judge to represent back in Arkansas. It was an awful stunt.”

“Bad acts”, I guess that is one way to describe rape.

  28. What should or shouldn't have been is moot point. Clinging to what happened even in the recent past isn't productive to moving forward. She's unable to move on and there's roughly one year left before announcements will be made about who's going to challenge the oval office in 2020. Instead of wishing a different outcome had happened, why not look forward? The party would be best served by letting it go and finding new, dynamic voices. Globally, folks seem to be tired of old voices singing the same notes they have for decades.

  29. Excellent comment Ms Griffith.

I think I detect the glare of rose coloured specs in many of the comments.
My recollection of last year's election was that people had to vote for who they saw as the ‘least worst’ candidate.
Hillary was the known quantity, people had seen her in action as Secretary of State and against Trump she should have been a shoo-in. The fact that she wasn’t was entirely down to her own words and actions.
In their personalities and their politics Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump might not have much in common, but in the public eye they share one glaring characteristic: A lot of people don’t believe what they say.

    1. Exactly. The U.S. Had a choice between the plague and cholera. We got cholera and all that goes with it. Bill Clinton won because it was a new, dynamic voice at the time. Barack Obama won for the same reason. There's been a national temper tantrum for the past year in America, and that's 12 months wasted. However well Hillary comes off on BBC for her book tour ('What Happened'), it's just a louder chorus of the same golden oldie.

    2. Plague or cholera? What seems to be being ignored here is all-out crusade of smear that has gone on against her since the early 1990s. While Clinton may not be charismatic, she has provided a solid background of service. Plus, in the campaign, check out the figures: the media spent so much time covering "emails," and so little on her policies (or the buffoon's true record in business, etc.), that it was impossible for many voters to get a read on her. Granted, she may not be the ideal candidate, but when you consider that she won the popular vote in spite of all that was directed against her, she has little to ashamed of. Perhaps the book is her way of laying it to rest. I too desperately need a strong candidate to support, and hope one emerges soon, but I don't think Clinton is delaying that. She's made it clear that she has no future political aspirations. Think the real lesson of the election was that the media and the American public need to focus more on the records, the platforms and the policies of the candidates, and less on the bulls***, because when we don't, we get what we have now. Which ain't good. What an understatement. :)

  31. I am about one third of the way through her book. Not sure if I will finish it, there are only so many times I can read “I left the State department was one of the most admired public figures”, “I had a 68% approval rating”, “it was because I was a woman”, “it was the Russians”.

  32. The election just showed that people would rather believe the lies of a con-man snake oil salesman over a woman who was eminently qualified. She DID win the popular vote by almost 3 million, by the way. And, no, those votes didn't come from "illegal aliens" as the Toddler-in-Chief petulantly insists. His putting together a committee to investigate so-called election fraud is another "yuuge" waste of taxpayer dollars.

The prescience of H.L. Mencken, writing in 1920:

“As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”

― H.L. Mencken, On Politics: A Carnival of Buncombe

Jennifer, no need to worry about controversy here, this is in the main a Hillary-loving-follower blog. I wonder if she mentions Libya in her book. I suppose she will because she some how or other feels she can bask in glory at toppling Ghadafi. To hell with the consequences. Be thankful you are not at war with N Korea because if Hillary was in charge now you would be. She would think "what a great idea" and be patting herself on the back.

    1. I miss Michelle, too :( Her photographer is publishing a book of photos from the White House years, and just looking at them makes me happy. She and President Obama were always hugging, laughing together, holding hands, gazing into each others eyes - just looking happy and like they genuinely loved and liked one another. And she was affectionate with others, always touching their hands or hugging them. She had a wonderful, genuine big smile, and was so down-to-earth, intelligent, eloquent and well-spoken (imho) - I just loved her, and I miss seeing her in the public eye....

  41. OMG she was a horrible candidate and so was Donald Trump. Our country deserved and deserves better than either of these two atrocities. If the liberal US was not so bent on giving our country away to illegal immigrants and had chosen someone we could follow that was not promised the presidency by her rapist husband (who is actually quite delusional as he thinks he still has some power) maybe we'd have had two decent candidates to choose from. Neither of the two "choices" were worth a single vote. We need a strong leader who is younger and more energetic than either of those two, a person who is in the race for their country and not personal gain. I would have to ask HC "how the hell much money do you need?" And as for DT, why the run for presidency when, in fact, you're just looking for some attention. This has been and continues to be an abomination as HC still whines about who caused her to lose and DT still keeps wondering how he got into the White House and what he should do next. This whole thing is not a joke and we may all be going down with the ship. I would ask HC to go home and quit your whining and blame game and I'd ask DT to give up the presidency to Pence. We're in deep doo doo over here and I can only hope the Clinton c*nt does not try to run again. Where is the new blood? Why isn't anyone trying to do what's right as opposed to what will make money. What an effing country and I'm tempted to answer GW Bush when he says, "do ya miss me yet?" with a firm yes!

    ReplyDelete
  42. No one here (or anywhere else) will pay attention, but an entire generation of young adults actively campaigned for Bernie Sanders. They saw the former first lady as someone who'd been in the White House when they were babies, and therefore "old news". Those voters were disenfranchised in the last election and ignored. These same young adults had trouble finding jobs after college, carrying massive student loan debt. They've now been getting jobs. Able to launch (finally) into their productive years... and they're stepping away from a party they feel betrayed them. Two are my own sons. It's sad; cynicism came too early for them.

So folks can sing Hillary's praises all they want, but unless the DNC is willing to win back those voters by moving forward and getting on with it? Maybe all her fans should ask how long they want The Donald in office. It's time to stop throwing tantrums and get busy with a FRESH, positive message. 2020 will be here sooner than you realize.
