Deco

I'm just about to go to the cinema
The lovely old art deco Odeon in Chester has been transformed into
The Storyhouse- an arts centre of some note
The last time I went here was september 1984

  1. Has last night's bat sucked the life blood out of you? What happened? It died, didn't it? By accident. Too shy to fess up?

Anyway, enjoy the film. Hope it won't be a disaster.

  2. I love old brick buildings like that and I especially love that they are used again instead of torn down and replaced with ugly cheap things.

  3. I have to take my cats and runaway - this morning the horrible hurricane turned towards where I live. I hope to be back online in a few days/week and hope my home and computer are here waiting.

  4. Make sure you have zipped up your flyhole, removed nose cleaning strip and that you are not wearing your sexy Crocs. Such things don't go down too well in Chester.

  7. I did not know that people still called it the "cinema". Also, I did not know that there were any Art Deco buildings outside of London (where were is only one that I know of). Nice!

    1. There are many beautiful Art Deco buildings in the UK.
Morecambe, Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newport are just a few of the places with glorious architecture!

    2. I was going to say the same Col. There are many in this area too, including many lived in houses. As for going to the cinema, most of us here still say "going to the pictures", the cinema being far too modern!

  8. You certainly are getting around while the Prof is away - is it a case of 'while the cat's away?'

  9. At least they found a use for it, rather than just tearing it down. I can't stand it when beautiful old buildings are demolished.

  10. The news that a new cinema is opening or, as here, re-opening in another form, always gets me excited beyond measure. I can never wait to 'try it out'.

  15. Here within spitting distance of the River
Tyne there is a rather nice art deco cinema in Hexham about 25 miles from Newcastle. Rescued it is community run to keep it going. And JG your reviews have got me going back to the pictures too, so thank you and keep up the reviews.
