Batty

There is a bat in the bedroom.
I've opened the windows and shut the door on it and have left the little devil to escape but all four dogs are now lined up on the landing sniffing under the bedroom door like drug addicts at a coke party.
I think Albert brought it in but heaven knows how he caught it.
No peace tonight

  1. I was gonna say I bet Albert brought it in. My cats do. The bat usually ends up crouched in a corner and I pick them up with a duster and whoosh them outside again. Once the bat is presented indoors the cats aren't interested anymore.

    1. I'll leave it another half hour before I find a duster. The terriers are hysterical....it's the squeaking

  3. We get bats in our house sometimes. They young ones come down the chimneys where their mothers raise them. They generally fly into the curtains to cling and oh, as much I know I should love them, I simply cannot. I cry if no one is here but me and I am not brave.

  4. That squeak is very, very penetrating isn't it?

  5. It's not likely to escape on its own.....you'll have to assist it. It's called a 'towel rescue' lol. Those little devils can squeeze into a pretty small space.

  11. There is a bat that sleeps on our driveway! My son showed me a picture he had taken at 0630 on his way to work. It sleeps next to my vehicle.

I could have lived without knowing this.

  13. OMG. You have the most interesting life on the internet. And I am in the wrong fucking time zone to get in on all of it.

  14. You're going to go back in there tomorrow morning and find two bats, once word gets around that your window is open and your house is comfortable.

I'm kidding (I hope). Looking forward to how this ends.

  15. FYI, that bat just might limbo right under the door. I stood in our hall in horror one semi-hysterical evening and watched one do just that. Three years later, still a little PTSD here from waking up to one in the room.

  16. You gotta get it with a frying pan. In mid-air. I did that once. I may have to write it.

  17. Years ago, we lived in an older home that had bats in the attic. They would fly out at dusk in a predictable flight pattern. Our cat would lie in wait where they had to dip under a lilac tree, and then leap into the air and knock them down with his paw. My husband would pick them up and toss them in the air and they would fly away again. Try not to kill the bat if you can - they really are beneficial little creatures. Likely not very beneficial in your house, though. -Jenn

  18. In the summer when all bedroom windows are thrown open, we often have them coming in. They're quite cute little creatures and do no harm.

  19. I hate when that happens. When it does, I throw all the windows open and shoo the bat out. It can take a while. Once I grabbed a t-shirt to swing around in the air. The shirt caught the bat and slammed it to the floor. I picked the creature up and tossed it out the window. The "thud" when the poor thing hit the deck below was heart wrenching.

  20. Did it manage to get out by itself?

  21. It's their fussing, fretting, fluttering around to fly out that frighten me! The positive side is, they feed on mosquitoes.
I hope you managed to get it out.

  25. I watched the Irish gentleman trying to catch the bat . . . so funny and its the face at the glass door that gets me every time. I would have been half way down the road, the one thing that terrifies me is bats. I do not like mice but flying mice is my idea of hell. Turn off the lights and I gather it calms them down, but I do not have any proof of this. Love Andie xxx

  26. Oh how scary. A bat flew in an open window at a friend's house, it bit her son on the abdomen and he had to have a series of rabies shots. Is it still there?

  27. There's a funny video on fb at the mo, about a family catching a bat.😁They terrify me 😣

  28. I hope you got it out safely. They are useful little creatures, and mostly frightened inside. People who rehab them when they are found injured on the ground say that their wings are fairly fragile -- amazing that Albert didn't hurt him.

  29. Bats are very legally protected in the UK. Once in what I would like to call a rather sacred space, the garden of a dear friend and mentor who passed away I was sitting at the bottom of the garden remembering as you do, when dusk set in,the garden was shaped like an amphitheatre and as I made my way back to the the lights of the house about half way up I paused and the bats came out and flew gently round and round me, with the house lights I could look down on their little brown leather wings they never touched me (they wouldnt) as they flew around and around maybe 50 or even 100 lots, quite breathtaking. Dont be scared just let them be.

  30. Bats 🦇 give me an eerie feeling. My Mom and I owned a house together and a few times while we lived there a bat would fly around and scare me! The gamer always got them with a blanket and released them. The cats had a hay day!🤣Yes, they are very helpful with mosquitoes. I can just imagine the dogs watching the bat fly around.

  31. The correct way to get a bat out out of a room is simply to open all Windows, and outer doors and turn the lights off. Their echo location will guide them out into the fresh air.
