Today is the Prof's birthday.
He's working away in London overnight.
I got up at 5.30 , made him tea and presented him with his cards in bed before I was even awake.
He seemed to like my gift of tickets to Swan Lake at The Royal Opera House .
I dropped him off at the train station before 7 am and packed him off with a small bag of goodies from Marks.
I went to Marks and Spencers yesterday and conscripted the jaunty Angela into my quest to set up the Prof with some birthday goodies. Initially I only asked the saleswoman if she had any miniature cakes ( the Prof like me is healthy eating) but after learning I was collecting a birthday goodie bag she warmed to our quest and helped me dig out a few choice bits and bobs which included miniature chocolate bars, little bottle of wine, a bag of nuts(!) birthday candles and the like. For a minute she disappeared excitedly into the card section and returned with a small multicoloured mass of birthday streamers and a classy party bag to complete the ensemble and then ooohhed enthusiastically when I showed her some posh moisturiser I had bought to beef up the gift!
Middle aged ladies do love a gay shopping drama!
Happy Birthday to Chris! The goody bag was a lovely idea.
ReplyDeleteWe all do. Happy birthday to the Prof.
ReplyDeletehappy birthday prof and many more!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Prof! You are such a sweetie to look after him the way you do...
ReplyDeleteYour "jaunty Angela" is worth her weight in gold. By the way it's also the birthday of Bing Crosby.
ReplyDeleteOh what fun. Happy birthday to Prof. Let it be a marvelous day.
ReplyDeleteI wish you had made one of your famous typos with the title of this post...
ReplyDeletePoof!
DeleteYes!!!
DeleteHappy Birthday to Chris!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun surprise for him. Happy Birthday, Chris!
ReplyDeleteYou mean, he missed being born on Star Wars Day by ONE DAY????? :D Happy Birthday, Prof. xx
ReplyDeleteOh boy, that man is spoiled like I can only imagine!
ReplyDeletewhich reflects well on you both. Enjoy!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHRIS! a bag of nuts, hmmmm...and tickets to swan lake; fabulous!
ReplyDeleteA very Happy Birthday to Chris! May his day be filled with sunshine.
ReplyDeleteNewly married see. My husband used to do things like that for my birthday. Skip forward a few decades and when I turned 50 he bought me a pair of waterproof trousers.....nothing says 'I love you' like waterproof trousers....
ReplyDeletehmmmmmmm.... I bought the hubby a pair for Christmas. I think I need to change tack...
DeleteI too, have been the recipient of a pair of waterproof trousers for a recent Christmas present.
DeleteNo wonder we all congregate here. I think this blog should be renamed. 'Going Gently in Waterproof Trousers'
lol!
DeleteVery thoughtful! Happy birthday to the Prof!! It is also my daughter's birthday today (she is the ripe old age of 21). -Jenn
ReplyDeleteSweet . . . love it when I can enjoy dreaming up something to help a celebration as much as I do being celebrated . . . .
ReplyDeleteJaunty Angela no doubt found it to be a really fun birthday plan as well!
Happy Birthday Prof!
It's nice to receive a gift for 'later' as it makes the birthday go on....love the bag of goodies, too. "Happy Birthday, Prof"
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Chris!
ReplyDeleteSad that he was not with you for the whole day
"Middle aged ladies"? My best memories from being 20 yrs old and shopping in San Francisco , with my gay hairdresser friend and his friend .. I think when it comes to shopping, all ladies like shopping dramas ~
ReplyDeleteK! LOL!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to the Prof! That gift bag looks awesome, and it sounds like you had a fab time with the shopping drama. I personally hate to shop, and only do so under duress.
ReplyDeleteCan you have a word with Lady Magnon; she could use some tips!
ReplyDeleteThe Prof does seem to have rather a lot of birthdays - I can't believe it is really a year since his last one.
ReplyDeleteOur birthdays come around faster, the older we get. I can vouch for that fact :)
DeleteI can just picture you two in bed too. You probably shook the bed hard, waking the professor, and you said " Oh your awake already!" May you both have a lovely day celebrating your loves life. You are a sweet man.
ReplyDeleteAge? Need to know as I'm a nosy cow, also a poet though I don't know it.
ReplyDelete48
Delete48? such a young one!
Deletea mere babe ~
DeleteHappy Birthday to the professor!
ReplyDeleteYou've spoiled him royally...I hope he does the same for you.
ReplyDeleteOh, you spoil that man! Happy Birthday, Professor!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to the Professor. May he have many more.
ReplyDeleteHappiest of birthdays to the darling boy. Our love to you both....always. N, G, GB & M xxxx
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Chris.
ReplyDeleteYou have 2 years to plan for the big five oh! Can't wait to see what you come up with. I'm sure it will be fab!
ReplyDeleteWishing the Professor a very Happy Birthday.
ReplyDeleteIf the prof doesn't want to go to see swan lake I will go with you. I will even supply the goody bag..... Oh and wish the Prof a very happy birthday. x
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, Prof.
ReplyDeleteWhy, yes we do! Happy birthday, Professor, you lucky devil, you!
ReplyDeleteMany happy returns to the Prof, and such a lovely thoughtful present that goody bag was. It brought back memories of my 21st ( that was THE big birthday before it changed to 18th ) it was our first wedding anniversary, our first baby was due a week later and my 21st. Somebody had suggested I'd probably get an eternity ring because of the three big celebrations and the more I thought about it the bigger the stones in this ring became and on the big day..........( drum roll ) ...I got a non stick frying pan, which to make matters worse I learnt had fallen off the back of a lorry !! Years later we still laugh about it and yes I did get my ring the following year and that pan is still going 40 years on..
ReplyDeleteThis made me chuckle
DeleteMade me LOL ... My mother never got over getting a new coffee maker one year for their anniversary.
DeleteI was lucky, I married a man who loved to buy presents. And he had excellent taste.
Too funny! I'm glad to hear your marriage survived and thrived in spite of it!
DeleteGood to read tweetart's romantic special birthday gift, made me feel so much better! My hubby is the practical sort too and I have had those gifts that you 'need' like a paring knife & I kinda thought of using it s l o w l y!! Even my dear Mum bought me a jerry can for my 40th so I could buy & hide my own back up fuel (living in the sticks fuel was often siphoned to feed the tractor) So I think the Prof is well spoiled. These days a cup of tea in bed is my best bet for a birthday surprise but thats fine..I'm safe & warm in my castle with my menagerie & alls good
DeleteHappy birthday Prof!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to The Prof; obviously currygate has been forgiven.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to the Swan Lake review already! Is it your favourite ballet?
Not mine, but his....i prefer Mathew Bourne
DeleteHe doesn't know me but Many Happy Returns.
ReplyDeleteYes we do. Wish him happy birthday from us here in California.
ReplyDeleteSo sweet. Happy BD Prof.
ReplyDeleteYes, yes we do. What fun!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Prof! I hope you liked the goody bag that John got made up for you! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday Prof. I took husband to see Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake a few years ago, we were quite startled to see how few hetero couples there seemed to be in the audience. Mind you, daughter's gay BFF says that we are the gayest family he knows and doesn't even qualify it by saying gayest straight family!
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun gift for the Prof and what a fabulous helper .
ReplyDeleteLet there be Cake !
cheers, parsnip
🎈Happy birthday Prof! John, your gift was so thoughtful.
ReplyDeleteHappy 48th to the Prof!! Wonderful little gift bag and I hope you both enjoy the ballet. Cheers from sunny Florida.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday. Many more years of health and happiness to the Prof and to you as well.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your beloved and many happy returns to you both!
ReplyDeleteHmm. I'll be using your idea for my husband's next birthday - the goody bag, that is. He wouldn't know what to make of Swan Lake tickets! Happy Birthday to the Prof, and I see several of us or our close relatives share his birthday. I guess it's not surprising, there are only so many days in the year :)
ReplyDeleteGive a man food! Always works
DeleteIs it too late to tell you when my birthday is...
ReplyDeleteA very happy birthday to the Prof. That goody bag would be very welcome any day. Or do I mean every day.
ReplyDeleteConsumable gifts are the best. No dusting needed, except the tip of a napkin on the face.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your love.
I was so into the presents, I totally forgot to wish HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! to the Prof.!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to the man you love!
ReplyDelete(And by the way, I think women of all ages live a good shopping trip with a sweet gay man.)
Happy Birthday to the Prof!! You are right! We do enjoy a good shopping drama.
ReplyDeleteWay to go Angela!!!
ReplyDeleteA lovey goody bag, I bet he was chuffed to bits. I hope he had a lovely day. xx
ReplyDeleteAll the best, Chris!
ReplyDeleteAs a lady of a certain age, I can confirm that we do indeed - happy belated birthday to the Prof x
ReplyDeleteYes we do, but we also like helping husbands put gifts together for their wives. We like vicarious gift giving. One of the best things about Christmas in the shop. We do the gift wrapping a bit shit so the wife might believe they did it themselves lol
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday I'm sure it was made special by a certain special guy.
