Spring

The light in the lane got fixed yesterday which was a shame.
I loved the fact that the cottage sat in total darkness during the night.
I've never slept so well.
A man in overalls was tinkering behind his van when Winnie spied him through the window, and I let her into the front garden so she could watch him carefully from the gate as he climbed into his cherry picker and repaired the light.
She blew bulldog kisses at him and hyperventilated.
I called up to asked if he would say hello to her when he had finished and true to his word he did and I wasn't surprised that, as he reached through the bars on the gate, she rolled onto her side to show him her suture line in a shameless attempt to court sympathy
" She's just had a hysterectomy " I told him.
He looked impressed.
" So's the wife" he replied

Neighbour Trevor had asked if I could remove " a little bit of moss" from his driveway the other day, so seeing that it was a sunny spring day I turned up with a hoe to find several hundred square feet needed clearing.
Hey ho ( hey hoe) I managed to get the majority done which was a harder job than it looked, but I was happy that Trevor had offered me " the going rate" for a job well executed.
I earned only a fiver short of my hourly rate as an intensive care nurse! Go figure that one!

Mrs James called down, as I was working,  to ask if  could publicize her table top sale in the memorial hall on Saturday morning. All proceeds are going to a Parkinson's Charity.
Job's done!

The weather has changed for the better..... as I worked I spied 8 buzzards flying in lazy circles in the blue sky above the Gop they seem to herald the start of spring.

  2. how is winnie feeling this week?

funny, but when I had MY hysto surgery (1989), I showed NO ONE. I felt like a carved slice of beef and my ex-husband was repulsed by the scar.

    2. Your POS ex husband will meet Mr Karma and end up with something that he doesn't want anyone to see .. he is repulsive without a scar imo.

  4. Sunny spring days have sprung here in the South as well, warmer weather a little earlier this year. It's looking like we are going to be in for a "HOT" summer. Winnie is looking good!

  5. I can't read about overalls without thinking of Mrs Overall.

I see the average salary for an intensive care nurse is £25,400. They deserve a lot more than that for the incredibly responsible job they're doing.

"ccording to May 2015 data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the average annual salary for a critical care nurse was
      ***$98,190.***
The bottom 10% of critical care nurses earned an average of $70,540 a year, while the top-10% of ICU's earned $135,830 annually.''

  6. Winnie seems to have bounced back quickly. After a hysterectomy, I would have taken to my bed for a week (at least).

  7. Glad to see Winnie's doing well.
Overalls always remind me of Mr. Greenjeans on the Captain Kangaroo show as a child. :-)

  8. I feel like Winnie most days ... watching through the gate for someone to stop and say hello, pat me on the head .. remind me there are other people on the planet ..

  12. Winnie simply lurves attention. Unusual for a garden feature - among which she cannot be bettered.

  13. I love that you are so attentive to Winnie's needs. You are a good man.

  14. So....perhaps a new career path?

  15. You need a rota of workmen through the lane to keep Winnie happy!

  16. I know what you mean about darkness for sleeping... We retired out in the country for peace and quiet and we enjoy the darkness at night... We talk of having our streetlight removed... where we are at that possible.. Our neighbor though looks like FT Knox with all the lights he has... crazy to move in the country then light it up.. what are they afraid of? Thankfully there is a line of trees between us that keeps down the glare...

How wonderful that you get paid for odd jobs... hubby hasn't figured out that trick yet...he does the work but no $$ lol

Good ole' Winnie she must be feeling better!! So nice of you to think to ask the overalls to pet her...

The Four Brothers Grimm have been by this morning to eat birdseed and splash around in the birdbath... They are 4 crows that visit once or twice a week... Only ever 4 and only once in a while not every day... I hope you've had a great day John... I'm off to start mine... Hugs! deb

  17. This is like a little 'The News Headlines from around Trelawnyd' post :-)

I'm glad Winnie's doing well, and that she got the chance to show off her scar to someone that appreciated what she's been through ;-)

  18. Its good to see her up and about. John, this could be your retirement from nursing..being the village handyman! It would keep you a little busy, take Winnie with you and she could schmooze and get pets from all the neighbors you service. It's a win-win situation.

  19. It's nice that Trevor doesn't take your help for granted, and is generously appreciative.

My elderly neighbour always insists on 'rewarding' me whenever I help out, no matter how small the task. It's become a ritual now: I do 'whatever', and the following day a bag, containing my 'reward', appears on the fence. Yesterday, it was a cauliflower. Lol.

Good to see a perked-up Winnie blowing kisses.

  22. I used to think that the perfect night was a moonless night with the power out. Now, I can sleep in broad daylight.
Yellow signs of spring in your front garden!

  23. I didn't have a suture line to show after mine (it was done laparoscopically) but I certainly wasn't as perky as Winnie looks here this soon after surgery. More power to you, girl!

  24. Good for Winnie. After all the heart-searching in past years about her having the op., she's certainly recovered quickly and in fine form !

  25. What a shame the light's been fixed ... are you tempted to practice your slingshot technique out there? Over her in 'New Zild' they will put a skirt on a light if it is facing bedroom windows - perhaps they would shield you from it ... but the slingshot seems the better bet!

I'm so glad Winnie is back to her best form - she is A Madam, isn't she! Quite charming.

And you're a Good Guy hoeing your neighbour's driveway - the energy expended earns you a free Scotch Egg!!

  26. John, if you reeeeeally loved Winnie you would buy a few pairs of overalls and wear them all the time :)

    2. Do you think the streetlight man married a bulldog?
    3. Instead of tinkering behind his van couldn't he have used your bathroom?

  32. Good to see the Winnie enjoying life.
It may not be the right thing to do but slingshot practice could go awry...oops bung light!

  34. That reminds me of a friend who asked if I could help with some cleaning in her kitchen. When I arrived I found that it was her pressure cooker that had exploded, and every surface was covered with thick 'soup'. I wasn't offered any going rate!

  35. Winnie is in good company; my hysterectomy scar is hidden under my belly & I can't see it ! It's the gall stone one I hate - they went through my belly button & it just doesn't feel right !

  36. Your stories about Winnie, after that ordeal, fill my heart with joy. But she's such a floozy. I would never be that obvious when trying to catch a glimpse of overalls.

  37. Reading about your pets and their quirks makes me wonder whether I ought to give in to husbear's desire for a Welsh Corgi. I'm retiring 03/31 - my sometdiddy something birthday, No it's NOT 65 and it's not 62. I saved up enough money to live off for a year until I start collecting US unSocial inSecurity and I've run out of bullshit at work. It's time to pull weeds and pinch pennies for a year. I think I ought to wait a year or so, to see what volunteer things I get involved with. Husbear would go off to work and I'd be caring for the dog.
