News

I popped in to Tescos this morning and when I was perusing the cheese counter a woman I didn't know tapped me on the shoulder and asked " Is Winnie ok?"
Such is the power of bulldogs.

The vet rang me at 2.30 to tell me that Winnie had pulled through the operation and the anaesthetic.
" Are you happy with her" I asked
" Yes, she's still breathing" was the pragmatic reply.
The sweet receptionist was more effusive " She's blew me a kiss" she told me in full giggly mode.

Hey ho

Around where I live the common greeting is "Hi, how are you?". When I first moved here I would always give an honest answer. Then I realised that nobody really listened to the answer, it was just a greeting, and the expected response is "I'm good".

So, now when someone say's "Hi, how are you?". I sometimes reply "miserable as usual". To which the response is frequently "well that's good to hear".

    3. My father's answer to this was "Upright and moving forward." Which I've always rather liked.

That's wonderful; thanks for the update. Next comes the challenge of trying to keep an Elizabethan collar on an ... ahem ... oddly-shaped dog. With a younger dog around who I'm sure would just love to help the old girl get the blasted thing off! Best wishes to Winnie for an uneventful post-op period.

  60. So sorry to read this (belately, having been away at a funeral). Our lovely old Doberman X, Tara, had Pyometra aged 12, had the op, and was waiting for us in reception when we came to collect her. She jumped up and put her paws on my chest, delighted to see me. Blardy hell, I wouldn't do that after a hysterectomy! I am sure Winnie will pull through and as the vet said, she's still breathing . . . I hope she is home with you and on the mend soon.

Good to read the little beauty got through the op ....with her following, I was most disappointed that there wasn't a BBC Wales news team outside the vets giving up to the minute news on her condition ....I will be writing a strongly worded letter to the Director General to convey mine and many others disgust that this most eminent of personalities was blatantly disregarded for her 'news worthiness '

  88. Finally! I have been so utterly distracted that a friend who was on the phone asked me if I was alright and I said I am wondering how Winnie is doing. After a moment of silence quiet carefully she said "who is Winnie?" Some people are just so dense, I guess I was sure by now the whole world knows who Winnie is. And they should.

  125. Just a PS: Someone above mentioned the wearing of the post operative "cone of shame". I don't know if your vet stocks these snazzy post-operative suits, but this was what I used for my dog when she had surgery for pyometra. It meant that she could not get at the stitches as well as keeping the area clean while she healed and it was easy to just pop in the wash when it got a bit grubby. She was still able to do her business with the suit on and while people do stare, it is far more comfortable for the doggy than those awful plastic cones. And let's face it, Winifred is NOT a person who wears plastic - she's far too classy :)
