Doris

Doris has turned out to be a bit of a bitch.
The electricity has been off a couple of times and in the Churchyard one of the trees splint almost in half and has crashed to the ground.
Winnie took one look at the horizontal rain and promptly ran back into the kitchen to have a piss on a rug.
Her expression said it all
" you've got to be fucking kidding"

  2. Doris is in Sheffield too so we are off to The Showroom to see the lunchtime screening of "Manchester By The Sea". When we leave the cinema, we expect to encounter Sheffield-on-Sea.

  3. If i were winnie I'd piss on the rug, too! I saw the storm refered to as Doris Day!

    1. On one of our channels (a more 'respected' one) the newsreader referred to the LATE Hollywood actress, Doris Day. Sacrilege! - though he did apologise later. But whenever she goes, which can't be long now, she must be a shoo-in for direct sainthoood.

  4. That was pretty much the Nu's expression as she peered out the door into a facefull of wind and rain - I didn't laugh - honest!

  7. Doris has been a whole lot of nothing for us, at least so far. We got one burst of heavy rain this morning and that's been about it from what I can tell.

  12. I opened the door for Heidi cat to go out. She stepped outside for a nano second and was soon back in. I ain't going out there, she said, and went straight to the litter box. Perhaps you could train Winnie to use one.

    2. I was terrified by the Hurricane warnings we got recently. I have been lucky enough to be in NY or BA when there were big named storms in the US ... but now, of all times, when I am alone and cowardly, I am in the land of Hurricanes.
The good news is that the TV Weathermen get slightly hysterical and it rarely is as bad as it sounds ..
Get everything inside, so the wind can't blow it over or into a window and snuggle in with the pups and kitties.

  15. Humphrey went to the catflap, harrumphed and looked at me accusingly then marched to the front door whining for it to be opened as if he somehow expected it to be different out there. For once I ignored him [only because I've played before] Bleedin' feline! Arilx

  25. I saw that when I walked the dogs past the graveyard .....i also noticed yor old fireplace outside the backdoor .....its fair to say that some of the artefacts retrieved from the Titanic had stood the test of time better than that thing ...

  26. I was up at 3.10am looking for the foot of snow we were threatened with. Not a snowflake to be seen. Lots of rain this morning though and that's been it. Sorry for those folks affected by Doris.

  27. Anonymous8:19 pm

Plenty of broken trees in Cambridge area and a handful of knackered but determined cyclists. Doris turned out to be about as scary as she sounds.

  31. We lost the roof off the shed, which is more than a tad inconvenient, as it's husband's woodworking area. He's still out there now, covering as much stuff as he can with plastic sheeting, the house is full of wood, tools, etc, but there just isn't room for all of it. Tomorrow morning he'll be up replacing the roof!
We also have a Monkey Puzzle tree in a very large and heavy pot, it blew over and took a few branches from the Japanese Maple which I've had for over thirty years!
I'm looking forward to a night's sleep, didn't sleep much last night due to the noise of the wind in the trees which are a bit too close to the bedroom windows for my liking!

  34. We had a cat who could cross her legs for days! I swear it! But I thought dogs were made of sterner stuff. Perhaps it's time to invest in an indoor system John?

  37. Poor Winnie - I don't blame her !
We once had a dog who went 29 hours without going outside. He hated thunder and lightening and there was one hell of a storm. He just crossed all his legs and held his breath - amazing that he didn't rush out once it had all stopped !!!
