Fads

At 12.58am I stopped at the petrol station on the way home from my shift to buy bread and a sneaky bar of chocolate.
The checkout guy was being interviewed by a policeman when I got there
Apparently, half an hour previously a clown in a boiler suit had walked carefully up to the payment window and had waved a " bloodstained " cardboard knife at him before walking very slowly away.

I put the central locking on when I drove away, and ran down a very dark path like a teenage girl when I got home

  1. Clowns are creepy at the best of times. I wouldn't want to meet one in the dark, with or without a cardboard knife. -Jenn (Odd phenomenon, though)

  4. Sigh.
Clown mania has landed over here too.
And I have never, ever been comfortable with them. Not funny. Never funny.
    Sad and/or creepy.

  5. Just as long as the clown doesn't resemble a workman or repair person, you should be fine. Your animals will protect you. I'd put my money on Albert. -Jenn

  6. That is so bizarre. There were reports this summer of clowns harassing people and trying to lure children into the woods in several states. Goddamn clowns.
I would probably put my money on Albert too. Make sure he sleeps between you and the door. That's what I used to do when my husband was away and we still had our (elderly and missing one eye) dog. I still felt better with her there.

  10. The last clown I liked was Ronald McDonald.

This clown thing seems to be world-wide. Some people said they saw one in our little town but he/she was never caught so I wonder if some of these sightings are real or not.

  15. kids are so impressionable. they are so desperate to be liked on facebook and youtube they will do anything. Its very sad.

They wont stop as they think it is funny. Someone will have a heart attack from being frightened.

The one that scared me just from the picture was the clown hiding behind the mac donalds drive through sign. Can you imagine, having the window down on the car to order and a clown jumps from behind the window as you order. silly silly kids.

  16. Just remind me - why am I supposed to be scared of a badly dressed clown with a cardboard knife? Not funny, not scary - it must be a pretty miserable life being a clown don't you think?

  17. What a sad world we live in.
I've never liked clowns either - there is something so creepy about them. The dogs will do a good job protecting you, John. Just let Winnie at any clown you see - she'll soon frighten them off !

  19. A man was attacked by someone dressed as a clown on Friday in Bournemouth just down the road. This is a horrible sick fad. There are lots of fake ones on facebook. I think it's all due to the re-make of Steven King's "It". I've just looked it up; the clown is called Pennywise.

  20. There was a clip on our local news last night of a clown jumping out from behind a wall on folk. He made most people jump but they just kept walking. One man (a big, tough looking guy) stopped and confronted the clown, who immediately tore the mask from his face and demonstrated that the knife was cardboard - he looked scared stiff. The farmer said the other guy should have thumped him, but the chap certainly gave the clown a fright by standing up to him.

  26. Clowns are macabre at the best of times. But I guess they can't run too fast with those big feet.

  27. I gather bona fide clowns who actually make a living out of it are worried these bogus clowns will discredit them and drive them out of a job. Can't say I'm keen on clowns myself but threatening someone's livelihood is not funny.

  28. I was driving to the shops last week and saw Spiderman at the side of the road! I was so startled when he waved nearly drove into a ditch. Then I saw 2 more - promoting a pizza place, why? Was Spiderman a pizza fan - surely if he was he wouldn't be able to scale walls due to obesity. I hate clowns and if any come near me I will belt em with my brolley and deal with the arrest for GBH later. I dont think any one would blame me.

  30. My cousin had a scary clown jump out in front of his car last weekend, so he revved it and aimed straight at the idiot! It's probably a good thing that the clown jumped out of the way, but it would have been better to hit him than careen into someone innocent! '
If a scary clown comes near me I shall beat him to death with whatever comes to hand!
I'm utterly sick, tired and fed up of idiots thinking they can do whatever, whenever and to whomever they want with no repercussions!
Time to take our way of life back methinks, by force if necessary!

Gentle chiding is in order, John. Fourteen year old girls do not run down a dark alley. Or at least this one didn't, not even when I was seventeen. One does have dignity.

Whilst undoubtedly unpleasant when someone jumps you (I have been "relieved" of my goods twice within the last few days - don't ask, I am fine, no physical harm, even a church mouse is now better off than me) I don't understand the hysteria. Or to put it more mildly, and it makes you think: Grown adults frightened of a mask? I am not poo pooing it since you don't know who is behind the mask and what their intention is. It sure isn't funny. I, usually absent minded, jump out of my skin when someone suddenly appears in the corridor of my abode. Not only is he the Angel, he looks like an Angel. "I live here", he says.

Spare a thought for Carnival in Venice, John. Oh, My, God.

  35. Its creepy because the clowns have such menacing, ugly faces and they carry weapons and act in very aggressive ways. They're chasing people with machetes and luring kids with candy. Its not funny, and I believe someone is going to get hurt. Its seems to be going on everywhere.

Hoping that this clown fad fades soon.
