In a position of absolute power, George slept between the Prof and I last night.
An old dog, with tired black button eyes.
A loyal old boy who asks for nothing.
Who demands nothing
And who is happy with his lot.
An old dog is near perfection
Btw.....I have a ghost story to share tomorrow! .......
An old dog is the best dog,
ReplyDeleteA dog with rheumy eyes;
An old dog is the best dog
A dog grown sad and wise,
Not one who snaps at bubbles,
Nor one who barks at nowt,
A dog who knows your troubles,
A dog to see you out.
Thank you for this, it is just how I feel about my old boy.

Nicely written YP X
DeleteI must admit that it's not by me.
DeleteOh! That is so wonderful as I have an old dog myself. I see her slowing down and losing teeth, but she still smiles in that doggie way and is the happiest thing.
DeleteI was about to make a crack about sleeping with old dogs, but thought better of it.
ReplyDeleteThat was a long time ago, and I don't want reminding!
DeleteI was thinking about myself...
DeleteAh. That would be a pack of old dogs then
DeleteThey're still baying.
DeleteDo tell!!
DeleteI love the hand just lightly touching his head; and the look of complete bliss. Love Andie xxx
ReplyDeleteA lovely tribute to your lovely boy
ReplyDelete<3
furkids are completely devoted to their humans.
ReplyDeleteI prefer mellow old dogs.
ReplyDeleteI refer to Tom stephenson's remark x
DeleteNo such thing.
DeleteMy favourite of your pack. Bless him.
ReplyDeleteThat incredibly powerful time beginning when an old dog shows the first signs that life isn't forever until they begin the the last stages of their existence is the best...and the worst.
ReplyDeleteI have a 17 year old foster/hospice gal now. Had her almost 3 months and I can't believe how quickly she's gotten under my skin. She sleeps mostly except before meals when she lets me know in no uncertain terms that I best feed her RIGHT now (even if that's 1am lol). Swear this old girl has a clock in her stomach!!
A quote I've always remembered at times like this:
"Love knows not its own depths until the hour of separation "~Gibran
Donna
Very soulful eyes....full of love. Sweet George.
ReplyDeleteBless him, he is so dear ..
ReplyDeleteUnconditional love x
ReplyDeleteLovely George. By the way, I just followed you John despite thinking I was already following all these years!!! X
ReplyDelete40 to go!
DeleteI've always had a penchant for dogs with greying muzzles.
ReplyDeleteI wish they would look for the same in us.
DeleteOh bless - we have an old ginger tom cat with kidney probs. I dread the day when he goes to the cattery in the sky. I hate it when they get old and you know they havent long for this earth. Cherish every moment - i know you do - you can see those doggies and the confused kitty and loved and spoiled.
ReplyDeleteAnd why pray do we have to wait till tomorrow for ghost story?
Yours Impatient of London :(
I really love the way your dogs are an absolute part of your family. Never seen more loved dogs in all my life - I hope they realise just how lucky they are. Doesn't he have the sweetest, most trusting look on his face.
ReplyDelete39 to go!
ReplyDelete38!!!!
DeleteCouldn't help thinking of my own dear Blackso, bless both him and George! With old pets there's an uncanny feeling I get that they've got something important to say if it weren't for their inability to say it. Their looks tell of a resigned wisdom inside.
ReplyDeleteYes, like an old soul. My brother swears that his dog is our dad reincarnated.
DeleteCan't wait for the ghost story!
Sweet sweet lovely old pup

ReplyDeleteGeorge is precious!
ReplyDeleteI love ghost stories - and will eagerly await your tale.

ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely photo of George, John - what a sweetheart he is. Old dogs are definitely the best.
ReplyDeleteGeorge is my favorite, as you know. Old dogs are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteWatson my Brindled Scotty, love Adam the best and was always in his room. When younger usually slept with Adam. But the last years of his life he started to sleep on my bed. That lovely old face with the white all around his eyes. I miss him so much.
ReplyDeleteI see that with George. The all knowing eyes. The sweet disposition. He is a treasure.
Thank you for the lovely post today.
cheers, parsnip
Sweet, sweet George, he's such a love!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful old boy and such loving devotion in his eyes as he looks at you. A kiss on the top of the head for sweet, old George.
ReplyDeleteAh, John, there you go, making my eyes water again ... George is a sweetheart, but old George is a heartbreaker.
ReplyDeleteI always love to read about your pets and everything around your life! And let me say, I'm VERY glad you continue your blog! I couldn't say that earlier, but I have to do it! I have been on holiday and my iPhone doesn't let me send comments.
ReplyDeleteMade me cry, our old Scottie Maggie passed away last July. She was so sweet and funny...best dog we ever had. We still have Pearl, her half-sister, not quite as laid back! Love Your blog, please continue! ( And George looks so cute with his short hair-do!) Best to you and yours.....
ReplyDeleteGreat name for a. Scottie.....our Scottie bitch was called Maddie!
DeleteBeautiful.
ReplyDelete34!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy mother brought me to your blog a while back, because of George. WE are Scottie people have had many since I was a youngling. I love reading about all of your critters, John, but George is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteThe only thing an old dog can do is give love and they do that with all their heart.
ReplyDelete33!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSeems to me that you and yours have a very sweet life there. Not without its challenges, disappointments, upsetting surprises...including them all does not distract from the sweetness.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes.
Will there be fireworks in Trelawnyd at 1000, John!!
ReplyDeleteContented George.
There will be sex, fireworks and wine jimbo!
DeleteGorgeous George ❤
ReplyDeleteI have always loved old dogs and now I know why, as you said, "An old dog is near perfection". So very true!
ReplyDeleteNy oldest girl is 15 years old mostly deaf and half blind. She cannot jump on the furniture without help and her ability to hold her urine has drastically diminished. She has to sleep on several throws as she lets out a little pee just about all the time. She still loves to eat and will play once a week. She is not long for this world and my job is to make her remaining days as comfortable as possible with as much love as I can give her. i have a feeling she will stay on a few more years...
ReplyDeleteThe vet might be able to hep with pee. It is just a little bit of hormone in a tablet.
DeleteThere is indeed something very special about an old dog.
ReplyDeleteMine get more precious to me with every year that passes. How anyone can dump an old dog for a puppy is beyond me.
ReplyDelete31!
DeleteAwww, George!
ReplyDeleteHe is simply wonderful :-)
ReplyDeleteRosy looked at me with old eyes the other day and I realised that she is now 7.5, where have those years gone.
What a sweet picture. I wish I could give him a little kiss on the head.
ReplyDeleteG'night George.xxx
ReplyDeleteAwww I love a dog with silver chops
ReplyDeleteNever were truer words blogged!
ReplyDeleteI like people who are kind to old dogs . . .
ReplyDeleteLovely photo of sweet George may he have many more years left.
