First Proper Snog

I was listening to the radio yesterday afternoon ( squirting anti-inflammatory liquid down Mary's ears!) when this song came on the radio.

Immediately I was taken back to a grubby staff club at the West Cheshire Psychiatric Hospital in Chester...circa 1985.
It was around 11.30pm and I was standing in the small foyer waiting for friends to come out slightly worse for wear. The door to the club opened and this music was playing as a rather drunk staff nurse I had been working with a few months before passed me. He hugged me in way of greeting and unexpectedly kissed me on the lips .
Out of the blue I returned the kiss a second time.....which surprised both of us and I was suddenly left with the notion that I kinda liked it......

Whenever I put together an 80s compilation, that song always finds its way in there somewhere.

  14. How very sweet! Our niece told us her own first proper song memory a while back. She'd been married to a nice man, went out dancing with friends and got a nice kiss from a woman. "Oh," she thought, "This is what it's supposed to feel like." Also, my own first kiss was from an adorable young blond gay bartender in a gay bar in San Diego, and it's a kind memory I hope I'll never forget. He was a dear!

  15. This rings no bells at all with me. I see it got to #15 in, as you say, 1985.

  16. Being a clueless American, I had to look up the definition of "snog".
Being from Los Angeles, I initially thought your post title was about air pollution.

  17. My first kiss came after a rather fancy dance thing and I was leaning up against my best friend's mom's Lincoln Continental in the parking lot and a fella I liked a lot whom everyone called Mafia (seriously) kissed me good. I liked it as much as I'd known I would.

  19. I feel like one of those Easy girls from North Carolina lol I can't remember my First kiss .. I remember kisses but not sure about that "first" one .. I have a feeling it was not memorable in any way ..
But as the years went by, I did get some pretty good kisses from a boy or two ... actually, this is funny ( to me ) but when I met my husband, he kissed me on the street in NYC and then walked away and ... well, he had me at that kiss.
We were married so many years and I never got tired of those kisses :)

  21. My first proper snog lasted about an hour and a half at the Youth Club disco ... well we did come up for air occasionally !!

It was good practice but when I saw him in the daylight the following week I decided not to pursue matters 😉

The sound track I recall included The Osmonds with Crazy Horses and The Rubettes.

Ahhh .... Those were the days!!

  25. First boy kissed - 1982. First girl kissed - 1994. The girl was a better snogger, but we both returned to normal service afterwards, so to speak.
