An Open Email to Jeff Pruitt

Dear Jeff Pruitt,

Thank you for your detailed email dated the 8th June.
I shall endeavour to reply to each of your points in the order you gave them.

1. Going Gently is not just a blog which promotes as you term "a homosexual lifestyle". True is chronicles the day-to-day life of two middle aged old gay men, in what I would term a fairly positive and realistic light, but I will have to admit that it does not bang on about anything more "in -your-face gay" than chatting about the merits of dino man Chris Pratt's bum cheeks .
(and they are quite wonderful btw)
Your suggestion of adding an "adult" Gateway to the blog address would not be realistic as many of my followers are women of a certain age, who would find the extra work accessing Going Gently somewhat trying

2. I refer to The Prof as "The Prof" in Going Gently because he is a  bone fide Professor! plain and simple. He is also a PhD with a brain the size of a pumpkin... I may also add that Professors in the UK are much higher on the academic ladder than the ones found in the US!

3. My "recent" tirade against your National  Constitution's "Right to bare arms" was a discussion blog entry from last year. In Wales, as in the United States, we do support the right to Free Speech.

4. I am sorry that you feel that I am not quite the best choice of person to be allowed to supervise two small girls in what your describe as "after school club". I think I do quite well given the two hour window of activities I have to organise.
I feel I may need to warn you that the Prof and I are thinking of officially adopting two gay Filipino orphans who we shall rename Daryl and Carol (From the hit show The Walking Dead)
I am hoping that they will be useful in helping me clean out the smaller hen houses in the Ukrainian Village

5. Thank you for your Christian prayers, but Christ's salvation leaves me just a little bit cold, so I think I shall pass on that request.
However if I was ever going to "get religion" I shall pluhmp for being a Quaker... for they quite like gays and I've always enjoyed the film Friendly Persuasion

I am sorry that you found my "Chutzpah" comment relating to Audrey Hepburn and The Nun's Story inappropriate....did you know that Audrey Was and IS a gay icon?

I suggest that you try something new in your life. The experience perhaps would be an eye opening event.
Try a scotch egg! They are delightful.
If you don't like the taste,
then you could always shove one up yer arse!
hey ho and fuck off!

Regards
John Gray
Mr Pratt........

What a hoot. Note to self. I must be more honest in my blog and so receive such an email. Phucking faggot in my inbox does not give me any avenue to respond.

  3. Hey ho, you go John. There's no time and place for that kind of bigotry anymore. When gay marriage didn't bring about the apocalypse, seems the bigots got kind of desperate. Oh, and I'm a gay dad of an adopted daughter, so I'm around her a lot more. And she's a normal adult now. I think having two gay married dads was just what she needed after all her straight relatives put her on the street at 9 years old. So there.

    3. I was about to send you an email, then quickly realized that I did not want to read it. It is incredible that someone you have never met decided to take time out to write you an email decrying your "depravity"

That post you wrote about gun crime in the US sure did hit a few nerves...just think what he would have written if he had also read that other post denigrating those American tourists...which clearly demonstrated your hatred of all things American.

Seriously, I have been thinking about this for the last few hours, and it has brought home to me the bigotry that is out there. It is sad to think how far we still have to go.

Good for you posting your response here

  5. We've always had the right to bare arms. Going without sleeves has never been a question except in certain pockets of fundamentalism. It's the bearing of arms, which "shall not be infringed" according to the 2nd amendment to our Constitution, that has so many people's panties in a wad (British: knickers in a twist). Correct spelling is essential to any written argument or one runs the risk of being misunderstood.

  10. Who the hell is Jeff Pruitt and Why does he think it is okay to judge others?

There once was a fellow called Pruitt
Whose catchphrase was always "Go screw it!"
    Playing with his pork sword
    He praised our dear Lord
And begged his poor sister to chew it.

  14. Everyone has the right to bare arms except for Michelle Obama, the right wing nuts have been very unhappy about seeing her shapely arms for quite some time now!

Of course, it is my firm belief that if it upsets the right wing nuts, she ought to rip the sleeves from every outfit in her closet. :)

  15. I adore you, John Gray. Keep up the good work. I do resent (a tiny bit) the inference that we women of a certain age would have a hard time accessing an adult gateway to find your blog. I mean, unless it involved rock climbing or something, in which case, yes, possibly.

  34. John - this chap has obviously just not taken on board the quotation from the Bible (Matthew I believe) 'Judge not lest ye be judged'). No-one has any right to criticise a straightforward, honest, above-board style of living like that of yours and the Prof. Thank heavens that after years of terrible persecution it is finally alright to admit to being gay rather than hiding it away. I have a transgender grand-daughter/son whom I love dearly. Hasn't he/she enough problems without having to cope with bigots like this? Your blog is the first I look for every day becausee it always shows humanity, love and a caring attitude.
And incidentally how dare he link homosexuality with possible paedophilia?

  59. Mr. Pruitt,

Do us all a favor? kindly go back under the rock you obviously live at, you and your "christian values" nearly made me vomit this morning. Just think of a man who ran around wearing a long dress, with another 12 man and a prostitute, who advocated to love each other - that I know of, he never mentioned of what gender they have to be - and who then threw out of the Temple the hypocrites who used his father name to spew venom and misery by acting according to their true nature, and in the process make themselves sanctimonious asshats for their sole purpose of aggrandizing themselves. You can put the mirror down now, Mr. Pruitt.

The likes of you are the reason why people like me feel like Henry VIII, and unfortunately still, no one seem to be able to spare us from people like you, and your insufferable and offensive diatribe and so we must be exposed to that garbage without the benefit of a choice. Of course we can move on to read something else, which brings me to the question as to why don't you?
Is this purposed to be one of your "christian" outreaches, coming uninvited to a home to insult the owner? On your way out made sure to take your garbage with you. We had enough just by having to read about your ignorance and bigotry. Go back with all those loving fake Christians you emulate who have yet to learn the meaning of the word love. And if you are looking for pedophiles you don't have to look much farther than those men of the cloth who proclaimed to be "christians". I rather have the likes of John take care of any child any time than any professed "christian" like you in the midst.

Btw, I am a woman of a certain age, closer to 75 than to 70, a neuropsychologist and like the Professor with a Ph.D which qualifies me to be a bit versed in human relations, and who has seen the damage done to children by those parents who make of any religion the excuse to harm and traumatized their own and although I am not known by my swearing I wish you actually consider this a parting blessing from me:

I expect you do your best to corrupt the girls by playing Judy Garland in the background and encouraging the use of glitter.

  88. Is it bad that point 4 made me giggle a little bit? Frankly, I love your posts and they bring me a little joy everyday.

Just have to remind people if they don't like the content don't read it and leave the rest of us be.

  91. 133 comments...I am impressed. I find people who police the morality of others so very tireing. As a Christian, I wonder what he'd do if he understood that Christ loves you every bit as much as He loves him.

I had lunch with one of the special effects guys from The Walking Dead today. Keep plugging the show. The more stable Caleb feels in his career, the sooner he will marry my daughter.

  92. oh btw....i have the feeling this guy is going to vote for trump.

    1. I'm sure you're correct, and here's what bothers me about that. Trump has been married 3 times, this last wife is a doozy. Hilary Clinton stayed with a husband who strayed. Which of those two seems more Christian? I think religion is a totally stupid way to judge a political candidate, but if that's going to be a person's criteria, then at least it should be logical.

  93. Ohhh, this made me so mad! I don't know who this Jeff Pruitt is, but I do know that he is dumb. I also know that Jesus would waggle his finger at this 'Christian', who has no idea what it means to be a Christian. I am tempted to say: "Let's burn him at the stake." since he seems to be a waste of space, but why waste the firewood? The shame is all his. Luv' ya John!

  96. You don't flame or swish and have never corrupted anyone on your blog. Sometimes, I forget I am reading a blog by a gay man. Jeff Pruitt is confused. Pedophiles are interested in little girls. Gay men like gay men. Well, except for the one gay man who could not keep his hands off me when his partner turned his back. Plus, the handsy one was younger than my youngest child. I don't judge all gay men by one.

  97. Well i have fancied a few straight men in my time linda

    1. LOL, I am sure you have. I just want a guy to choose sides. I dearly love my gay men friends but not that way...lol.

  98. Oh what a twat - the commenter, not you John, obviously! We women 'of a certain age' would be well pissed off if we couldn't access your subversive and gay blog on baking, Ukrainian villages, chickens, films, ICU care, Flower Show, Aunt Gladys, bulldog divas and other important and life affirming trivia.
I was going to comment in an adult and constructive take down of the idiot but then I had a glass of wine and thought 'Fuck him! the biased idiot ain't worth it'.

  103. John you are the kindest, warmest, funniest most thoughtful of men, he on the other hand is a prize dick !!!! I love the fact he thinks saying he is a Christian allows him to be a bigot (very unfair to true Christians) that is right up there with I'm not a racist, BUT..... You are fabulous so there xx

  104. Oh dear, am I am being corrupted and not realizing it? Even worse, I've gotten my 70 year old Aunt hooked on you too. Your posts are the only bright spot I can count on every day.

  105. Hi John, been hidden for awhile. What I see in you is a kind, thoughtful, humorous man. You have the ability to story tell like my Granny. It soothes me, makes me laugh, and I see a caring individual in you! We sit on the edge of every written word. We all love you and the Prof and your all your furr babies. Please continue to shower us with your day to day happenings sometimes this is our only bright moment of our day. Cheers!

  106. A wonderfully constructive reply to a bigotted, probably closetted-gay "child"...
I use the term "child" as it seems to me that he hasn't got any further... he rests in Dunce Grade for eternity.
In a little village in the "Bum of Britain" two wonderfully gay guys... called by my aged mother and others, "The Boys"...ran the local Tea Room and Deli/Essentials store...
When they decided to retire, they stayed in the village that had welcomed and accepted them, their lifestyle [much the same as yours and the Prof's] and their partnership.
The present incumbents of the Tea Rooms and Shop...now just a Deli and papershop...have yet to achieve what the Boys managed... although they are doing quite well!!
In my experience, openly gay people of both sexes seem to try harder on behalf of their community.... and are usually more outgoing than their "straight" counterparts...
Without the gay community we'd live in a pretty dull world I feel!!
Long may you all keep using your calculators!!

  108. Well, he won't be in any doubt about our collective response to his missive, will he!! My son's response would be "What a wanker!" I do hope he reads the replies, he might start to see there is a world where kindness, courtesy and respect flourish, and get a tiny suspicion that he's missing something.... or am I hoping for too large a miracle.
On the christianity thing, I'm still hanging in to the Anglican church here in New Zealand, but my patience is wearing thin.... how long will we wait for justice.

  109. Oh my! I have one occasional commenter who is mostly very boring and occasionally slightly caustic, but nothing like this, so in the future I think I will be glad that is all I get! 1. Depends on the flavour of the religion, and most have a least a few flavours to choose from. Mr Pruitt just likes his cold and hard and judgemental. He'd be just the same whether he was religious or an atheist.

  117. I was just catching up on your blog (because you post daily, or close to it, woohoo!!!) and had to add my two cents. I love reading your blog. You make my mornings before I head off to work. I laugh out loud, shake my head, feel your pain, love your animals... And this numbnuts who wrote these small minded insults is living in a dream world. I suppose he thinks you can "pray the gay away". He probably doesn't even realize that he has gay neighbours, relatives, and or coworkers, like we all do. Your response to him was a thing of beauty. -Jenn
