We had a cat who was temporarily paralysed after an operation. To the end of her days (over a decade later) if she felt slighted, deprived or put upon she would limp. Piteously. And people tell me that animals are always honest....
I had a lab that would get sick whenever we brought the suitcases down from the attic. The first time it happened we fell for it and changed our vacation plans to take her with us. Miraculously, she recovered soon after getting into the car. Dogs have domesticated us well.
And my sister's Yorkie held his left front paw off the ground and whimpered piteously when he saw her suitcase out to leave on a business trip. He recovered miraculously when her car was gone down the road.
It's amazing what the thought of hoovering up Albert's dinner can do for a girl!

ReplyDeleteDitto.
DeleteOooops, Winnie! You need to remember the limp or the treats and massages will stop.
ReplyDeleteIt must have been your love, caring, kindness, kisses, and willingness to let her be a suck for a while! -Jenn

I've heard of a dog who did the same thing: put on a long-recovered-from limp any time he was chastised.

ReplyDeleteAdrenaline can overcome pain. We've all done it, but not always for a bit of spilled food. :)
