Sunday Service

Let's change the subject

Ok, distance shots for sure , but if you look  closely you can just about get the gist! The Prof is leading the procession to the ancient 13th Century prayer cross in the ChurchYard ( in the natty red)

You can easily make out the Bishop, for he has the old fashioned rotund look of Hattie Jacques- he looks like a galleon in full sail.
( you can also make out the deminuative Auntie Gladys second from the right)

  1. When my son was 2, we attended a full-blown Catholic wedding in a huge old church. Bob liked to visit with people, so he was standing on the bench, facing people behind him, when the Priest, in full-flowing, white robes came onto the podium, Bob turned around, his jaw dropped, and he said (very loudly) "Is DAT da bride?"

    1. In my monastery days, I once walked past a young family while I was wearing my robes. The little boy pointed at me with delight and declared, "You're a church!"
At that point, I realized I really needed to go on a diet.

    2. Jan ans mike...great stories... I love this sort of humour...a humour which deflates the sometimes pomposity of the church

So I have been in a Mormon Church and pretty much embarrassed her to death ..* So ...all the Mormons call each other Brother or Sister so & so ...
There was one very tall elderly man .. his name was John. Brother John. He would walk past me where I sat quiet next my Great Gran. and he would wink at me.
So after spending the weekend with my grandparents ( my grandfather being a Marine Sgt) with a very special pet name he had just for me .. .. I was sitting in the pew and there was Brother John. He winked at me and said Good day Candy.
And I said Good Day Brother John, you ole shitbird you ....

  4. Awesome. My husband played Pontius Pilate in a reenactment of the passion in church this morning. I heard it went well!

  5. This all looks rather grand and stately for a tiny Welsh village church - but glad it all went off well.

  6. Any chance of you investing in a telescopic lens? Could be useful for all sorts of occasions - not to mention the occasional snooping.

  20. I never go to church . Having grown up in the US South , church became torture for me as I grew up. But I love going into empty churches .. St Patricks in NYC ... any church in London , especially the very small ones .. My husband and I liked going to the big ones too, Notre Dame etc but only for the appreciation of the architecture and what Man was capable of building, way back then.
My great grandmother was from England, she was the one that took me to church .. I was so small, the people were so nice .. it was a pleasant way to be introduced to churches without religion butting in lol

  21. Your life reads like a book I feel I have gotten to know all the characters, pretty soon you will have tourists arriving by the bus load in Trelawnyd just like they travel from abroad to tour the mid summer murder countryside. I will be looking for Auntie Gladys to get her autograph.

Although I'm not a church goer I will pop in to see and admire how clean it is John.
