What do you fear?
Spiders?......( well I don't like em)
Water? ........( not happy about anything deeper than waist height
Heights? .....( absolutely terrified)
So what are the Prof and I doing a week on Saturday?
We are doing
This ( the big one)
I shall be wearing a nappy

Please borrow a go pro from someone and wear it so we can see what happens.
ReplyDeleteand we will also have to rename you Three. (As in Four from Divergent, 4 fears. Although Trice is the one who does the wire in the film and book.)
Deletetry to get one with sound!
DeleteCool - I'd love a go on that thing!
ReplyDeleteUsed to be scared of heights and confined spaces. Then when I was an apprentice and first started working on Lockheed Tristars the fitter I was with made sure my first jobs were replacing the depleted uranium counterweight at the top of the tail fin, and carrying out a repair inside an outer wing fuel tank. Neither thing has bothered me since.
I bloody well would shit myself up there
DeleteI did a zipline in Hawaii and, although I had serious doubts about doing so, it turned out to be a lot of fun. When you've got the helmet and all the gear on, you'll feel like a total jock, man.
ReplyDeleteOur son used to work at one of these places. The bad-news/good-news is that the staff usually gets hurt more than the patrons, because out-of-control patrons come smashing into them at the bottom. The staff is well-trained to protect you, even though they may be bunged up in the process. Hope your own flight is safe!
ReplyDeletePity the poor bugger who will catch me
DeleteFabulous John, you will love it! Hope the weather is beautiful so you can see everything - you must keep your eyes OPEN!
ReplyDeleteI ziplined in Hawaii - stepping off the platform (we were vertical not horizontal like this) first time was a bit scary, but then it was awesome flying across the landscape and feeling like a bird in flight. I didn't want it to end.
Go, enjoy the experience and tell us the story! Make sure someone takes pix of you and the Prof.
Mary -
Scary for me. Enjoy!!!!
ReplyDeleteJohn, you will have so much fun! I've been ziplining and it was fantastic. Good for you for facing your fear!
ReplyDeleteScared of heights, yes I can say that.
ReplyDeleteWell done you for confronting your fears. It will blow your mind, if not your bowels!
ReplyDeleteWow. I'm impressed that you are going to tackle this.
ReplyDeleteHeights have never bothered me; I was climbing fire towers when I was three... scared my parents right out of their socks, though.
ReplyDeleteClaustrophobia? Yup, out the ole wazoobie.
Me too. Heights are fine. Enclosed spaces are NOT.
DeleteI'm impressed too - I definitely wouldn't!
ReplyDeleteOh my dear! You are positively intrepid!
ReplyDeleteArnt i just?
DeleteWow, what an adventure, it looks like laying on a magic carpet and flying. Please post video, try not to drop your camera.
ReplyDeleteNappy...Good idea.
ReplyDeleteOH wonderful John. You go and enjoy that adventure and congratulate yourself for facing your fear/s. I've been ziplining over a forest in South Africa. And I did a skydive over East England in 2005. I still get such a thrill when I watch the DVD.
ReplyDeleteSeems I remember you jumped out of a plane so the zipline should be a piece of cake. I smash venomous spiders with my fingers, but would never jump out of a plane.
ReplyDeleteImagine you are Peter Pan looking for the Lost Boys. And the Prof can be Tinkerbell. That might help with the fear.
ReplyDeleteThe prof as tinkerbell ......thats a first
DeleteLooks like fun - yeah, you definitely would want an adult diaper.
ReplyDeleteJUST SAY NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
ReplyDeleteNow I know you're crazy.
ReplyDeleteYou are a brave soul! I hope you have a clear day for your "flight".
ReplyDeleteYou are a brave soul! I hope you have a clear day for your "flight".
ReplyDeleteI will need a nappy just to watch!
ReplyDeleteI've watched and yes a nappy is advisable good luck
ReplyDeleteI reckon you've only told us so you don't back out at the last minute (as I would do!). Good luck - I bet it will be amazing and an unbelievable rush - especially afterwards in the pub ;-)

ReplyDeleteOn the 13th..............oooh, you're brave!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I'd love to do this, hope the weather is clear for you, because the view should be amazing!
And by the way, vomit vaporises at 80 mph! X
Its the 20 th !
DeleteSo, two weeks on Saturday then! X
DeleteJust close your eyes and think of England - a country that you won't be seeing ever again. (Tee hee!)
ReplyDeleteI am jealous! It will be great.
ReplyDeleteYou only live once! then you can say 'Yes! I did it!" Next you will be jumping out of an airplane.
ReplyDeleteWheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteFantabulous! I keep meaning to book this....I'm a terrible scaredy cat but my kids would love it...have fun and get it filmed please..x
ReplyDeleteWho bought it for you?
ReplyDeleteRachel just beat me to that question! Was actually going to say who's stupid idea was it. I had to get up from reading the post on my iPhone and go to the iMac to comment as can't seem to do it on the phone! good luck anyway. We def. need pics if not a video.
DeleteIt was a wedding gift from a fellow academic of the Prof

ReplyDeleteI screwed up on my comment ...
DeleteI said ... Now that would scare me .. the flying part.
John! Have you considered the wind chill factor at this time of year? Certain things could freeze off!
ReplyDeleteIf you can overcome the fear and look at the view it will be great. I did a great big one at GoApe Haldon Hills overlooking Dartmoor. It was spectacular! x
ReplyDeleteI will try i promise x
DeleteClowns for me. But I don't think I'd be zip lining either! Can't wait to see the snaps!
ReplyDeleteWhy?
ReplyDeleteTo prove that fat old men can fly
DeleteThis looks a lot more fun than flying in an airplane...however, I must ask, "Do you get a parachute?" :D :D :D Always like to stop in and see how you're doing John...didn't know you were on Facebook...will look you up! Theanne aka Yaya
ReplyDeleteI did a parachute jump 30 years ago..... I broke my collar bone on landing
DeleteIt's been really nice getting to know you. Can I have Winnie when you die?
ReplyDeleteLol.... She's already spoken for toni.......i have promised winnie to a fellow Samaritan.....if i ever die early......she will go there.. The woman regulary babysits her
DeleteThe weather forecast says strong gales for Saturday so perhaps brown underpants would be more successful.
ReplyDeleteIts a week on saturday pat
DeleteFace down?....Tell the Prof to wear goggles over his glasses!
ReplyDeleteBi'll look like a fat sausage

ReplyDeleteSorry should have said old or fat

DeleteThat is going to be fantastic - very brave - have fun.
ReplyDeleteJust imagine that you are Camilla, your goose, in flight. You are very brave. How does the Prof feel about this? Is he looking forward to it, or fearful? -Jenn
ReplyDeleteI would like to do that, but not in the middle of winter.
ReplyDeleteHave fun and don't forget the nappy.
ReplyDeleteHave fun and don't forget the nappy.
ReplyDeleteI would not have to worry about a nappy - I would have passed out shortly after the countdown and missed all the scenery!
ReplyDeletelook forward to the photos/videos oh brave ones!
So with the height simply THERE, the water below you ... all you need to conquer all your fears in one go is a spider climbing down off your safety helmet right in front of your eyes ;-)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!!
Ahhhhhhhhhh!!! I'd love to do that, but I don't think there'd be a nappy big enough. I'm not afraid of heights. I'm not afraid of dying. But I AM afraid of ... splat!
ReplyDeleteLooks fab! Are you going for the big one?
ReplyDeleteThis looks like so much fun!
ReplyDeleteI would be terrified, enjoy you brave man !!
