Spectre

I had big hopes for Spectre. From the publicity, the talk shows , the gossip and the hype, I understood that the franchise was due to leave the seriousness and the fragility of Bond from "Casino Royale" and the rollercoaster ride that was " Skyfall" to become something that was a little more wisecracking, frivolous and a homage to all the other Bonds that have gone before.
So we had the spectacular chase sequence in a tropical parade ( an amazing tracking shot in and around the " day of the dead" celebrations in Mexico), a fluffy white cat, the helicopter and inside a sleeper train fight, the exploding secret lair and even jokey Italian extra over reacting to the obligatory car chase, and although it looked marvellous , dramatically it left me totally cold .
Casino Royale's Bond was so much more interesting.
7/10.

  1. i hadn't heard anything about this movie so when i saw the first pic on this post, after your last post, i thought....wow... Trelawnyd has a lot going on!

  2. LOL, jaz ! Trelawnyd had us all fooled ! I won't go to the cinema by myself so I have to either hope I make a cinema friend or wait until it comes on tv ... I love all the Bond movies because they have 1- good music 2- fabulous locations 3- pretty people 4-interesting bad guys and it has nothing to do with "real life"...

  3. I need help - I don't know whether your review means that I should go and see it, or I shouldn't. All my friends say it was bloody good, but I need your permission to agree.

  4. I'll be going this weekend... Haven't met a Bond movie i haven't liked so i'll probably like this one.. :) Well i take that back... there are two bond movies i don't care for the guy they have playing Bond... darn i can't remember his name.. he only made two...grrrrr.. I hate that , when i can't remember... I think he came on right after Roger Moore... i prefer my bond handsome and i don't think the current Bond fits that profile.. at least for me... I prefer Pierce Brosnan ....I did like SkyFall... sorry to see M pass........that was too too sad... I liked her as M........and can remember at first i didn't think i would because it has traditionally been a male role... Oh and Q! LOVE Q... Hugs!! deb

  5. It opened here today. The Retired man wants to see it but now I have your bad review to tell him why I don't. Thank you, John.

  6. James Bond is shite. You would have had more entertainment watching lug worms on the beach at Prestatyn.

    1. With which I can heartily agree (without seeing it, for shite is identifiable without close examination). Lug worms, however, are fascinating (not sure about Prestatyn).

  7. I am going to have to grab some unsuspecting person on the street and make them go see the film with me.
    I can't go to a movie by myself .. C ... the neurotic.

  9. If Daniel Craig is in it, then who cares about the plot? He's a hottie. :)

  10. I can't see Daniel Craig now without thinking how grumpy he has been about Bond just lately. It has kind of ruined things for me, so I will not be going to see it. I might see it once it comes out on DVD. :)

There seem to be very mixed reviews about Spectre.
I've really enjoyed Daniel Craig's interpretation of Bond, Christoph Waltz is a brilliant actor, and Monica Bellucci is hotter than satan's barbecue, but can I really be arsed to sit in the dark with a crowd of farting, coughing, rustling strangers for two and a half hours?
Maybe I'll wait for it to come out on BluRay - doesn't take long these days!

  12. Agree with your review. Some nice scenery, including the Westminster bridge scene (always good to see the coade stone lion) but, frankly, I found the film a little boring. I can remember going to see a Bond and thinking "could go straight back in ans watch it again" - not this one.

  13. All style no substance?

  14. I quite fancy going to see this. Bond at the cinema is a different kettle of fish to watching it on Dvd , I love it on the big screen ...... unless you go my Mum's local cinema where they have the sound loud enough to make your ears bleed :-)

  15. Not a Bond fan, although I did sit through Skyfall without handcuffs and leg irons. Will manage to avoid this offering.

  16. And now I've had to Google lugworm, but that was much less interesting.
