Beach Holidays

For the first time in a few years we have organised a beach holiday. Well to be perfectly precise we will be having TWO breaks by the sea!
The first break is a few days here

And the next is ten days here!

Yes the two places look rather similar.....only the first is in Broadstairs in Kent ...and the second is in Manly in SYDNEY AUSTRALIA!  How good is that!
The break will do us both good.
The Prof is working in Australia in August then will join his best  friend and colleague for a weeks sailing ( I'd rather stick needles in my eyes than be seen dead on a small sailing yacht in the middle of the Pacific ( I've seen Dead Calm!) he will then fly to Sydney and meet me as I fly in from the UK
Now you know just why I am trying to shift all that ugly flab at fat club now!
I want to be able to sit on a beach without looking like Demis Roussos.

As usual, at holiday time it is the animals and  more importantly their care which is the knotty problem.....but I think I have just about sorted it all out. The neighbours have promised to watch over Albert and will sort out the water requirements for the field animals . Village boffin Cameron will be
in charge of the birds and William is set for a stink in our local kennels.
Winnie is going to the home of one of my fellow Samaritans who is a bulldog fanatic and George will have a holiday break at my sister's house with her dogs.

Broadstairs and Sydney how fantastic is that!

  1. Wow, sounds like two great breaks, which i'm sure, given the past weeks, you really need.

    "I've seen Dead Calm."

    I love that line!

  2. Perfect! It is always so much trouble to make arrangements for the animal kids but it is always worth it.

  3. I'm so impressed! And Dead Calm! Ha! I forgot about that.

  4. Wow. How wonderful will that be. I'm a beach vacation kind of person. You can't go wrong. Just wish I could swing living by the sea. I wouldn't go on that boat either. Not even the QEII. I've a fear of monster waves.

  5. Manly sounds like an aptly named place for an Australian holiday...

  6. Oooh, Sydney, you lucky man..... brilliant coffee and cake culture, so don't try too hard at the gym, as you're just going to go and spoil it all anyway.

  7. Lots to look forward to and glad to know that you are 'beach body ready' in anticipation!

  8. Sounds wonderful. I would love to go to Australia! Enjoy to the fullest - don't worry about fat - it's firmer than flab.

  9. Sweet, sweet picture of Meg on the sidebar, John. That face ...

    Have a wonderful holiday.

  10. Broadstairs looks nice. Manly has got some stuff on the sand like sea weed.

  11. Manly looks beastly hot. A lobster-red sunburn will look much better on your newly svelte figure, I expect.

  12. too bad it will be winter in Sidney. you might get chilly on that beach. ;-)

    1. Yes! I was of the same thoughts! Still cold here then! Not really tanning time on a Beach!

    2. I was also going to remind you that august is Winter here though the temperature may be quite similar to yours at the time!!! Hope you enjoy your holiday, it's a long way to come for only a week.

  13. Well, blow me down! That's news indeed - and as soon as next month as well! Pleased you're not going to attempt a Johnny Depp and smuggle your four-footers in with you. You will of course be taking oodles of pictures to show us. Oooooh! Exciting!

  14. Great holiday, John - Sydney that is - not sure about Broadstairs as we've never been. Wilma is right though, it's winter down there, and may be a tad chilly, so don't forget your vest !
We'll spare a thought for poor William, all alone at kennels - couldn't you find someone to care for him?

Broadstairs' biggest claim to fame is that I was born there.

  16. Exciting and I'm so jealous. Look forward to your blogging from beaches. Please don't get sand in the blog. It'll be a nightmare getting it out.

  17. I'd stick with Broadstairs: Demi Roussos wouldn't look out of place there.

  18. Manly is home to Little Penguins. I thought everyone was pulling my leg but then nearly fell off the jetty when I actually saw one.

    1. 26 of them were killed recently by a cunning fox. Vigilante group set up to catch the fox.

  22. Truly fantastic John - you both need a break as things have not been good lately have they? Agrtee about the sailing though - we had a sailing boat once (my previous husband and I) but I would never go anywhere near it.

  23. How fantastic indeed! This is good news and you have the anticipation of preparing for it and looking forward to it. xx

  24. Fantastic, that's how.

  25. Lucky devil! I hope you have a great time at both holiday destinations. Remember to pack lots of scotch eggs in your suitcase. If the fussy Aussie customs stop you, tell them the scotch eggs are English cricket balls.

  26. Very fantastic......it sounds like a fabulous trip. So happy for you.
But ......for some reason I thought Calgary was going to be a destination this summer....did I just make that up or is it still in the planning stage?

  28. Just the ticket for you both! A much needed restful break ....then come back to the animals refreshed and looking forward!

  29. You lucky ducks! Have a fabulous time!

  30. We will welcome you both but I hate to say it but we are having a freezing winter! We do live in rural NSW but my daughter is fed up with Sydney weather at the moment.
However don't let a bit of weather spoil your trip. Enjoy but bring some woollies!

  31. Its a sunny 18c (65f) here in Sydney, today bit chilly in morning though. Hopefully will warm up a bit more for you guys before you arrive. Hubby will freeze hits tits off in Melbourne.

    1. Blimey, if that's your winter you're doing better than our Scottish summers! 13C here today and we've had torrential rain again, in the middle of our summer. Our radiators were hot when I got up this morning!

  32. Would you go on the Walker Stalker cruise? Norman Reedus will be onboard...

Glad about your holidays, you need them!

  33. John it will be the end of winter here in Australia when you arrive....perhaps not an issue about how you will look in your togs......I'm sure you will have a great time even though you won't be working on your tan!!

  42. Australia? Wow that is so far away from home. I'm glad that you get this opportunity. Now, have you read that Rachel has acquired a physical fitness book that can make you as fit as a fighter jet pilot in just 12 minutes a day? There is still a little time left until August.

  43. How absolutely lovely. And Sydney won't even be toooo hot and sticky then either.

  44. Exactly what you need John. A holiday isn't a holiday to me without a beach, regardless of the weather. Have a wonderful time xx

  45. I hope William is going for a stint and not just a 'stink' in the kennels!
I love Broadstairs, a short train ride from me, but don't get the opportunity to get there. Please take photos of your lovely hols and we are all looking forward to your adventures.

  46. A good time of year to visit Manly, it won't be too crowded. If you feel like a good walk, try the Manley Scenic Walkway over to Spit Bridge. Lots of great scenery and views of Sydney Harbour.
