Does Chris's university have the same faculty structure as the US? Here it's : Instructor Associate Prof Assistant Prof Prof The Associate prof is a tenure-track position, once they are promoted to prof they gain tenure, and generally have to kill several students in a given day to be fired. The intructor and associate prof are usually Phd level, but not on a 'track' for tenure.
Professor means MUCH more in the UK. "Professor" in the US means about the same as "Lecturer" in UK. Well done Chris - buy yourself a packet of Chicken flavour crisps (chicken flavor chips in US) as a huge treat.
Yes, my co-authors in the US are all "Professors" but none is a professor in the UK sense (and I am a mere lecturer, part-time, precoccupied with other things..., but in the US they call me Professor Scott). I just looked up Chris's university staff profile and was alarmed to find a woman's head.... (as would you be, I suspect) but then saw that was just the page header and handsome Chris appeared below, and with a huge smile on his face! He smiles when you are not there?)
Congratulations and Well Done to Chris, he deserves it. My son is headed that way, I think. He's bloody useless domestically, but the brains, they scare me... and I'm his mummy. So, I have an Academic, an Artist and a Carer I am very blessed. x All I have to do now is get rid of The FW lol
Congratulations are in order Professor! Wow, I know a Professor (sort of) who would have thought! Brilliant start to 2015 for you both... but it comes in threes.... so...
Woohoo! Well done that man. Congratulations to Chris for all the hard work, and to you too, John. Someone has to keep the household afloat while Chris conquers academia!
Hard work pays off! Congratulations to both of you because I know that you, John, are so proud of Chris! Just bustin' your buttons with pride! What a great slightly belated wedding gift.
Woo Hoo, Bells and Whistles, Congrats to Mr and Mr Prof. One day, when the sun shines both sides of the hedgerows, I am going to make my way up there and look you out. Beware this is not an empty threat, I will bear gifts.
Professor Chris Burton of Trelawnyd will make a guest appearance on Going Gently to give his inaugural lecture. Life with John and 4 dogs and a cat. xxxxx
Hats off!!! (Does this mean you will have to accompany him to all the official diners, sitting with the Dean, etc. etc. I can see some problems there...)
Woohoo! Congratulations to Professor Burton-Gray. It's a long hard slog to professorship so well done to Chris and to you for all the support you've obviously given him. What a wonderful year for you both. What a posh couple you'll make now.
I looked him up on Google and there he is on the Bangor University website in a smart suit and a yellow tie. So he is famous on the Internet in his own way. He has a long list of research and publications. A smart man, you can tell because of who he married...
Wow ... Congratulations to Chris. I'm sure having a good man married to him made all the difference. So now I guess it's 'Professor and Mr Burton-Gray' on the envelopes. :-)
congratulations Chris.
