Chris always accuses me of being bulldog biased.
I don't think that is true, but I do have to concede that looking after a " rehomed bulldog bitch" does have  specific pleasures that are unique to the breed.
The terriers were loved and spoilt right from the start.
Winnie was a veteran of two litters in a busy breeding household when she arrived
The terriers were trained in car travel, lead walking and social etiquette when they were barely out of their puppy hoods .
Winnie, although sociable, had non of these milestones.
She had to learn all of these puppy skills aged five.

And so I always find her ability to find pleasure in the smallest of day to day activities incredibly moving.
I was thinking only this when were were out for a walk in torrential rain yesterday afternoon.
The terriers were walking dutifully by my side...Heads down, eyes tight against the wind
In their centre was Winnie with her head up, piggy eyes bright with a big stupid grin on her chops.

A simple walk in the pouring rain and she looked liked the cat who had got the cream.

  3. Simple pleasures are always the most satisfying, and I'm sure that Winnie finds as much pleasure in her training of you Mr Gray.

  5. Dogs just do it so well don't they, find the sunshine in the most mundane of moments. If only we could follow suit a bit more easily.

  14. You Mr Gray have made my day....once again.
I do believe rescue dogs know when the have found a 'home'. I consider myself to be a lab person...but I can see the appeal of a bulldog.....and what a magnificent bulldog she is!!

  15. What a great picture :O). It has always seemed to me that rescue dogs seem rather the same way in enjoying life. Or the three rescue dogs we have had were like this. Just tickled pink to be in a loving home.

  17. A match made in heaven...I do think rescue dogs enjoy life more...rescue cats just think "it's about time"...

  18. This makes my breath catch in my throat. One of our cats came from the street, dropped in our neighbourhood as far as we can tell because a door to door canvass did not locate her home. She had a grim look to her at first and it took a long time before she learned how to play. It is lovely now to see her chasing toys, head butting us, and sleeping fully relaxed. I love to hear good stories about rescued animals; it helps to balance the bad things in the world.

  21. I agree with Texan. Our little rescue dog Mickey finds joy in every little thing. Every trip to the barn (4 times a day, at least) is the best thing ever to him.

  22. Our rescue Cairn lives only to eat. But, she's not breeding puppies any more, and she wants a lap when there is a thunder storm. I know she lived in an Amish breeding barn in an open field, taking care of puppies, and I wonder what she did in storms there.

  43. All of our cats except Phoebe were rescues (Jim was a bit of both as he was born a feral barn cat and taken as a kitten to be rehomed). They all seem to savour the little things. Phoebe has always been a diva, complaining about this and that. First world cat problems. The others put up with her and i'm sure wondered why she complains as much as she does.

I hope the Meg, William, and George know that Winnie didn't have the same kind of love they've always known and give her some slack.
