Seasonal London

Me and Nu ( me with my big head)
Cities in general, always look at their best at Christmas.
I think it's the combination of dark skies and coloured lights that tips the balance
London was full of good cheer today, it had shed some of its antisocial bad boy image.

I am typing this on the virgin train home.
A group of Samaritan volunteers at Euson  Station were singing carols amid the crowds, and although the was a sense of " I've got to get home" urgency hanging in the air.... I and many other commuters seemed rather moved by the spectacle of it all.

I have had a lovely .24 hours in the capital. Swan lake at Saddlers Wells, cocktails and a meal out overlooking London Bridge and the twinkly Thames and a catch up with an old friend.
What could be better?

Like I said London was on good form...as was Nu.
I slipped all of my loose change into the samaritan's collection bucket before I legged it to my train.
" have a lovely Christmas" the volunteer called out
And do you know what?
she really sounded as if she meant it ...............

Nu and the city

Can't help but think of the quote, When a man is bored of London, he is bored with life. Glad you had a good time.

    1. Lovely images. So nice to catch up with old good friends.
People rave about Rome and Paree, but London is still my favourite city in the world.

  13. It feels good to get out every now and then, doesn't it? It gives you a whole new energy. It's so great to have a close friend for so many years. And having a big head can mean only one thing - you have lost a tremendous amount of weight!!! (Not that you needed to.)

  15. I'm glad you enjoyed your short stay in London. It's the best city in the world mind you, as I break out in song:

"Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner, that I love London town
Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner, that I think of her, wherever I go" (cockney accent of course).

Next time, why not pop over to East London, Canary Wharf and I just might leave you a glass of wine in one of my favourite bars. No joke.

And next time, check the ID of anyone waving a basket requesting money for a good cause, remember I'm born and bred here!!!!

  16. What a lovely exclamation point during the darkest time of year! How lucky you are to enjoy some of the glitz and glamour of London at Christmas and still be able to retreat back to your cozy Welsh village for the real deal. Best of both worlds.

  17. Awww, that's so awesome! Isn't it great when you're a country boy and you venture out to the big smoke during the holiday season? Your friend Nu looks absolutely lovely. Glad you had a great time!

  21. Hmmm, I think cities look best in the summer when the sunshine makes everything look clean and fresh, purged of the winter dreariness and shabbiness. But glad to hear London was full of good cheer.

  22. What a lovely seasonal post. A rarity in blog land these days . It seems constant bloody whining how ghastly it all is is very on trend this year. Yawn! As its Christmas I wanted to wish you a Merry Christmas! Love your blog your a real breathe of fresh air. I would of commented before now but I am a lazy buffer at times. Have a good one.

  24. That's a neat photo of Nuala and the illuminated windows. A break in the city (even a broken city) with its culture and different thinking is essential for country dwellers me thinks. Glad you both had a good time.

So true. The human spirit needs to be bolstered by lights this time of year.

  28. I love London, but haven't been there for years since moving to NZ 29 years ago. The joy of being mobbed by pigeons in Trafalgar Square and shat on I may add! Catching up with old friends is always a good thing but at Christmas in London.....no wonder you both look very happy. Wish I could see the version on Swan Lake you did. It sounds a hoot!

  29. nu looks just as lovely now as she did in your photos - and a sea of humanity visited during the holidays usually brings out the best in everyone!

  30. Happy Christmas to you and Chris and all the animals. (In case I forgot being online in the next 2-3 days).

Most mainland Indian cities will look great during the time of Diwali, the festival of lights. Pakistani and Bangladeshi cities will look great at time of Id.

  32. You and Nu look so happy together. Nothing like good mates, good food and good wine to lift the spirits. I always think it's such a waste of power to leave all those lights on in those gigantic office buildings - left on all night apparently but that's me just doing my 'baa humbug' bit!Glad you had such a great time and Libs is right, Nuala is very pretty. x
