I am always fascinated in the fact that some people can regress at times of illness and stress. As a nurse I have witnessed toddler tantrums from middle aged men under duress and thumb sucking frozen awareness by patients in pain.
It's a common phenomenon in human beings..and is, I suspect, a more common occurrence in men rather than women
When I am full of cold, I return to those " on the couch and under the duvet" times of childhood....watching tv quietly with a lucozade and sympathy and today, William, a six year old welsh terrier has done exactly the same.
Yesterday, he caught one of his claws on the bed when he jumped down onto the floor and ripped it out. I sprayed the wound with some bright purple antiseptic spray, and although he only showed a minor limp, it was obvious he was uncomfortable and very sorry for himself.
This morning, William disappeared after his morning walk.

I found him fast asleep in bed. His body under the duvet and his head and sore paw gently laid out on my pillow
I admit to the thumb sucking thing when I'm poorly - which is odd, cos I never did it when I was a kid.
ReplyDeleteOh Bless him. I hope his little purple paw is on the mend soon x
ReplyDeleteOuch, that must have hurt a lot. I'm sure you'll give him lots of love and sympathy.
ReplyDeleteAwww. Poor baby. He looks so sweet.

Aww, Willy got a boo-boo! You must put him on the couch in front of some Clifford the Big Red Dog cartoons and give him soothing pats on the head every 30 minutes.

Sweet William, I hope your paw heals quickly!
ReplyDelete♥
ReplyDeleteMy tomcat, Smeagol, came in the other night pretty beat up from a fight, and he was the biggest baby for a couple of days.
ReplyDeleteI hope William is feeling better soon.
He knows where to find comfort and that's lovely.
ReplyDeleteWe saw Winifred on Saturday, well it was her double actually, called Maisie, she was absolutely adorable, the sad thing was our Rosy, the Jack Russell hated her on sight and would have nothing to do with her. The look on Maisie's face was a picture, "what you don't love me ... really"!!
Suky, the Pug on the other hand was totally smitten ... she's got good taste that Pug.
That's how I feel right now. Just had a cyst removed from my scalp, so a bit sore and self-conscious.
ReplyDeleteOnly screamed once, when the needle went in my scalp, though did find the burning smell as they cauterised all the blood vessels around the growth a bit disconcerting.
Feeling much the same at the moment, just not with that doggy time to do it!
