I was standing in the queue in Dyserth's Post Office this morning
When I spied one of the Trelawnyd village grey hairs
" I hear you are giving the friendship group a talk about BOGS in October"
She trilled
" That sounds interesting" she added without a hint of sarcasm
But I could tell that she thought the subject matter
was as boring as dust
I didn't have the heart to say that the talk was actually
About blogs
Ah, toilet humour. That's so English. I mean Welsh.
ReplyDeleteDo non Uk people also refer to toilets as bogs?
DeleteNot that *I've* ever heard here in the States.
DeleteNor in Canada, either
DeleteAmazing the difference a missing "L" can make
ReplyDeleteThe story of my IFE
DeleteHa! Ha! Nice one Earl!
Deletethe cotton tops would be amazed at just how interesting b'l'ogs can be!
ReplyDeleteThey are a hard audience to win over
DeleteWhen you put the posters up, try one that says BOG, and the other that says BLOG... just to see which sells more tickets!
ReplyDeletePerhaps I should do some research on marshlands of Britain
DeleteThey'll never ask me again
Blog or bog - you can sink deeply into both of them!
DeleteOne does wonder what she thinks "bogs" are.
ReplyDeleteBrightlingsea Operatic Group. Really exists, I live here
DeleteWhy not change the subject to bogs then? I bet you have visited many bogs in your time, often forgetting to utilise the bog brush no doubt! Or you could change the topic of the talk to logs which are always fascinating. I know what you are thinking right now - bog off! - so I will.
ReplyDeleteFunny....
ReplyDeleteI say BOG you say BLOG, as long as you get more followers what difference does it make? And for the record, if I lived close I'd be in your audience in a heartbeat!
ReplyDeleteLets call the whole thing off......
DeleteOh I don't know, a few years back Lucinda Lambton did a TV prog about public toilets and it was fascinating! I believe she followed it with a book.
ReplyDeleteI think marshlands would be quite interesting.
ReplyDeleteIf you need any examples of good blogs for your talk don't forget to mention mine...
I'm starting my blog soon. I got awarded 3 years free hosting with my blog idea!
ReplyDeleteWell send us the link when u are up and running....
DeleteWill do! It's a dog blog :-)
DeleteJust enunciate very clearly when you tell them that you get lots of visitors to your BLOG and many of them write comments in it.
ReplyDeleteI hope you're flushed with success on the night of your talk.
I think I will give them an " outsiders " view of the village
DeleteWhy not? It seems you're always sitting on one when visitors come a calling.
ReplyDeleteLLX
I enjoy your blog very much, John and have enjoyed all your bog posts in the past too! I would love to attend your talk, to see if you're going to add one of your blog bog stories! Good luck! Jo xxx
ReplyDeleteThe bleached bum story perhaps.?
DeleteLove the cartoon ~ snatched!
ReplyDeleteThose chicken cartoons are so funny.. A bit far side in nature
DeleteLOL!! A classic :-)
ReplyDeleteWell, in your blog you do talk about bleaching the bog!
ReplyDeleteSounds like she should have gone to Specsavers for a hearing test!!

ReplyDeleteMom whatndidyou say?
DeleteWTF happened? As I recall, I was talking about a guy who spoke about toilets around the world - I heard him speak at a convention. He had wild stories and slides of various types, and talked about the earliest ones. Some, especially in the Far East, were pretty scary. He also talked about the nicknames given toilets (and I don't remember ever hearing of "bog")...and I commented that the most popular in the States (at least that I've heard) is "the John". Sorry - but that's for real! Supposedly it's for Sir John Harrington, a brit who invented the flush toilet over 400 years ago. Now, was that so bad it had to be removed? I don't think I said anything ugly, other to recommend that you take a bottle of bleach with you for your talk.
DeleteNancy in Iowa
Hehe.
ReplyDeleteWell, there must be something good about bogs...
Hope you have a good evening, John. :-)
Two talks for the price of one.
ReplyDeleteA BOGOF!
Very good Jessica!
DeleteBoom boom
DeleteAnd the one thing your blog is definitely not John is boring and you can put that in your talk and tell them!
ReplyDeleteOnly in a small village.....
ReplyDeleteThat's a talk I'd like to hear x
ReplyDeleteSee - the snags of language! I learned that "bog" means "moor/swamp" - reading a few comments taught me 'living English', and of course it is graphic too.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that bog means toilet. Is it a particular type of toilet, such as an outhouse? Bog seems a good name for an outhouse. I would attend to listen to you talk about bogs or blogs or whatever.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Leave it to the old flossy heads to confuse the matter, lol
ReplyDeleteOi! I'm a flossy head and I'm not confused. Far from it.
ReplyDeleteFar from what?
Who am I?
What am I doing here?
Time for cocoa and bed.
Where's my teeth-mug?
A few of us girls used to meet once a month to play cards and have a few beers. After much thought (believe or not) we named our group BOG...Bitches Out Gambling.
ReplyDeleteI doubt we'd have picked that name if we had known it meant toilet! hehe
Ah yes, humility reminders. And I swear no one can deliver them as well as an Elder.
ReplyDeleteOMG! It worked! I tried on Chrome this time. It feels just like I'd been lost in the jungle for months and then stumbled onto the ruins of an old WWII fighter jet with an old ham radio and an outside line. :-)
ReplyDeleteIn my (admittedly small) circle of elderly, there is not one who would be any more excited over a talk on blogs than on bogs ... they don't know what they're missing :)
ReplyDeleteWell, as long as people don't start putting crap in their BLOGS. Oh, hang on a sec..........
ReplyDelete(No, J.G., not YOU!)
About twenty years ago I went to a talk given by the Duchess of Devonshire about Chatsworth House.
ReplyDeleteShe sat on stage in front of 250 people and without the aid of slides or anything other than a simple microphone she gave a fascinating account of life in the great house.
The thing about it that I remember most is that it has 53 toilets and she spent some time talking about them!
So not a discourse about wetland nature reserves? Shame.
ReplyDeleteNo, on this side of the Pond, "bog" seems to be marshland only, not the toilet. But, when you've used "bog paper," and mentioned the time where you had run out, and an unfortunate workman found that out only after he, er, needed some, i must admit i knew exactly what had transpired, and i got to giggling.
ReplyDeletebog on a blog. Both can be funny.
