For weeks now, village character Islwyn has been tinkering around the field borders constructing me a temporary pond. The idea , planning, implementation and positioning has been his baby so to speak, I have just watched benignly from the side lines as a collection of sullen teenage helpers from the village have beavered away creating a shallow saucer pond that measures around fifteen feet in diameter , that is fed by a small canal which tapers away from the spring that runs along the field boundary.
This morning the geese, who are naturally cautious characters, gave the whole water park thing a go for the very first time
Some village wag commented that the Ukrainian Village will be having street lights installed next!
Me thinks the village will have to be named real soon
There is nothing quite so joyful as geese finding a goodly puddle of water. I bet the sight of them enjoying themselves lifted your heart. Well done to those lads!
ReplyDeleteAnd what lucky Geese they are to have a swimming pool installed for them. Gorgeous. Thank you.

ReplyDeleteWonderful! They'll love that!!
ReplyDeleteNothing better than happy geese.
ReplyDeleteIf it's fed by a small spring, maybe it doesn't require the plastic! You could plant Bulrushes and Gunnera.
ReplyDeletei have kept out of any construction issues cro

I love that dirty water (Come on, come on)
9 i have been told it will clear soon!
Sullen teenagers were persuaded to work? Wow.
ReplyDeletehow deep is it?
ReplyDeleteNow it's been well and truly christened, once Geese find water they are in heaven. A few bushes planted around and the Ukrainian Village will have it's own little oasis.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't plant anything around the pond, John. Whatever it would be, it would provide cover for predators looking for a feathered feast.
ReplyDeleteSpring fed? Oh happy day - you'll ride out droughts and such that way. Can't wait to see if the runner ducks will take to it too. Great pic!
Oh yeh...when's the water slide going in?
ReplyDeleteJane x
How do you get sullen teenage boys to do anything?
ReplyDeletefar be for me to denigrate their hard work but... that is more a puddle than a village pond! I was expecting something much large with a MP style duck house in the middle on a little island... am I asking too much?
ReplyDeletewell it's a nice thought but 'could try harder' would be my judgement!
ReplyDeleteMy grandson went sullen on my one time this summer, in the midst of all the hard work I put them through with the garden. We yelled at each other. I yelled loudest; he lost the attitude. I was fortunate, and I thanked him for coming around.
ReplyDeleteAlways nice to see hard work appreciated. Is there a video in the offing?
ReplyDeleteOh happy days in the 'village'!!
ReplyDeleteI'm really not meaning to be critical, John, but you were watching progress from the "sidelines," not the "sign lines." I don't know if this was a typo or whether you thought that this was the correct expression. If I'm a language snob, I beg your pardon.
ReplyDeleteBlame auto correct on iPad Scott.......I hate it
DeleteHow were the sullen teens lured into helping? That sounds a bit of a feat.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
The geese look sooooo happy...what fun for them!
ReplyDeleteAre we to help with names? what about Chicken Kiev?
ReplyDeleteExcellent sol?.....love it
ReplyDeleteDirty muddy water, yet the geese love it.
ReplyDeleteThat's great. Goose Down Pond.. ;-)
