I don't know how old she is John, but my decision to adopt a senior has not been an easy one or a very practical one. I adopted my boy at 12. He sweet and gentle, but he cast cost me a LOT of money is various surgeries and other vet bills. I also didn;t anticipate how often I needed a dog sitter or the "senior" behavior that is troubling him right now. It was and is a big effort and in hindsight I would have just kept fostering and found him a different home. But then again, I'm a softie and didn;t think any one would want an old dog.
Sending you a virtual slap on the back of your head. Then a pat on the shoulder. I think the heart wants what the heart wants, it's not always good for us. XXX
I have had two difficult dogs one after the other. Each had entrenched traits which were impossible to correct. It was bad, sad, stressful and guilt ridden. You are probably more able to give Poppy a good life than most but should you? Think very hard about what your life will be like as well as hers.
I think you're sorely tempted. I would be too, but consider the others and the way things are at home at the moment, and know she will be able to fit in relatively smoothly before your heart whizzes past your head.
It's so hard when you know there's room in your heart for another but a little voice in your head is talking sense and reason. Good luck with your decision. :-)
We all know where this is going to end up - and where indeed Poppy is going to end up. But if that's where it's going I don't 'blame' you one little bit.
You can never have enough dogs? Maybe you can never have enough OF dogs. But in the tiny (very chaotic) space we live in, one bouncy Labrador is definitely enough!
You are on the slippery slope!

You mean no-one else has been interested so it's back to St Francis of Trelawnyd?
ReplyDeletePulling at the heartstrings. The word is out in the Universe, and has your address. Come one come all, there is always enough love to go around.
