Olympic Organisation? Pah...piece of cake!....shame about the train

We are going to Broadstairs to attend Chris' nephew's christening very soon and I am in the process of organising babysitters.
Chris has no idea of the logistical nightmare involved in animal care, and just thinks that the animals will " sort themselves out" when their single " daddy bountiful" is away enjoying himself.
Thank goodness for good friends and family.
And so, my workload has been divided between six people, with my good friend Eirlys as back up should a poultry disaster happen
Cemetery expert Islwyn has responsibility for chickens and Bingley
Neighbour John F has taken over care of the Geese and ducks
A retired couple, The Barkers, have the special job of watching over the blind Rooster Cogburn
And Carole from down the lane will walk the two welsh terriers in conjunction with my sister , who will take George down to her house.
Bleeding Hell
And how long am I going away for, on this fantastic, relaxing and enjoyable break to Kent....?
Well I will tell you

34 hours!

Hey ho

Ps....
I am typing this bit from the luxury of the virgin train from Crewe to Euston....I have just about survived a somewhat horrendous journey along the North Wales Coast in a two carriage train filled to the gunnels with pissed race goers ( Chester Races today) and loud, foul mouthed holiday makers returning to Birmingham ......I felt positively civilised standing amid the rubbish strewn baggage, copies of take a break and the obligatory empty beer cans clutching my Marks & Spencer scotch egg!....
The low point of the journey so far was when a fat miserable child knocked over a small aquarium tank with a goldfish in it, just outside Chester !(and I am NOT kidding)
Hey ho

  1. You should have organised the Olympic security, you'd have done a better job than G4S!

  2. Hi John, I am one of your new followers, I sympathize with you on finding animal care. When asked if we are off on our hols I relpy with th cows and pigs have not yet decided on a destination. By the time a carer had read the list of instructions for our menagerie we would of been there and back and unpacked. Have a good break!

    1. Hello Ali
      Welcome.
I am typing this on the virgin train to London
And no I am not worrying about the animals just yet
      Give me time

  3. But this is my best excuse for staying at home.

May I add that I find the whole idea of signing-up some small child to an organised religion (of which he/she knows nothing), a tad bizarre!

So do I, Cro Magnon. Tell me about the little Cros: Were they splashed with holy water without their consent?

    2. Well the little boy is nearly 11 and it's his choice
So who am. I to judge

    3. I'd imagined a baby in christening robes etc.

No junior Cro's have been indoctrinated into anything, other than free thinking.

Yup, my best excuse for staying home, too...hubby goes, I stay to tend to our 6 fur monsters.

  4. How long did you say? 34 hrs. You sure did give me a good laugh. All I'm thinking about is what's gonna happen when you need to take a 2 week break, ha ha ha. You'll have the whole area on standby, ha ha ha ha.

Well, after my laugh, I thought, at least everyone one is being well taken care of, then I had to laugh again. Good for you John.

  5. I know that feeling and that's why we never go anywhere!

  6. We had years of never going anywhere, it just wasn't worth the effort, not only of the forward arrangements but catching up with things afterwards. Now, we go away separately.

  9. You are lucky (as you know) that you have so many willing helpers John. When I had two chickens it was difficult to find anyone willing to babysit them for a short while. I reckon that becuase you are such a giving person people give back to you in return. Maybe there is a lesson for me to learn there?

Next time just ask me, John. I'll sit your house and animals. In between talking to Jason, Aunt Gladys and putting spells on foxes. Could do with a holiday.

Have a great 36 hours. Who is counting?

  13. Coming to Kent are you? Take care ;-) no Broadstairs is nice one of my favorite places in Thanet. Don't get there enough now I don't work down in that area.

  14. Best remind Islwyn to wear his waders and be mindful about bending over, if he's responsible for Bingley. ;)

  15. You must sometimes wish you could just jump in the car (or the train?) without having to organise a mind-boggling back-up of helpers to keep all the "guests" happy. But then again, life without them would be a little dull....

And yes, I also find christenings a rather dubious tradition.

  19. I should have had my antennae finely tuned to pick up the J.G. vibes as you probably passed well within 50 miles of here. Come to think of it I DID feel particularly chirpy a few hours ago.

And I hope that little brat of a (presumably) fish-killer got a most severe admonishment for what he did - and, at the very least, will be made to go to bed tonight with NO supper!

  20. Try to wring some fun out of this trip.

We have a t-shirt that says basically, The more people I meet the more I like my dog.

  21. Did you rescue the goldfish and keep him with you? Albert would enjoy that as a souvenir when you return home.

  22. It takes an amazing amount of organization to go away with so many souls depending on us.....if you decide on a stateside barn tour give us a shout and we'll plan a trip to the home sland and we can swap farms!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I know a little of what you face. It's more work to get away than to stay home - but it's surprisingly refreshing to go away, so it must be done sometimes for one's sanity.

  24. Goodness, John.
It took six people to replace my hubby when he retired; and that was for more than a day...
I hope we have so many good friends if we ever want a day off after we finally get our 'menagerie'.

Hope the rest of your trip goes well, John! :-)

  25. Wow. You do the work of six people. You should be able to get lots of mileage from that.

    ReplyDelete
  26. That's an impressive workforce you have lined up...did you rescue the goldfish?

  27. I have no earthly idea how I am gong to live through leaving our assortment for 2 weeks while we are staying in UK/Scotland/Shetland Islands. 40+ Shetland sheep, 2 llamas, 1 alpaca, 3 horses, 2 guardian dogs (live with the sheep) 1 inside dog, 2 inside cats and 40 ish chickens. I am lucky to have excellent critter sitters that will be in charge, but I will worry endlessly.
Have a great time with your time away and try to relax enough to enjoy your visit.
