Larson Genius

  1. One of my all time fav Gary Lawson cartoons is his "Cat Fud" cartoon. It displays a dog hiding in a corner and behind an open dryer door tempting a cat inside with signs of "CAT FUD".

It also inspired people to take pictures of their cats looking into the dryer with similar signs (no dog included though).

    Gary Larson IS a genius!

    1. I love that one. Ever since then, we call "cat food" "cat fud", and that's how we write it on the shopping list

  2. P.S. I love the little dog at the coffeemaker!

I haven't seen that one before and it describes a sweet dog I had a few years ago perfectly!

    1. And don't forget the late much lamented Pogo Possum (going back a while, I know.)

    2. I don't know bloom country or Pogo Possum (perhaps they didn't make it to Oz) but agree wholeheartedly about the others.
My favourite Larson is one of his dorky kids (as only he can draw them) saying 'May I be excused, my brain is full.' And how that one resonated.
Loved the nervous dog - not one I knew.

    3. Loved Pogo! And the others mentioned as well. I still have a Bill the Cat t-shirt that i wear only on special occasions to preserve it for a bit longer.

  5. I love Lawson - shame he retired. There's a great one when two dogs pass in a car in Manhattan, with a nuclear explosion in the background and people screaming and panicking. They only have eyes for each other as they pass.

  8. LOVE The Far Side. My fav is of course the one with the stomach opening the fridge door with the caption, "Late at night, his own stomach would foil
Gordon's attempt at dieting." That was on our fridge for a long time!

Oh, John, why do you make me laugh early (bird which sings in the morning meeting its destiny, courtesy of cat, in the evening comes to mind).

I have a slightly different take on what cats hear or don't. I once (make that a number of times) executed a truly awful, yet scientifically significant, experiment. Here goes: You SHOUT at your cat the greatest possible endearments. You assure her of your undying love and devotion at high pitch, decibels rising. She sure will bolt through the cat flap.

Later, back on your lap, you deliver the worst possible character assassination, cursing her very existence, in a tender way with a soft and soothing voice, and what do you know: She'll purr. Come to think of it I should have made that into a circus act.

  15. Oh, dear Gary! And John, thank you for brightening my day immensely! My cat has positioned herself to look like the Sphinx crosswise on my recliner, making sure I see her in profile and that I can't fit on the chair. Hmph. Maybe I should show her one of the dog vs cat cartoons?

  17. Love those! Especially loving the nervous little dog as we have a nervous little rescue dog and I'm sure he has an espresso maker tucked away somewhere...
