I am not going to complain about our continued hot weather
But it does have a bit of a down side.
It took me almost 90 minutes to water Bosoms by hand this morning
And after a week of blistering hot sunshine all of the animals have become slow, lethargic and
And somewhat listless.
I have even had to lift some of the very elderly hens from their perches in the mornings
Egg production has tailed off,
The sheep now spend their lives in the cool of the hawthorn hedges
And the dogs are bickering with each other over dinner times.
Welsh animals are not used to long periods of old fashioned summer
My dear dear John, me too. I also don't complain about the hot weather. Despite the fact that living a stone throw from the coast the breeze will not cool despite all windows open. You want a draught? Don't come and visit me any time soon. Want standstill? Be my guest.
ReplyDeleteWhat an ungrateful lot we are: Give us months of rain, book or at least dream of a holiday - siesta included -, ten days into Britain's heatwave we seek shelter in the fridge. Do not fear: Come next April and we'll all be on water sprinkler ban again. Whilst drowning.
Kiss and cooling sweaty hug,
U
Well said Ursula baby
DeleteHa! My dogs are bickering over a casserole dish and the best seat in front of the fire. It's pissing down, grey, miserable and if I hear one more sodding whinge about the effing heatwave......
ReplyDeleteWhat a fickle bunch we are
DeleteStay cool. It is rough on all the living.
ReplyDeleteYou never catch me complaining when it's cold... so I'll say it - " It's too bloody hot !!! "
ReplyDeleteNever thought of Wales as being all that toasty. But then again, I'm huddled indoors with my fan here in Massachusetts at 93 degrees. I don't seem to have escaped my Oklahoma and Virginia childhood summers.
ReplyDeleteA new phrase for my lexicon-"I was so tired I had to be helped off my perch"
ReplyDeleteThis photo cracks me up! My hens have been a little lethargic lately as well. It is hot here, but their coop and run is shaded by lots of trees so that does help. But summers here are really hot and humid so they don't like it right now!
ReplyDeleteOh for some of your heat - I am shivering in 7 degrees C.
ReplyDeleteI feel like the elderly hens in the heat! Trouble is I don't have anyone to lift me off my perch!!
ReplyDeleteIt's cooled off for a few days up here thank goodness. Sunshine yes, excessive heat no.
ReplyDeleteHow hot does it have to be for you to complain about it? I swear I live in hell, a.k.a. Florida. It's hot and humid. We've had huge thunderstorms every day lately.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
We have had so many bloody awful summers over the last 5 years...I will never complain again
ReplyDeleteI'm refraining from complaining about the current heat wave; I wore out my welcome complaining of three weeks of rain. But it's so hot I don't take the children out to work in the garden until evening.
ReplyDeletemy 94 year old aunt lives in ireland. she is a nun and is bitching about the heat. we are in the 90's and humid as hell!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I first experienced unrelenting heat when we lived on Nevis, a small Caribbean island. Day after day we would set off walking jauntily down the dirt road to a tiny store at noon. Brutal. Not wise. Then we laughed at ourselves cuz we recalled "only mad dogs and Englishmen [and us] go out in the noon day sun."
ReplyDeleteStay cool.
It was 36 degrees here today..no breeze and killer humidity....but it beats walking on icy sidewalks and scraping off the car.
ReplyDeleteWhat? No AC in the coop?
ReplyDeleteIn the mid to upper 90's for me this week. Either we are getting raining floods or boiling dry heat. There is no in-between.
ReplyDeleteI like the neat old picture.
ReplyDeleteNothing I can say about the weather today, it isn't going to cool down until late September.
We have been working outside in the sun at 44C...I never complain about the heat on principle...winter is too long and too cold.
ReplyDeleteJane x
A fickle bunch we are, indeed, John.
ReplyDeleteHave a good one and stay cool!
Sounds like at least 5 months in Louisiana. We just wither.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I love the picture with the giant swan.
ReplyDeleteScorching temperatures make me kinda slow, listless, and lethargic, too. That picture is a real hoot. (Or should I say a honker?)
ReplyDeleteI don't complain about the heat (well okay maybe quietly and under my breath), but what I will complain about is my bl**dy cockerel, will someone please tell him that when it's 3am and dark it's not time to wake up his ladies for an early morning conversation!!
ReplyDeleteOr whatever he wanted them for :-)
Better get used t it, it's set to continue for the rest of the month apparently!Got my own problems here - The Open Golf Championships are being held a stone's throw from my house, most roads closed, including my route to work and parking cones from here to kingdom-come! On the upside, the local villages are now full of hot-looking American golfers, if that's your bag! I did manage to make my way to the Post Office yesterday so parcel in post to Trelawnyd!
ReplyDeleteSo many people dive right in Lawn Greetings and think that more is better . Not true . I have been self employed all my life . I have never had a job and work from home with my family. We can save you lots of time and money right from the get go .
ReplyDeleteWe're having hot and humid these week, too. And sun. After seeming weeks on end of grey days, i'm not complaining. It's hot, but i work in the coolest room in my house, and a pond, lake, and the ocean are within a 10-minute drive. So i work inside during the hottest part, and take a swim to cool off.
ReplyDeleteI love the photograph. Why do black and white photos look so classy. Reminds me of "Passport to Pimlico", or any one of those Ealing comedies.
ReplyDeleteAs for the weather: it gave us a UK Wimbledon champion and an English test victory, glorious county cricket, raw red shoulders, traffic jams on all roads to the coast and dripping ice cream. Perfect.
