Daryl & Carol: A brief moment of warmth amid the undead |
Thank goodness for YouTube.
After MIL went to bed ( suitably impressed she was with the sanitary state of the cottage BTW) I found a Spanish version of The Walking Dead Finale and enjoyed a zombie filled 45 minutes three days before it airs in the Uk.
How sad am I?
Now I think I must clarify just why I love this series, right here and right now.....
It is in fact that
the whole thing reminds me of those 1970 disaster movies of my youth......
Sure it's all a bit of a blood fest......and undoubtedly it panders to the teenage viewing public, but the small- group-of-varied-humanity that has to band together to survive the zombie apocalypse is basically a The Towering Inferno tale with undead gore thrown in......it's as simple as that!
* spoilers!
And so the finale had poor Andrea ( the civil rights lawyer) seen off by the nerdy but likeable zombiefied Milton,
Whilst the pantomime baddie Governer killed most of his own people in a hissy fit worthy of Joan Crawford
The prison group survived intact until series 4, which was nice........earth mother Carol held asperger Daryl's hand for a couple of seconds ( sweet) Hershel snitched on fledgling psychopath Carl and Rick finally stopped hallucinating ,which was a frigging blessing..........all this mental illness bored me titless
I enjoyed it......even though the whole thing was cut to hell in the editors room......
Hey. Ho......series 4 does not air until the autumn...............you will be zombie free until then..........
Good season ending huh? I would have loved to been a fly in the truck with the Gov.,Martinez and token henchman. Had to be the most awkward road trip ever. I see more death in season opener though.
ReplyDeleteAgreed.... I enjoyed it , but it was not the best episode ever.....
DeleteThe show needs some more balance..... And better writing for the female characters....but that was ever the way for 70s disaster movies
Awesome episode and sad ending for Andrea, but it was somehow fitting. Though I must have yelled at the tv 10 times "STOP TALKING AND PICK UP THE DAMN PLIERS!" Alas, she didn't hear me, ha.
ReplyDeleteSix months till it comes back. Ugh. I hear something about a BBC show coming (I think?) called "In The Flesh". Have you heard of it?
And you love it for the same reason I do, all those great disaster movies of our youth.
Andrea's character had run her course....... And in true ER style a new character of Karen has turned up to replace her
DeleteOctober! Do you get The Talking Dead over there? Sometimes a bit of a bore but, others not too bad. What portion is we get to say goodbye to all the zombies that were killed off. LOL
ReplyDeleteNo mike.. TWD. Runs 5 days after yours do
DeleteOh great now I have a deep urge to read Mommy Dearest ~ and Mummy Dearest just to keep me entertained for the next few months, what will we do without Zombies John!
ReplyDeleteGet depressed willow x
Deleteso happy you had your Zombie fix for the season :) and that all ended reasonably well.
ReplyDeletesay hello to your MIL...see I knew your home would be relatively spotless and your MIL be GRAND!!!
enjoy
The cottage looked lovely then William puked in the hall
Deletemust be why I love TWD too...those disaster movies in the 70's were the best...
ReplyDeleteHello to dear MIL...sounds like the ODR went well...
Have no interest in Zombies but loved 'Jericho' until the ijeets took it off the air...loved all the 70's post nuclear shows though.
ReplyDeleteJane x
Admittedly, I was expecting more actually fighting. Thought then, why didn't they just take over the town instead of going back to the prison? Though maybe it would be much safer at the prison, plus if they ever clear the yard of walkers, they may be able to plant veg.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that was a sweet moment between Carol and Darryl.
Carl - he's going to be a thorn in Rick's side if Rick doesn't slap that kid's ears back soon. I see patricide in their future.
Carl needs a psychologist and a slapped arse
DeleteI think you may well realise that I can relate to this posting. Oh the Walking Dead.
ReplyDeleteYes, this comment was typed in front of a dead studio audience. Must go now..........
WHAT??? Series 4 is not until Autumn???? I can feel the withdrawals hitting my system already! My ENTIRE family is addicted to this series. I love the study of humanity, in general. The re-building of civilization; the differences in leadership with those who lead via deception with plastered "I'll tell you what you want to hear, then I'll do as I damn well please behind your back," kind of attitude that we're facing with our leadership in America right now compared to "I know that I am human and can't always make the right decision, so we must all vote and be culpable together because, as a leader, I can't have a voice louder than yours;" and the study of self-preservation, then group preservation with roles carefully determined for all areas of daily life and survival - back to female/male roles for nurturing/physical strength etc whether we like it or not - except for Andrea and her need to be ON TOP of the camper; the story of hope in life moving forward even when you are faced with all hope fading; and I love the concept of family...that it means more than blood.
ReplyDeleteI love this series, but you have topped my addiction by searching out the Spanish version. You have such awesome eagerness to see an episode that should award you with a zombie role because of your dedication! I don't know if your part of the world is doing this, but our channel has been re-playing the entire series in black and white.
And I just wrote on my Facebook yesterday that anyone trying to walk into my house without letting me know beforehand might get MERLED.
WHAT ARE WE TO DO UNTIL AUTUMN???

DeleteThe parallels between TWD and dehumanising behaviours in today's world is intentional me thinks.... It makes for an interesting debate.........
Glad to hear MIL was impressed, John.
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday to you!
I've never seen this show mentioned on any of the channels I receive. It must be on very late at night, or only shown on Telly Welly Wales.
ReplyDeleteYou would hate it cro..... Not a civilised bottle of red wine in sight
DeleteJohn I loved it as well, can't wait for season 4. I agree with Lana, how can we wait until Autumn?
ReplyDeleteJo xx
I watched 1 and a half episodes of season 2 last night and sadly it just doesn't do it for me. I'll stick with my Criminal Minds/X Files/CSI unhealthy obsessions for now :o)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait til the next season. It's going to be a long summer!
ReplyDeleteI asked my hubby to tell me the final episode story line, JUST FOR YOU! Now I find that you were able to watch it on YouTube. Thanks a lot.
ReplyDeleteOh dear xxx
