Old People And Pets

Yesterday was Bright and warm, unlike today which is cold and damp, and I was glad of having the berlingo as I called over to the RFWF's farm with some flowers for his family. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at the large marble church in nearby Bodelwyddan ( go on pronounce that one) I suspect a large number of fellow red faced Welsh Farmers will be attending and our tiny church here in Trelawnyd just cannot cater for a large congregation.....especially if the weather is somewhat "difficult"

Another funeral to attend...it's the way of the world when you have older friends I suppose....I am reminded of what one of the youngest  and shall we say, less sensitive of my colleagues said to me yesterday morning... She said "Knowing Old people is a bit like keeping pets...you don't have them for very long"
Out of the mouth of babes.

Later this week I am off to London to see best friend Nuala. it has been a long standing arrangement which could not have come at a better time. It will be therapeutic to have a change of scene for a day or so.

Anyway, this morning, I let the new birds out of their run in order to join the main flock. I am not a lover of ' fluffy hens' I prefer a more bog standard sort of bird. but the silkies, I must admit are striking looking birds.....
The RFWF would have disliked these frou-frou characters too....
Perhaps some of his no nonsense approach to life has rubbed off on me after all

  2. Sorry to hear about your friend John. I know the 'marble' church. Once stayed a week at Bodelwyddan Castle. I remember the Canadian soldiers graves from the first world war. The church acoustics will be incredible for such a fitting place to say farewell to your friend.

  4. I'm sorry to hear about your friend the RFWF. I always enjoyed hearing about him and what he was up to.

.... and um, those silkies may look completely ridiculous, but they will sit on any egg you give them if they go broody. And they make really good mothers. Or at least the ones I've known have been that way.

  5. We get at that age where there seem to be many funerals to attend to. You have green grass as we were once again covered with white last evening.

A little bit of everyone we know (hopefully the best part) becomes a part of us.

  7. Yes, he has definitely rubbed off on you. That's how we of strong character maintain a bit of our presence on this earth after we're gone.

  8. And you know you're getting older when you find yourself attending more family funerals than weddings ... I speak from experience :( Had a scare this week with our elderly cat but, happily, the vet is now several of our hard-earned pounds better off and our little old lady lives to die another day :)

Oh, and I think your new silkies are absolutely gorgeous - the glamour girls of the henhouse : ))

  10. The silkies still can't compete with Phyllis Diller. And to think Rooster Cogburn can't see her marvellous plummage but loves her all the same.

If you look at the heart rather than the trappings, it doesn't matter whether it's frou-frou or plain.

  11. Beautiful silkies, John... you have to admit, those fuzzy bottoms put a little smile on your face, don't they... *giggle*

  12. I had to look back at your blogs, as I had no idea what you were on about. I spent most of yesterday in the emergency room with my hubby who strained his shoulder severely while we were dismantling a building a neighbor is giving us.

I didn't get a chance to read blogs.

Wow. So many friends passing on.

Sympathies and prayers to all who knew him. *hugs* ♥
