Mr Crowe Can Sing!( well just a little)

Well
he Can sing! That big hunk of a bad tempered Aussie!
Love Les Mis or hate it...the stage production that has wowed audiences all over the world has almost hit the big screen.
I must admit, I was dubious when I heard of the plans to bring the musical to the big screen , but the trailer looks wonderful!
( even if the waif Eponine looks all big haired and busty!)
Anyway I thought I would leave you all with this early morning whistle fest
I am off to shampoo the carpets!!!!!!!
William, me thinks has been eating Albert's mice again
we have fur lined shits all over the house

  1. It's not a show I've ever fancied seeing - but if Hugh Jackman's in it I might reconsider......

(Of course, they could have done a "Singing in the Rain" on any of the big names and we'd be no wiser. )

  2. I think I'd have to hear a smidgeon more of his 'singing' to pass judgement.

  3. I've not seen the stage production...but may well be tempted by the film. Fur lined shits sound almost attractive...

  4. I've mentioned before that Les Mis, which I've seen three times in London, gives me more shivers of pleasure than ANY other musical (and I've seen or I know LOTS of 'em) - and that's an awfully big claim to make when it's competing against all the Rodgers & Hamms/Harts, Cole Porters, Jerry Hermans, Frank Loessers, Lerner & Loewe's, Lionel Barts, not to mention, as we must, Andrew L.W.s - and, of course, all those wonderful Sondheims - as well as so many more I could name. Though I may wish otherwise by pointing to something with a bit less 'popular' appeal and more obscure, it is true and I can't pinpoint why. Sounds like I'm apologising for liking it at all, but I most certainly DO love it enormously.
Looking forward to the film with mixed feelings, though largely positive. Certainly the trailer looks lavish and promising but I suppose my biggest apprehension will be in discovering which numbers are going to be edited or cut out completely, as is just about always the case with filmed musicals.
On the other hand, one of the biggest pluses for me (as is recognised by your first contributing comment above) is the appearance of the super-hot Mr Jackman. That alone will make it the price of the ticket.

(We'll compare notes in Jan, J.G.!)

    1. ....or maybe even December. Better take a full box of Kleenex MAN-size with me. I was getting seriously misted over just watching that trailer!

    2. hugh jackman has a wonderful singing voice. I saw him in the revival of Oklahoma years ago ( before he was famous on screen) and he could belt out a cracking tune

    3. I saw him in that too, J.G. Wasn't it also Alfred Molina as Jud? (before he also became a big name). Jud is such a thankless part to play - always gets a big 'boo' at the curtain call, especially at matinees when there are lots of kids in the audience.
But that first time I saw the lovely Hugh I was smitten straight away. Couldn't keep my eyes off him slinking around the stage like a purring cat, and even showing off his terpsichorean skills - and, of course, he has such a magnificent singing voice. Few can touch him. (Oh, if only I could!)

  7. I have seen the trailers and have always loved the story and music. It opens on Christmas and I hope to see it soon after. I think the theaters will be crowded.

  8. In our area we would have to travel 100 miles North to see the stage production but on film we could see locally....William is getting famous for bad reviews :)

  9. O M G - The William does rather blot his copy book (or rather the carpets) - good job you love him. Obviously he has developed a taste for fresh mouse.

  10. Oh well, I guess I'll have to go to Youtube. NBC Universal won't let me watch it from Spain!

  12. Judith, I can't even watch it from Scotland!!Russell Crowe has had his own band for years. Hugh Jackman's a fox....though 'Australia' wasn't his finest hour.

  13. I agree with Raybeard, i loved Les Miz. I also loved the book, and usually when i love a book, i don't care for other media telling the story. Whilst the film can perhaps give a greater visual spectacle, i doubt its energy can match the play.

That still of Eponine looks like a model wanting to dip her toe into waifdom. The two second warble we heard from Mr Crowe is too short to determine if he can carry a tune, although i must say, when he's wearing that Master and Commander navy blue, there's a goodly amount i can forgive. (Shallow, i know, but true nonetheless.)

  14. I can';t watch it either but I'm looking forward to it. Les Mis is my all time favourite musical.
I know Russel is a bad tempered, big headed git but in my opinion he is a very good actor and I'm sure he'll fit the bill.... and as for our Hugh - a lovely man in many senses of the word, a fine actor and a GREAT singer (and dancer).
I csan't wait to see it.

Hugh Jackman: hot hot hot@! Russell Crowe: not so much.
