No! surprising as it may seem my Olympic crush was NOT any members of this rowing team
My Olympic Crush hails from the Stockholm Olympics of 100 years ago!
Have a look at the beaming winner of the joint 100 metre relay ( second from the left)
at 19 seconds of this short EDF video
It shows Victor D'Arcy literally bursting with pride
and I thought he was a bit of an old dish!
Love the Uniform shirt too! much more impressive than Stella's modern day efforts!
Oh well, I suppose I cannot cast any nasturtiums, what with my Brazilian beach volleyball pics...
ReplyDeleteI cannot let you monopolise the "dirty old man" handle Thomas!
ReplyDeleteActually swimmers have the best bums. I was involved with the sponsorship of national club swimming championships many years ago and can verify that the young Adrian Moorhouse and his team colleagues looked fantastic in jeans at breakfast. He later won Gold at the Seoul Olympics and is currently a commentator for BBC London 2012.
ReplyDeleteBut agree about the simple but strikingly effective national uniforms of the past. As also shown in the docu-drama 'Bert and Dickie' about an 1948 Olympic rowing team.
I love that the chap in the black pants has them pulled right up to nipple line. And bring back diving through barrels as an Olympic sport, I say.
ReplyDeleteI felt sure you were going to be writing about the Thorpedo!
ReplyDeleteVery dashing but his waist must be under his armpits judging by how high his trousers are pulled up. Nice bum in the first shot!
ReplyDeleteDi
I favour the swimmers also!!
ReplyDeleteGill in Canada
u mucky pup gill
ReplyDeleteThese are great John.
ReplyDeleteIncorrigible! But I'm sharing that excellent historical vid with with friends. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWait, isn't EDF Electrite de France? Heheh...
ReplyDeleteIf I didnt know better I would swear the guy in the blue shorts was honeyman :O). Nice buns and nice thighs.
ReplyDeleteLooks a lot my my Naval basic training! (sans moustaches)
ReplyDeleteJane x
Have you watched any water polo? Very interesting.
ReplyDeleteLove the video.
ReplyDeleteIs that Lord Snowdon on the right? Those dark shorts are fabulous.
ReplyDeleteNice video - it was a bit like that on our village green, when we celebrated the Queen's Jubilee, a few weeks ago.
ReplyDeleteThis made me smile John. It also brought to mind Carol Midgley in today's Times 2. She writes of various muscles etc. and ends by saying that there is a picture of the Polish cycling team a few years ago which is doing the rounds at the moment - which looks as though they are smuggling in not budgies but a whole pigeon loft along with a string of brassicas.
ReplyDeleteShe prays for an alternative to Lycra by the time of the next Olympics - expect you won't agree with this though.
Great video. (But, sometimes Spandex IS flattering).
ReplyDeleteDid you see the Stella interview where she said she couldn't get a logo on Tom Daley's 'little thingy'...
ReplyDeleteHockey players have powerful, well developed lower bodies as well.
ReplyDeleteAs for the uniforms, i find simplest is often best.
