Revolving Doors

I didn't really want to be responsible for another Mabel blog, but today my little world yet again has been concentrated down into vet assessments and the caring of a sick animal.
Today's medical findings were of no surprise.
I was right, and take no pleasure in it.
Mabel's infection is still there
New Antibiotics have been prescribed and a inconclusive abdominal scan performed
A neurological check at my request showed she has lost her proprioception of her back left leg.
Proprioception as any old spinal Injury Nurse will tell you, is the body's ability to know where it is
Whatever the cause
The outcome is potentially serious.
She is too sick to be sedated for xrays at present, The vet wants to do those on Tuesday. My job is to keep her going with subcutaneous steroids, antibiotics and fluids until then.
She looks poorly

  3. I'm sorry, John. I know caring for a sick pet is always stressful; even worse if you're expecting a bad outcome. Mabel is lucky to have an experienced nurse looking after her.

I do hope you are able to keep her going, and i've no doubt the love she has felt whilst living with you makes her want to stay around.

John, I've just poured over the last couple weeks worth of posts to fill in on all that little Mabel has been going through. I've fallen so far behind with my blog-rounds that I didn't learn until now she was ill. I'm so sorry. I can only imagine how uneasy you must feel after losing Constance and Maddie, and how painful it is to watch her struggle so. Needless to say, I'm sending multiple dreams of slobbery kisses, roasted chicken parts, and poultry harassing to Mabel, and my deepest wish for continued calm, deep sleep, and a robust outcome for you both.
    Love, Dia

Until your Mabel came into my life I wouldn't have believed that a bulldog (in Wales) would, one day, mean something to me.

As I have to amend my last will and testament - writing to my solicitor later today - I will stipulate that, should you so be willing, I would like to be cared for by you, John, when the time comes and on my way out.

Give the girl a gentle pat (no, not me: Mabel),
    U

  60. Oh John, and just when I thought things were improving. It is a good job you are a nurse and at least can nurse her properly and administer the drugs when they should be administered.
Let's hope her will to live and her inner strength pulls her through. Love to you from here in the Dales.

  61. good luck to you both.... if my course of antibiotics were anything to go by, you're gonna be pretty busy for a while!! Rubber gloves at the ready nurse!! Keep us posted.

She is in the best of care and I and others thank you for that.

    Much love.
