Yesterday I was given a new small chicken coop with its own run.. it was a kind of providence!
Today two Hens were "cornered " by a particularly aggressive guinea fowl and battered within an inch of their lives
I found my only Rhode island red ( Shirley) somewhat bruised and bloody behind the feed bins..so I placed her in her own run with the continually bullied Phyllis! ( below) and they sat there together like two old pals that had met through friends reunited, content, happy and "un stressed"
Phylis (right) has never been liked by the bog standard welsh hens |
Everyone needs a friend......don't they?
Chickens seem quite a nasty bunch...worse than grade school girls. That Phyllis is quite adorable.
ReplyDeletePoor Shirley ... by the way, John.
ReplyDeleteWe bought chicken wire in the Fall for a great price to make a huge run out of to Free Range some more Meat Birds this Spring. I think the first of March orders start going in.
Chickens can be so ugly to each other but then so can goats!
ReplyDeleteChickens are nasty little creatures.
ReplyDeletePerfect timing...the pen came just when it was needed.
ReplyDeleteHope they will be okay now.
ReplyDeleteHow dare you name a Rhode Island Red after my wife! You bounder! Henceforward and in revenge, I shall call our toilet bowl the john!
ReplyDeleteChickens are brutal!! But delicious!
ReplyDeleteYes they do.... and they've found a good one in you!
ReplyDeleteCheers
It's always good to have a friend.
ReplyDeletePoor Phyllis looks awfully raw :(

Yes, those darn Guinea fowl can be very aggressive.
ReplyDeleteI hope everyone is okay. Phyllis is really cute.
ReplyDeleteThe coop came at the right time. Phyllis definitely has her own look.
ReplyDeleteNot much comradeship amongst our feathered friends then. Luckily my 3 are good buddies; they need to be.
ReplyDeleteThat guinea hen would be in the freezer at my place!
ReplyDeletePoor Shirley...
Yes, John, everyone needs a friend (or two). Preferably one who doesn't tar us when already feathered.
ReplyDeleteIf it's any comfort to Phylis: She has potential to be the Zandra Rhodes of the chicken world.

ReplyDeleteI can see that Phyllis and Shirley will have a lot in common, they both like 'big hair' for a start. May they enjoy many a happy and peaceful day together.
ReplyDeletePoor Phyllis! She looks very battered and bruised. I'm sure she will have a much happier life now.
ReplyDeleteThey'll be off to the bingo together next . . . Phylis looks ready ;-)
ReplyDeleteI am glad they have each other.
ReplyDeleteHow could anyone bully Phylis?!
ReplyDeleteIt's jealousy, pure and simple. Phyllis is the one making the fashion statement and Shirley is getting in the neck because she's her plain and dumpy best friend. Women can be so bitchy!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you've solved another problem in the Chook Garden John!
ReplyDeleteThere's no peace for you, is there???
Chooks can be so incredibly cruel.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they will start a glee club?
Awww, these two look very sweet together!
ReplyDeleteThat Phyllis is never ever going to win a beauty contest...no wonder she needs a friend
ReplyDeleteWhat sort of chicken is poor phyllis?
ReplyDeleteOH MY!!! Poor little dear. Hope the chicken feels better soon. xo
ReplyDeletedan she is a frizzle cross
ReplyDeleteEspecially at times like this, a friend is good to have.
ReplyDeleteSorry not to be around and commenting for a while. I've been embroiled in in a mixture of personal, work and writing stuff for a couple of weeks.
ReplyDeleteWhat an astonishing looking hen!
mark....
ReplyDeletealways a pleasure hearing from you
Glad the coop arrived just when needed!
