The Slow March Of Time? naw.... it's more of a bloody gallop!

Leo and Meg
Chris' nephew Leo is 9 today.
So I am sending him mucho birthday greetings from all of us in North Wales, and a big hug from all of the dogs who bonded so delightfully with him on his last couple of visits.

Surrogate children (ie dogs) never seem to age much. Ok they are puppies one minute, complete with rubber legs, prehensile tongues and weak bladders. Then the next moment you look at them they are the adults they remain for the decade or so, you are lucky enough to have them.

Children on the other hand have that amazing ability to make you feel old.....I remember Leo as a baby.....now he had nearly reached double figures! I remember my own nephew Chris as an eight year old playing with his Star Wars figures on the lounge carpet at home as if it was only yesterday .....only to realise that he now a strapping thirty something with a lovely newborn baby called  Evie all of his own!

When I was a kid,  my own uncles and aunts all looked "ancient",( mind you everyone in the 1970's looked old did they not?).....now despite my self deluded belief that my combat pants and trainers are actually keeping me looking "trendy" and "youthful".....I now realise that in the eyes of Leo and perhaps little Evie.......I do indeed look like an old fart Uncle.....one with a fat arse, a white goatee and  bad knees

hey ho!

BTW
Quiz Result Disaster! Last night the Trelawnyd 2 ( Jason and I) went to The Crown in an effort to maintain our lead over the infamous Dyserth 5 at the village Pub Quiz............we managed a somewhat piss poor fourth position to their near hysterical first place position ( I was convinced an ambulance would have to be called to collect the more delicate members of their group).....the gauntlet has now well and truly been thrown down.......................
May the war begin

  1. Mine too - though I like to think I'm younger than springtime...

  2. It's catching sight of my reflection in a shop window that gets me every time. 'Who's that old grey-haired git? Oh, it's me.'

  3. What I am more astounded by, when I look at old photos, is how incredibly young I looked in the 70s...a mere child!
I think you and Jason better start cracking the books if your reputation is not to be sullied at the pub!

  8. I am feeling"where has the time gone" a lot lately. It may have something to do with the fact that my 14 year old is 6 ft tall and loves to pat me on the head and call me his short little momma!Wasn't it just yesterday I was caring him around on my hip?! I love the "I smell old people"!

Hubby was saying last night that when he looks back at his younger years it's like watching a movie he's never seen before. Who is that fresh young thing? To me it feels like a dream. Was it real? Now when I look in the mirror I see my ancestors as I remember them in their later years. Dum dum dum dummmmmmmm.

  11. One step forwards four back on the quiz front. A tactical retreat, or are you just lulling them into a false sense of security.

I'm not getting older, the kids are just getting younger!

  12. Oh yes kids do have a way of making one feel a bit old LOL. With no effort on their part at all LOL.

  15. Age is all in the mind. If only I could recall what my age actually is. Maybe if I ask at Reception they'll have it on file... and while I'm there I can check on my name too.

Hey - anyone know where Reception is and why I wanted to go there?

  17. Getting old wouldn't be so bad if just weren't so relentless. And there just doesn't seem to be enough time for all the naps I need. I remember a few years ago now my eldest son said to me lovingly, "I remember when I was little and you picked me up from school and I thought you were the most beautiful Mom anyone had!" And I thought, "WERE, what do you mean, WERE..."!

Hey ho indeed! My son was born 46 years ago today...how 'old farty' does that make me feel(and him)?!!! However, I wasn't thinking of oldness that day, mainly I was yelling "let me push, let me push!"

Ahhhh the pub quiz, the challenge has been made and the gloves are off, open up the books and study hard men!

  21. Love that sign! The sad news is grandchildren grow up even faster than children. Amazing, but true. What's that they say about life? It's like a roll of toilet paper; the closer you get to the end, the faster it goes.

  22. Belated happy birthday to Leo. John talking of your aunts and uncles looking ancient. I looked in the mirror in town today and I looked ancient - 'fraid it comes to us all one way or another.

  23. I don't know about you, but I'd rather be the age I am right now than have to be in my 20's all over again! I like being old.

hi John, thanks for visiting my blog today! I came by to see if you thought I was Wendy in the Halloween Party photo...if you did, actually, I'm Captain Hook, with the fake moustache and all. (a little boy at the party thought I was a man and invited me out to the back yard to throw a ball back and forth. he still didn't know I was female till I told him I was a grandma, really messed with his mind...LOL)

  28. I used to wear a badge that put my Sugar Daddy's role into perspective: it said Old Fart's Wife. Now that he's gone I could cross out the 'Wife' and start wearing it again.
