Forgive the extra blog today. I have come in to get warm,
The frost of this morning has given way to a damp muggy and cold afternoon, and my bones are feeling their age.
When I was mucking out the hens earlier, I noticed village elder Islwyn and his brother beavering away in the Churchyard, so I ambled over to take a look at what he was up to.
Without payment or instruction, he had procured some quality turf and had given the old Churchyard wall a bit of a well needed makeover and I must admit that the end result looks wonderful.
These "let's get it done" blokes are a bit of dying breed I am am afraid to say. They see a job that needs doing for the benefit of the community; they get off their arses and they jolly well sort it.....for them, there's very little use in just talking about a project. For them the proof of the pudding is simply in the eating
I just wanted to big Islwyn up just a little today.
Its a job well done
It does look like a good job and I bet they feel good about that!
ReplyDeleteThumbs up, guys!
It looks lovely. I'm sure the entire community will appreciate it.
ReplyDelete"Bigs" all around.
definitely a job well done and without a committee...one of my Mom's momisms "if you see a job that needs to be done, do it (or the wrath of God will descend on your rear end)"
ReplyDeleteWow ! Bravo. We need more peps like this in the world.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful, stone wall! I have always loved stone walls. I tried to build one myself but never got past the second layer.
ReplyDeleteI'd hate to have to MOW the one in your photo!
It looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThe wall is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThere is a movie. from the '80s I think. called "Big Eden." A fantasy small town in the western USA where everyone chipped in, no one was excluded, people weren't judged, being gay was a non-issue (like I said, a fantasy small town in the USA). But is it possible you live in Big Eden, Wales?
Looks great! Thank goodness for people like the elder Islywn and his brother.

Trying to educate my fellow condo owners about the need for this type of action. Too many people think living in a community means the 'other guy' will take care of everything...I'm bringing them around...slowly!
ReplyDeleteI am surprised that the council did not pick them up and fine them for not wearing flourescent safety jackets.
ReplyDeleteI mean, there is a man standing on a wall almost as high as, well, a man. Where are his safety restraints?
He is using a wheelbarrow, has he done the course? Do they have the paperwork to prove the safe provenence of the turf? Do they have the third party liability insurance to compensate the citizen that may trip on a sod of dislodged turf?
And who will be liable if, as a result of these two reckless individuals loading up a wall with thousands of tonnes of turf without first obtaining an environmental impact survey from a council certified structural engineer, the wall collapses?
John, I think it is absolutely correct for you to bring such anarchic and irresponsible behaviour to our attention.
Next we will have people planting daffodils on council vergeways.
You certainly don't need to apologize.
ReplyDeleteThey did a fantastic job.
We can only hope that people who 'want to make the world better' will step in and take over where people like them leave off.
Well done those men,the wall looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteTop bloke.
ReplyDeleteA brilliant job - well done to both of them. PS we're suffering from frost bite here as well. Log fires and batten down the hatches time
ReplyDeleteGet'er done, eh. Lovely to see.
ReplyDeleteLeave it to the 'old-timers'! They are probably wondering what all the fuss is about!
ReplyDeleteLooks just lovely John!
ReplyDeleteIt looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteFantastic job! Beautiful. I agree, it is difficult the find people anymore that just do the job and get it done.
