Thank you's

A few thank you's are in order
First I must thank John (murphyfish) and his wife Claire for donating their old chicken coop to the small Ukrainian village that has spring up on my field.
"Poultry Towers" will be a welcome addition , especially given the news that Hazel's old hens are due to be retired here in the next week or so.
It was very kind of John to set up this slightly retro/mock Tudor construction on his day off.....thank you

My second thank you is to the lady from the local store and garage, who called around last night with a huge bin bag of bread for the animals. It was very kind of you to think of their welfare and to obviously go out of your way to drop the food off to me.... thank you

And my final thank you, is to providence for giving me this lousy cold.
I felt so ill last night that I stalked off to bed in the spare room at 9pm, complete with lemsips, cough linctus and a box  of tissues
.......I missed Strictly Come Dancing...How fortunate was that?  Thank you Providence

I don't think that even I could quite have coped with the camp fest that was Russell Grant....
(When I looked at it briefly on i player this morning) I have never seen anything so camp as this since my friend John danced Living la veda Loca  on the dance floor of the Cossack in Sheffield

Still full of cold and working tonight... wish me luck

  1. Good Luck with that cold of yours. How I admire you being so focussed with all your animals. I have the land but not the inclination.
I've just noticed that you have the same worldy wallpaper (is that what it's called?) as my daughter has for her blog :-)

  2. Sorry about your cold but your comment about Russle Grant made me giggle. What with him & Craig camping it up & I hear there is trouble among the " more mature " ladies.
Lulu was " A Disaster dahlink " what a shame I had high hopes from her !

  3. I believe that we women cope with colds so much better than you male weaklings - it's all to do with the double x chromosome, you know. We're just better designed. :)

  5. You have such good and generous friends, it says a lot about you too. Thanks for the clip it was hilarious, especially given our tediously slow internet connection; it kept freezing Russell in the most unfortunate poses!

Fenugreek is what you need to fight the cold, by the way.

  6. He's quite good at horoscopes too, I am told.

  7. I'm almost afraid to visit your blog John, because your cold sounds just awful, and I don't want to catch it!

The kindness of people is always a step towards feeling better~~Take care!

  8. Did you know that there are people in the USA who say "thank yous" when they are thanking more than one person? (i.e., "thank you, Mr. Smith" but "thank yous, Mr. & Mrs. Smith") So glad you weren't doing the same!

Anyway... I had to look up who Russell Grant was so I can be sure to avoid him in the future. It was like watching a train wreck.

Hope you're feeling better! (After that video... I'm not well!)

  10. We missed Strictly due to having visitors - now I can't wait to see it on Iplayer. Good on him for having a go, but I was dismayed that Vincent and Flavia were paired with the two duffers, which means we don't really get to see properly what fabulous dancers they are.

I hope your cold gets better soon.

  11. I was watching the archeology programme on Beeb 2 while this was on - may have a look on i-player.

What Russell has over the straight macho guys is that even if he can't actually dance, he's not afraid to move his arms.

Speaking of i-player, one of my illicit treats is watching the Beechgrove Garden, despite living in London. Jim is so subtly camp it's an absolute scream.

And this morning we watched Wales on Wheels - the less dark side of Welsh humour. Doubt anyone else east of Hereford has watched that either.

  13. Usually if I want to see pantomime, I go to see Jack and the beanstalk or Puss in boots, NOT The Man in the White Suit.

  14. Love Poultry Towers...when do Basil and Sybil check in?

The only redeeming quality of that dance extravaganza was the studied look of concentration on Russell's face!

Sorry this cold/flu-ey thing is getting you down...time, rest, fluids...you know the drill.

Nice gifts! Can't beat that, it's always nice when friends think of you.

  17. Some days [today] I stop by your blog and wonder if I have receptive aphasia . . lemsips, cough linctus, Stictly Come Dancing, I never can tell if your towns are misspelled let alone how to pronounce them, who is Russell? everyone else seems to know Russell [thank god for Mitch!]
What does shine thru is that you love your animals and people who know you love you. That's good enough for me. Hope work sailed by on the wings of cold meds and that you are back snug in your bed.
    Feel better. xo linda

  19. I like to think I was thinner and considerably more stylish. By the way, it looks like I'll be acting again soon.

  20. I would like to offer thank you's to everyone who helped out, too! That is wonderful!

However being sick is not wonderful. Don't forget the 'Jewish penicillin' - Chicken broth. It's good for you when you're sick.

    Get well, soon, John!

  22. Sorry you are still full of cold. I am wishing you luck here as you requested and also saying that I saw Russell Grant and I rather think he was wearing sequinned pyjamas.

  23. Well I'm happy to say I didn't miss last night's Strictly (or tonight's) and loved Russle's dance. It was so funny and his facial expressions creased me up!

I'm sorry you're still unwell, good luck at work tonight.

  25. I thought that dance video was sexy in a disturbing kind of way. He gave it all he had (pound for pound).

Hope that you will feel better soon!!

  27. Once you feel better John, you must get some Fenugreek in stock.....forget the rest of that stuff! We have been using it for years and it works to relieve the symptoms and mucus. I agree with 'Pear Tree' lady on this one!
Hope you are feeling better soon.
