Phone Calls

How things change in the blinking of an eye.
This morning I have had three phone calls over a rapidly cooling cup of coffee.
The first was Chris, who is still working away in London.
The second was an elderly lady who somewhat tearfully asked if I would 'adopt' her small flock of hens, as her frail husband could no longer look after them
And the third was a lovely conversation with a lady in Liverpool who wants to find a loving home for her five year old female bulldog.
" The Jungle Telegraph" is an amazing thing.

The upshot of the conversations were:-
I will be picking Chris up from the station at 7pm
I will go and look at the elderly lady's hens this morning( with my hen crate in the boot)
And the lady with the bulldog bitch will bring her over to see us on Tuesday

hey ho

  11. Wow. More eggs to give away in the spring. Do your chickens lay all winter, John?
I do hope you all get along well with the bull dog.

  16. Goodness, you have such a vast menagerie already, and you're ready to take on a flock of hens. A glutton for punishment!

  17. OMG! You really are the most generous soul. In the spring you may have to acquire more land.....but wait, if you wait a bit I am sure someone will give it to you! So good to know someone like you John.

  18. I am thinking Angel Constance has had a hand in the bulldog inquiry.

The hens: never ever a dull moment for you!

Looking forward to the "results show..."

  19. We just get animals dumped here in the preserve (most of which, alas, succumb quickly to coyote predation). You've got a real dilemma, John, because there's an endless supply of animals that need care and attention.

  20. Scott, I an not totally altruistic
These bald hens are young, healthy and will be good layers when they finish moulting, they will replace my old girls who have all stopped laying

  21. Fostering: Foster homes provide temporary shelter and care for animals who presently have absolutely no where to live. We will continue to look to permanent homes for these pets but fostering keeps them safe, and provides comfort and security, until they can be adopted.
    *does not apply to Chris

I agree with Tom...surely you qualify for some kind of assistance to help you feed and shelter your animals! Happy to know you have the future in mind with the arrival of the "new" chickens...more eggs since the "older gals" aren't laying! And a lady Bulldog...excellent! With all the excitement don't forget to fetch Chris home!
