My computer gave up the ghost yesterday.
All I have been left with is a black screen, a few unless instructions, and a whole load of frustration.
But that's the way of our modern world sometimes;- we rely on these little cubes of technology just that little bit too much dont we?
Of course I will continue to blog, but I am now using Chris' work computer until mine can be resurrected or binned, so will have to dovetail into his routine somewhat.....

Anyhow, last night I went to see a re run of the 1976 Spanish Film
Raise Ravens... a wonderful and melancholy little film about a sad, little girl surviving life without her beloved mother (Geraldine Chaplin) by living in her own lonely little world.
It's a kind of like Pan's Labyrinth without the monsters.
The film was enlivened by three middle aged Spanish ladies who sat behind me ( who said North Wales wasn't a cultural melting pot?)
Obviously they identified with all of those cultural and personal ques within the film ,so when the little girl played her favourite record or sang her favourite song, the ladies would all join in, but would do so in a polite but ever so excited whisper.
So I kept my gob, uncharacteristically shut
So I kept my gob, uncharacteristically shut
Usually I find such behaviour unacceptable , and am not at all shy in letting such "culprits" know the fact, (firmly and loudly), but in this case, I found their obvious pleasure at re living a childhood that must have seemed a million miles away from a damp night in a North Wales Cinema rather amusing.
The film although excellent, needed a bit of a lift anyway
It sounds as if North Wales has a lot going on if you know where to find it. Don't you hate it when technology lets you down? Pencil and paper are so much more reliable but useless for blogging.Good for Chris who let you borrow a computer.
ReplyDeleteGeraldine Chaplin is one of the loveliest people I ever spoke to...
ReplyDeleteHurrah for Chris,in allowing your blog to go on undeterred. Sending you a joy bringing hug... x
ReplyDeleteThat's a shame about your computer John...makes me realize how lost I'd be without mine. Thank heaven's you've got Chris's to use for the time being. That was cute about the 3 little Spanish ladies. Hope your day is getting brighter.
ReplyDeleteMaura :)
You never know: your tolerance towards the Spanish trio, may be the beginning of a new way. I am discovering that tolerance is an effect of ageing, but yep, so is intolerance. Oops it's nearly Midnight. Bedtime and Goodnight.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the computer John...frustrating.
ReplyDeleteI once crept into the cinema on a rainy afternoon to catch a matinee. Had the entire place almost to myself. As I settled in, three teenage boys came, arms loaded with popcorn and drinks, and I groaned internally as they sat right behind me. I braced myself, ready to become the wicked step-mother and babysit them through the movie. Not one peep...the three of them were so enrapt by the movie (can't remember what it was), they even ate quietly. So we spent a very pleasant couple of hours in companionable silence.
If the movie is slow, find your excitement in the crowd.

ReplyDeletePob lwc to the Welsh XV for tomorrow, but don't tell my neighbours I said so.
ReplyDeleteDarn, sorry to hear about your computer. Seems everyone of late is having troubles with thier tech.
ReplyDeleteGod bless partners who have usable PC's and / or are boffins when it comes to the interior workings of said machine. I totally rely on my partner for such services, amongst others, bless him!
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine life without computer problems, I would think I was in a heavenly library... I don't go a whole week without some glitch. Time for a new laptop, John?
ReplyDeleteThe day my computer dies that will be it for me.....time to move on to some other amusement. If you believe that I have swamp land in Florida I'm trying to get rid of.
ReplyDeleteLOVE Cria Cuervos, though haven't seen it for years.
ReplyDeleteWell if you are home by yourself, why not pretend to be one of them.
ReplyDeleteYes I am serious.
Who cares? If you have fun and it lifts your day, that is all that matters.
(Or, you could do it when Chris is there and drive him nuts. Bonus).
Hope you are up to date with your backups...
ReplyDeleteI've sat through a few decidedly dull films in my time that could have been perked up enormously by three jolly Spaniards....
ReplyDeleteGood idea meggs...
ReplyDelete...I can just see john mincing around the cottage with a bowl of fruit on his head (like Carmen Miranda)
'Dos cervesas por favor!'
I too hope you have back up discs...I've lost so many photos it's unbelievably sad...bits and pieces of my life down the techy toilet! You have my sympathy and empathy...thank goodness you have a computer to share, thank you Chris. I'd like to hear more about Bel-Ami speaking to Geraldine Chaplin too!
ReplyDeleteDon't exist, eh?
ReplyDelete"Farewell and adieu to you fair Spanish ladies, farewell and adieu to you ladies of Spain..."
ReplyDeleteWhat no Blue Wall of Death what is the computer world coming to?? So happy those Spanish matrons had a good time, weren't you tempted to ask them how they came to be in Wales? Where I live we woud have exchanged life stories and found we had second cousins in common after 5 mins.I was in hospital over the w/e and actually witnessed a fine example of this when two guys in diagonally opposite beds found within two minutes that one was neighbour to the other's wife's cousin!Typical SA!
ReplyDeleteI've never even heard of that film! Will have to see it now...
ReplyDeleteHope your computer is fixable and you will soon have it back. I am so lost when I don't have my computer or the internet service goes down. Thanks to Christ for sharing.
ReplyDeletelost you there tom?
ReplyDeleteYou have everything else so why not kep a Spaniard or two as well?
ReplyDeleteLOLOLOL Al!!
