Now answer me a question!

Can anyone clear up a question I have been thinking about for quite some time
Why do people read blogs less on a Saturday?
Strangely enough around 180-200 people ( god forbid) click on Going Gently per day to read about life here in the crawling lane of back country Trelawnyd.( I have to admit some 20 of these can be directed to the site if they  Google the subject of "Welsh celebrities")......however on a Saturday I am always lucky to get perhaps 130 "viewers"
Now this computer behaviour intrigues me just a little........so... can anyone explain why it occurs?
Are Saturdays set aside for other pursuits rather than the reading of the acerbic tales of Tom Stephenson, the joyful musings of Victoria and Jacqueline or Cro Magnon's French country stories?........
Could it be Chores? family? shopping? sex? gardening?  or real life that gets in the way? ...who knows?
But I would be interested to hear if anyone has an answer to this strange little phenomenon.

Anyhow back to the real world.
Nuala caught the afternoon train back to London leaving the cottage just a little quieter and less sparkling by her absence.
It feels as though we have talked constantly for 24 hours.
It was lovely to see her.

  4. Must be all the chores around the house! Saturday is laundry, cleaning, gardening and "fun" stuff around here! Sunday's we relax a little to be ready for the grind that starts on Monday!

  5. Well I can't speak for everyone but for me....Weekends in general can be hit or miss for me on the computer. Honeyman is home on the weekends and my attention is on him! :O). Ya even after 28 years I have it bad for the guy :O).

  6. Oh, now I have a mental picture of all the office workers round the country sitting at their desks, Monday to Friday, reading blogs instead of working! ;)

  7. Beats me.
My quietest day is usually a Sunday.

  8. Umm - think Jenny's hit the nail on the head. I certainly find solace here when my colleagues are discussing Eastenders as if it's real.

  9. I know, I know! people who work are much more 'organized' during the week and juggle everything they have to do. However on the weekends they don't HAVE to do anything if they don't want to....and this is where blogging doesn't come into the picture. Same here, Saturday and Sunday are 'slow' blogging days.

Would have loved to have been the proverbial 'fly on the wall' while Nuala was there!!!

  10. Probably the significant other demands some time....

Glad you had a great chat time with Nuala!

  11. I have just come back from a week away with no computer and I have to say it was bliss. I love my little virtual world, but it was great to have a break from it.
I am definitely going to try and make my weekends computer free.
(she says responding to you on a Sunday night!).

it is odd isn't it? I drop way down on Saturdays and then pick up on Sundays. Most of what I post on a Saturday goes unread. Why do I bother? I just can't help myself.

  13. In general, I have a load of stuff to do on Saturdays, be it chores or something far more exciting. If I switch the laptop on, nowt gets done. xxxx

  14. I feel a similar way about posts I've written...ones that I threw together and feel aren't worth a crap, 200 people will visit in a day. Ones I worked really hard on, and really put a lot of thought into, I'll get 120 visitors (or less). I don't get it. And it's kind of irritating LOL.

The Saturday thing, I've noticed that as well. The whole weekend really. I think people are just out doing other things. I try not to take it personally. ;)

  15. Oops - I thought it was the other way around! My weekends have become 'just me and my dog' times, so I guess I'm part of the minority that finds it fun to blog just when the majority is making whoopee...

  16. There is a parallel universe out there where people go to work Monday - Friday. They sit at desks or something(I have no idea). They goof around on the Internet all day and get paid twice as much as the real working stiffs. On Saturday, the last thing they want to do is turn the computer on.

  17. One of us is trying to add you to my blog list and it keeps freezing up on me - oh well, try again tomorrow! Love your photos - Hope you all had a great weekend!

  18. I have to think it`s because Saturday`s are busier than Sundays.

  19. There are a bunch of blogs that I follow on and off but there are a couple that I check every day, even Saturdays. Needless to say Going Gently is one of the "every day" ones. I need my fix of you and the animals/birds.
    Cheers Peter

  21. I had a really bad week last week, so yesterday I took not one but two naps and caught up on my blog reading...I guess I was the only one home--But my husband had my car so I didn't have a choice... :-)

  22. Hmm...well for one they probably slept in and had a late breakfast. Then headed out to feed chickens...water the gardens and pick weeds and then get back to painting. Well at least here on the farm! OH...and now we have two 3 week old kittens we rescued from the burn pile where their Mom had them hidden so the dogs wouldn't find them...only they did but I "headed them off at the pass" and they are now living in our house. It's like having BABIES all over again! Anyway...that's my explanation. Oh...and I'll have more requested photo's of our Yellow Cottage soon ;) Glad you had a good time with your friend. Have a great day.
    Maura :)

  23. Frankly I have no idea why I read your blog at all. 30 comments or more most days. 200 folks just doing a "look see" I feel totally inadequate and shattered as a blogger next to you and then you have the kahoona's to complain I don't visit you on Saturday as well. Jeez Louise, we say here in the Midwest

  24. Lots to do on Saturdays. It picks up on Sunday nights though ;-)

  25. For a start I'm lucky to have 10 visitors!

All the above combined, proves that during the working week people have nothing to do, then at the weekend they visit Toys-r-us, Asda, and McDonalds.

    Right, now where was I?

I've noticed that, too. I figured people did most of their computer time during the week when it was fired up for work anyway, then went on to everything else on weekends. Saturdays and Sundays are the slowest days of the weeks here. Interesting to know it's a universal trend! Dia

  27. donna...you daft bugger you!

cro...I doubt that very much 100 visitors more like

  28. I'm with the previous posters... people visit while they are supposed to be working. Glad the visit went well.

  29. I don't look at how many people visit my blog but am happy when people leave a comment which I always respond to. For me, I like to friendship of having people read me quite often, and try to stay away from the statistics because they could depress me they showed a dip in interest. This I learnt by doing just that! Glad the visit went well. The lady looks like a wonderful energy to have around.

  30. Well I feel sorry for you only getting 130 views on a Saturday; knock the 0 off for how many I get! But then I'm not a Welsh celebrity.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well, I don't keep track. And I don't care for that function; but my guess is it has something to do with the fact that it's the first day of the week (or last, depending on how you look at it) where the people who work normally get a day off to go and do whatever they want.
And all the stores and things are still open, unlike Sunday.

For instance, after a week of work, Saturday is when hubby likes to do stuff. Fishing, flea markets, visit the brother 3 hours away one way. It's and all day trip and blog reading does suffer.

Happy Monday to you all! :)

  32. I am one of those who sit in front of a screen all day for work. And yes, there are times where i take a break from my work and check your blog or other favourites. Don't see much difference between that and someone who leaves his desk to go out and smoke every hour on the hour.

I do try to have tech-free weekends and spend as much time outdoors or doing other things that i can.

  33. Sadly, it's not sex keeping me from blogging, but the kids. Who, speaking of, didn't come from me having sex anyway.

  34. I read at work during the week John and am too lazy to fire up the computer on the weekends. Not that I have much else to do... okay I do have MUCH else to do just don't do it. I suspect others are the same.
    Cheers on a Monday

  37. I didn't get time to read all the comments (it is Wednesday night and I am v busy after all) so forgive me if I repeat someone else's suggestion.
Work. People must read blogs at work, I reckon. My blog's stat counter comes up with the same result, consistantly.
